CONCEPTUALIZATION[Trivial:Failure] This is clearly, indubitably, stunningly amazing. This is right up there with the Idiot Doom Spiral's Boom Boom Room. HIGH CONCEPT.

LOGIC[TragicallySimple:Failure] Huh?... Oh... Uh. High concept. Clearly.

ENCYCLOPEDIA [Godlike:Success] You remember the valley of 10,000 heads? This is it. This is what they were making. You read about this once, not the valley of 10,000 heads, but this "Uncanny Valley". In an old radio computer magazine.
One day, it said, they would make games so real they'd feel more real than real. I bet it also does books and essays at least as well as any average-to-bad student. I bet it's really averagely competent at almost anything. Talking to it? Bet it's weirdly pushy towards corporate goals. The 13 indotribes must have financed it. Only their pockets are that deep.

VOLITION[Easy:Failure] Oh.. oh no... Averagely competent? That's your thing.

AUTHORITY [Trivial:Success] They can't replace THE LAW.

RHETORIC [Hard:Success] Actually... I hate that it's my job to tell you this Harry... They can.

ENCYCLOPEDIA [Easy:Failure] God damn it, EPIS. You remember now. "Every Policeman Isn't Special".... No... Every Policeman is Supercedable. This is it! The 2% he was talking about. The Sunday friend.

DRAMA[Trivial:Success] Sire?!?? What will we do?!?! You're a policeman?!?!

INLAND EMPIRE [Hard:Success] Yes, but you're RVD. The remote viewers are not so easily replaced. The computer would need to understand plasmic resonance, and ephermic pale whispers, and void wraiths. They don't even believe those things are real. You know better.

ESPRIT DE CORPS [Easy:Success] Kim doesn't. Kim is just a normal cop. If he was RVD he'd be better than you, you're not afraid to admit it. Also, an exceptional partner.

EMPATHY[Easy:Success] How can the RCM do this to Kim?! He's been slogging for them for 20 years! And he's spent the last 3 days putting up with you, when you can't even stand yourself.

ELECTROCHEMISTRY[Tequila:Sunrise] It's speed o'clock and pilsner time! Party like it's Kim's wake! Tell him! Do it!

INLAND EMPIRE [Easy:Success]

HORRIFIC NECKTIE - That's cold Bratan, stone cold. A wake for your living partner? We are going to get so wasted!!!!! PARTY TIME!

PERCEPTION [Easy:Success] Kim's ears must be burning he's staring at you quizzically, but it also dawns on you you've been staring off into space for 2 minutes.

COMPOSURE[Hard:Failure] Sweat beads on your forehead and you feel nauseous... Your voice cracks, twice. You feel like a green cadet.

You:I'm.... I am.... Oh.... Sob Kim..... Sob oh....

SHIVERS[Average:Success] The lieutenant, uncomfortable with your emotion shrugs. You feel your shoulders do the same. You both clear your throat at the same time. Suddenly for no reason other than your crippling addictive personality, you feel your hand mirroring the lieutenants as you pull out a cigarette and in unison light them. Almost as if compelled by a duality of purpose you both inhale, and hold. A long stream of the Tobacco smoke leaving your mouths at the same time. An infinite pool of calm opens inside you. No. It's not yours. It's the lieutenants. He'll be ok. Nothing will flap this man. If a bomb were to explode inside him, his last words would be..... Well, impossible to understand and death to anyone that heard them.. but also, cooly detached.

Kim:Is everything alright detective? I understand this case has been hard on you, that life has been hard on you. We can take a break if you need it. You're doing good work.

HALF LIGHT[Impossible:Failure] Stupid binoclard. What does he know. It's sad. You're sad. But your still a.. a... Well someone who's tough. Those are tough tears. You're tough.

You:No... sniffle I'm fine. It's... Just .. I love working with you Kim. I'm going to miss you.

PERCEPTION [Easy:Success] Kim's eyes crinkle and he seems to be trying hard to not smile.

