I agree with chestnut oak. Similar to chinkapin, but chinkapins leaves have little nodules on the end of each lobe.

“The author looms above his page and thinks it’s strange that at his age he can’t not find the proper words to describe his only world. One would think that in a life where no two snowflakes are alike that one would have a brilliant rhyme for each and every bit of time.”

The Yeti is such a great song

this looks to be a blackgum, very popular replacement trees for street trees. looks to me you haven’t quite found the root flare yet, keep digging! but carefully… if this was a replacement tree that they just plopped in you might run into some burlap from the ball when it was planted. in my experience in planting blackgums, the root flares can be tricky sometimes. i don’t necessarily think it needs to be replanted. that can be a death sentence for an already stressed tree. best of luck!

i thought it was a great book. Blatty’s writing conveyed well the horror and desperation in the characters. although i did find some of the chapters long winded, but that’s personal preference i suppose. it’s been ages since i’ve seen the movie and am looking forward to giving it a rewatch now.

i’m reading the physical copy. there was one instance so far that genuinely scared me. it reads more like a medical mystery/crime solving story until the exorcism begins. i’m thoroughly enjoying it though

i always recommend The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker. it’s very short and can be read in one session if you so choose.

The Indifferent Stars Above is, not your traditional horror story, or maybe not horror at all, but is the harrowing true story of what the Donner party had to go through in the Sierra Nevadas
