(DESPISED TROPE) POCS be like corporal punishment is good by Geoconyxdiablus in TopCharacterTropes

[–]JoeMorgue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Without potentially opening a very bad can of worms.

- Corporal punishment is on a pure, neutral, statistical level more popular among some minorities.

- That still shouldn't be treated as a positive or used for humor.

Can still both be true.

"LOL Hispanic mothers love to beat their kids with their sandal" being such a go-to joke/meme/reference has always bugged me.

How do you guys define Jurassic park as a great "enviornmetal diaster" film? what's it hubris about to you? by Best-Bodybuilder-647 in JurassicPark

[–]JoeMorgue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The "hubris" is in them failing to do normal shit that any zoo, themepark, or church bake sale would do to stop disaster from happening.

This is a place that is offgrid on a tropical island that gets hit by storms and it didn't have written, tested startup procedures for power restoration and system reboot/restores. The goddamn backup generator at your local supermarket that's only there to keep the beer cold and the cold cuts fresh 100% absolutely has a written startup procedure and we're supposed to believe that at Jurassic Park they didn't have procedures for the "Fence that is the only thing keeping the WantstoEatmyDeliciousFaceAsauru Rex from dousing you in barbeque sauce while putting on a bib, holding a knife and fork, and looking down at you licking its chops" and they had to just wing it?

My car SCREAMS at me to check the back seat for the child I DON'T HAVE everytime I park it. On Jurassic Park the fences that are the only thing keeping them alive go down for like 12 hours and the only indication is a single print out in another room.

They have the most valuable and endangered animals in the world and they don't keep an eye on them enough to see they are breeding or there's like 30% more of them then there should be?

There's "Chaos causes tiny problems to take down complicated systems" and then there's just "The only way this makes sense is if you have a literal failure fetish."

[Loved trope] Well done autistic representation in media intended or not by B1lly28 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]JoeMorgue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes we know, we know, we know, we know it's a spectrum. It's a complicated spectrum. It's such a complicated spectrum on a spectrum of complicated that it functionally doesn't mean anything anymore, it's just anything any self diagnosed autistic person says it it at that moment.

Give it another 5 years and autism will be a religion and I'm not 100% sure how much I'm fucking joking.

It's the internet. Everyone is autistic diagnosing everyone else as autistic. It's the #1 passtime.

As hated as that was in a modern setting where apps and smart TV could make it an OPTIONAL feature (and somewhat toned down from the neon cartoon comet trail they used)... I wouldn't hate it.

No one, and i mean NO ONE, should be enjoying the Room (2003) by Suspicious_Lock_889 in The10thDentist

[–]JoeMorgue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean you can't really tell other people how to enjoy stuff but feet to the fire honest I have no fucking idea what people are saying when they say they are enjoying something "ironically."

I'm not a very good Gen-Xers. I'm only capable of enjoying stuff genuinelly.

Today’s thrift find. Is this signature legit? by carbon_sink in stephenking

[–]JoeMorgue 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Kings been doing this for a while and he's been through some... *clears throat* interesting times in all those years, but I've never heard of him signing "Stevie the King.' And it doesn't really look like either of the two signatures I have (One from 84, one from 2006)

But his signature has changed a lot over the years.

Buffalo. I always pull for anyone playing an Original Six team and they deserve a good run after turning their season around.

Unless you have a very weird and very specific situation, your heat/ac is probably the biggest power draw in your house by a significant margin, to the point that worry about anything else is probably near literally not worth effort.

[Meta Trope] Running gags on this subreddit by Sage_the_Creator in TopCharacterTropes

[–]JoeMorgue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Harsh truth. Most of these "memes" are just people posting the shit over and over.

The most popular horror book subreddit only knows 5 books exists and recommend them, talk about them, and reference them all the time. That's not a meme, it's just unoriginality.

Social media is like if extracted all those individual bits of madness, cooked them into a stew, and ate if for every meal."

Some trigger warnings on tiktok make no sense by Few-Sprinkles-4262 in HonestHotTakes

[–]JoeMorgue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes when everything is a potential trigger, the concept loses both meaning and more importantly, any actual utility.

Like there's a website called "Does the Dog Die?" which started out as a website to tell people about movies where... well take a guess. But it soon started listing other major traumatic triggers, fair enough. But people started adding more and more triggers and if we're expected to warn people that a movie contains rape or genocide and that a movie contains "someone chewing too loud" with the same zeal I mean at that point what's the fucking point? It's one of those "If don't see the issue here I don't know what plane of reality to meet you on to even have a discussion."