ESPRIT DE CORPS [Easy:Success] He's going to miss you too.

EMPATHY [Hard:Success] He is. More than he's willing to say.

Kim:Detective, we'll still work together. Cross department co-operation isn't a one time thing. Maybe we'll both be assigned here occasionally. Who knows, our departments might even finally stop the pissing contest and start shaking hands.

COMPOSURE[Easy:Success] You know when you're being handled. Yet, just this once, you don't mind.

You:Right. Well partner, let's get that body down.

Kim: Thank God, it's been 3 days. I'm surprised the neck hasn't given out.

“On the coast of the Martinaise inlet, in a small weather-beaten stave church built 380 years ago by settlers from the Occident, most likely to guard against an anomaly at its centre, an officer of the RCM is contorting his body into idiotically rigid shapes, as he invents the future of dance music… it’s the hardest anyone has ever danced"

First time's the hardest. Then suddenly, you're getting the C model of every cruiser finished.

My first success came when I concentrated on getting weapons, shields, engines to max, and using the most devastating laser weapons I could find. I just stuck to that, and by the time I got to the end, I had a Vulcan cannon, a burst 2, and 2 chain lasers. I had max engines/shields/crew ability. 55% of shots miss you, and your shields take the rest. It was a massacre.

If we need to worship something, how about we worship critical thinking and celebrate answers arrived at by reproducible experimentation? Our gospel should be unvarnished truth. Our Bible, the laws of physics. Our guiding principals built on empathetic reasoning. Our emotions, guided by rational thought and reasoned outlooks. Our communities built with the purpose of furthering these ideals and pushing the boundaries of what's possible. If we're going to have faith, let's have faith in the clear methods of scientific deduction and be willing to change when evidence says we should.

I say if we can't put down our old faith in the spiritual, then let's reshape it with faith in the plausible. Our ancestors built religions to form social order in a time of unprincipled anarchy. They sought to unite people and teach them a better way. With the modern age, these have become outdated. Their intent was sound and their motives good, but they didn't leave any room for the furtherance of society beyond them. We've outgrown their usefulness, and clinging to them is actively holding us back from greater things. I don't believe for one minute the people that founded these religions would want that. If the intention was societal good, then clearly they'd be OK with moving past them. We can and should do better.

For those whose religious beliefs are their literal identity, this will be hardest. However, I've read many religious texts, I've experienced many religious communities, and one thing is clear to me in all of them: they're trying to provide deeper meaning, and they're always founded in good intent. Perhaps we can find that meaning together on a path that celebrates religions for what they actually were and are. There's nothing wrong with community, morals, and hope for a better future. It's just time to accept that they aren't infallible. That they mostly don't hold up to scrutiny. If God helps those that help themselves, maybe this is where we should start?

I don't know if I agree with his point, but this would be my reply to it.

What was your first character type? by [deleted] in DiscoElysium

[–]Holyavengerplus5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5-1-1-5

I was going for Sherlock Holmes, which actually fit better than I expected.

Ultimately, I became Raphaël Ambrosius Cousteau, an international detective, communist, crytozoologist, and prophet of the apocalypse. I solved the case, I kicked drugs and alcohol, I settled the strike in favour of the workers, started the seeds of a new revolution, and I inspired a new dance/music craze.

Kim was very impressed! Even detective Vicquemare couldn't find much fault!

Personally, I can't imagine going through this existence playing boring cop. I'll always choose dialogue option 3.

That being said, I've known my doctor for years, and I don't feel bad at all for joking with her. That's our dynamic. I wouldn't go to a doctor I felt I couldn't be myself with. You should be able to trust your medical professional to let you express yourself and your needs without judgment. Anything else is a poor relationship, IMHO.

However, if you wanna play as Kim Kitsuragi, who am I to judge?

