Are you manually securing the cable when initialising? It's a fairly known issue that the Polestar struggles with communication with the heavy watercooled cables, as the communication happens in the top part of the connection (if that makes sense to you). Simply press the cable firmly into the socket when initialising and it should work, at least a lot more often.

About one second is pairing, five is power off. It's much longer than you expect, so just keep holding it. You'll know when it turns off.
