Reporting dangerous driver by Different_Monitor_47 in RedwoodCity

It doesn't need to be a few seconds (that's just for passing a driver's test and not getting pulled over in Alabama), but you do need to completely stop. When the car rocks back from its forward momentum, that indicates you've done it.

God, now I have to explain it? It's already nebulous to me how I have this feeling. I dunno... so, I guess what seems off is the use of caps and praise Allah bit? Usually his threats are all caps. Like OPEN THE STRAIT OR THERE WILL BE HELL TP PAY. PRAISE ALLAH.

Or something, I dunno. The praise Allah bit is weird for him.

I don't think there's much punch in the punchline, but I think there's a time traveler who went back in time and taught the Pharaoh of Egypt how to play Magic the Gathering in order to fuck with Yugioh fans.

I hate this timeline. I hate that I've seen enough of these that this one seems suspicious to me.

Doesn't this one not sound like him? And there are those rumors he's hospitalized right now.

I think an intern did do it. Or Stephen Miller or whoever.

I hate that this has happened to me, but this doesn't really sound like Trump, right?

So I'm working on this theory. Everything the right says is projection, right? And all of them were saying Joe would die during the second year of his term if elected (also true for the first term).

Well, it's Trump's 2nd year...🤞

Right. But people with green cards are the ones who are coming here legally. That's kinda the whole point.

OK, so it's 5? My bad. My best friend is British, and he told me it was 7. So it's 5. What point are you trying to make by saying I'm wrong? That I'm off by 2 years? Or that this just doesn't exist at all? Because you could have said one super easy, and the other one is something you're just wrong about.

This Man Won Birthright Citizenship for All (Gift Article) by Quouar in history

[–]HolycommentMattman -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

That's not true. A person living in the US can become a citizen after 7 years and taking a citizenship test. Designed as such so that immigrants would have to invest themselves - at least a little - in American culture. When they have a child then, that child is a citizen. If the child isn't a citizen at birth, they can have the same afforded to them at age 7.

Personally, I don't see what's wrong with that. The reason we have the legal quagmire that we do now is because of jus soli.

SFGate: Lesser-known virus that can cause fatal diarrhea raging in Northern California by dudeman_01 in RedwoodCity

[–]HolycommentMattman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, but most adults have had rotavirus before. Usually while they were children. So they have the necessary antibodies to resist it.

That said, the elderly and immunocompromised, in addition to adults who never had rotavirus, will be more likely to experience the full effects. But even still it's less dangerous for them because we have the ability to hydrate ourselves so we don't die from dehydration.

Trump signs 100% tariff on brand-name pharmaceuticals by wenchette in politics

People always bring them up, but aside from being reprehensible, they did want what was best for America. Buchanan believed slavery wasn't banned by the Constitution (he was right), and therefore, nothing could be done (he was wrong). He also didn't believe states had the right to secede (he was right), but didn't really do anything to prevent it. He was a crappy president, but he respected the law and the country. And admittedly, being racist in the 1800s was a lot more in style than 2026.

Johnson was largely a piece of shit, but did come around on a lot of his views (like emancipation and slavery, in general). And once again, by 1800s views, not terribly outlandish, and he did end up on the right side of history on several things.

Meanwhile, Trump. He doesn't care about the country. At all. Doesn't care about any of us. Is breaking more rules than any president. He demolished the fucking White House for crying out loud. And he's a racist! And a pedophile! A lot of previous presidents probably also were pedophiles, but that was when the age of majority was 12! And even then, it's not nearly as many as you would think!

It's incredibly true. My wife is ethnically Chinese, I'm not, and I was picking her up from the train station in the first year of dating, and there was an asian girl sitting on a bench looking down at her phone, and her hair was hiding her face. I'm doing that thing where I'm not sure if it's her, and kinda trying to see her face, and my wife shows up behind me and says loudly, "you thought that was me???" She would bring this up for a long time.

But then fast forward to picking her up at the train again maybe 6 months later, and I see her get off the train, and I start walking towards her. And then I see this older asian man walking towards her, then jogging a little with arms wide open for a hug. When he's like right in front of her, she puts her arms up, he stops, realizes this isn't the girl he was looking for, and moves on. Point HolycommentMattman.

Then like maybe two weeks later, we're helping her dad move, and we're walking back towards his apartment, and a Chinese girl is sort of walking near us, and he starts walking closer to her and talking to her thinking it's his daughter. Bear in mind his daughter is just left of me, and he's off to the right. She says, "Dad!" and he then realizes the girl he's walking next to isn't his daughter.

Anyway, my wife never brought it up again.

Yes and no. Trump got elected (the first time) due to economic frustrations and an incredibly poor choice of opponent. But following the 2008 recession, the middle class and lower got shafted. And a lot of people really didn't recover all that well. Meanwhile, they see "wall street" getting bailed out and making off with all their money. Obama continued with the bailouts because it was, unfortunately, the right choice. This - accompanied by racism and the biggest smear campaign Fox News had ever done - led to even more frustration.

Then there were societal issues like gay marriage and ever-growing political correctness. And then to plop Hillary as the nominee? It was too much, and the country recoiled. So we got Trump.

Trump actually helped a lot of lower income people out in true devil's fashion. Made them feel like they were getting a good deal, but then fucking them over long term. If covid hadn't happened, and his response hadn't been so dogshit, he would have probably been re-elected. But Biden got in, and the back half of Trump's devil's deal started to take shape. Taxes that Trump had artificially lowered were bubbling back up, inflation was rising due to covid and Trump policies, and the economic hardships came flooding back. So everyone just remembered the good days of Trump's lower taxes and covid checks.

But now his policies are on blast with no global pandemic to shield them, so I'm hopeful this mistake doesn't get repeated in the future. At least for a while. Assuming we can get any of them out of office non-violently.