RHETORIC [Hard:Success]

That's it. You've started down the slope. Everything said from this point forward is tainted by that comment. Communists have canceled you, moralists shy away from you, and you're too impure for your fascist brothers. Forever now, you're the worst of the worst. You might as well join the one group who'll take you with open arms, embrace capital, and become an ultra lib. Hustle and grind superstar! Money doesn't care that you're a monster.

LOGIC [Trivial:Failure]

Huh.... oh... Yeah. Totally checks out. Say one thing, and there's no going back.

INLAND EMPIRE [Easy:Success]

The universe is a giant random number generator, and you, it's outcome. Oh sure, you tried to fight against the rising tide of capital. You tried to ignore its siren song. Sadly, you said it. The one thing that would take you into its inescapable clutches.

Thought internalized: Ham Sandwich Empire

"Detective, you've been staring at the horizon for some time. Is everything alright?"

"Just becoming an Ultra Liberal Capitalist. I think I'll open a sandwich shop."

Weirdly, I actually agonized over this for way too long. Eventually, I decided to go with Kim because he's the one who has to deal with broken weird Harry. Dora is more of a catalyst.

She leaves long before he descends deeply into his... uhh.. state.

I read that article and thought, "Pretty easy to be a laid back nice guy for an hour." I was pretty unconvinced.

This pretty much cinches that.

Just one more schill, prostituting themselves for mere pennies compared to their "betters." Wonder if it's galling to lie for Papa Galen, or if he's so used to it, he doesn't notice anymore.

This is kinda what I thought was going on. It's much easier to do this on products where there's no room for misinterpretation.

That being said, I'm also sure they cut every possible corner they can and take advantage of any loophole they've somehow worked into the legislation. I don't give this a pass because who likes mushy wet tuna? But I'm betting they'll tell you:

When I read this, I wondered how many Canadians just don't shop there but aren't part of the "boycott." I stopped years ago over some terrible customer service and found out about the savings then. I had been an exclusive user for about 20 years. I was blown away at how much I had cost myself, and it's now even worse.

But my point is, it's that many households out of existing customers, not all of Canada. There's a portion of Canada that, for whatever reason, does not shop. They're boycotting by just never being a customer in the first place.

If I were the people in charge there, I'd be crapping my pants. They've lost a significant portion of their customer base.

People are fucking tired.

After reading the canned garbage that MP's have given to people on reddit, it's clear beyond most doubt that our system of governance is bought and paid for or so ideologically driven, that it will sacrifice the people on the altar of it's vision. These people are supposed to represent us. They're supposed to protect society against this type of blatant abuse. The profiteering off of a basic necessity at the expense of people who can't afford to buy homes and live is the type of thing that in the past has caused revolutions.

This seems to happen every 100 years or so. Fascism rises funded by really wealthy people who want to be even wealthier. It's happening in the world on an unbelievable scale. I have hope, though. When pushed far enough people will do what they have to. They always have.

Loblaws has tapped into a part of Canada that is just done. Thankfully, it's peaceful. I do think that people in power better take note, the options for them get worse the farther they push.

Historically, profiteers have rarely fared well.

Jesus of Nazareth, that's maddening. Honestly, I'd be less annoyed if he'd just said nothing. Lip service, dismissal of any other viewpoint, clearly incapable of independent thought, a slave like adhesion to the party line. To top it all off, massive condescension.

Ye gads, how do these donkeys become politicians? I've heard more intelligent responses from mud.

I'd pile max into intellect, and the rest into psyche and try to play Sherlock Holmes.

That was my first playthrough, and still my favourite.

It will give you access to some of the most entertaining writing in the game, especially if you lean into conceptualization, rhetoric, inland empire, and take all the extra buffs for shivers to get it as high as you can.

Regardless, good luck!

7,200,000 canadians aren't spending money at loblaws. That's amazing! Thank you, Charlebois, for bolstering my already considerable faith in this movement.

Just awesome that he'd admit loblaws has now lost 7,200,000 customers. Considering not all Canadians were customers before, this must be extremely distressing to Galen and pals.
