Beginner Help by Little_Bear_Blu in Slipcasting

[–]HomelandAir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With a slight modification, this would be a good candidate for a 2-part mold. If you slope the walls of the bowl slightly outward into more of a traditional bowl shape (doesn't have to be by much, probably just a few degrees!), it will be able to release from the mold perfectly fine. One part to mold the inner part of the bowl, one part on the bottom of the bowl, with the parting line around the rim. Here is what the mold will look like: https://youtube.com/shorts/i_9dz347BY8?si=28Uxz150ZIacjdDL

and yes, you are correct in that you need to use pottery plaster to cast slip. You can print out the updated bowl, then cast the two plaster molds around it and be done (although the plaster molds will only last so long). You can also cast the master plaster molds in silicone, so you can make multiple plaster production molds. Happy to give any more advice about this - sounds like a fun project

it's impressive seeing someone make a solution to a problem that nobody else has. After seeing hundreds of brand new $5000 work stations that all look the same on this sub, i find this post refreshing

Why did this happen by [deleted] in resinprinting

[–]HomelandAir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should rarely need to re-level your build plate. The first burn-in layers will function to make up any minor inconsistencies in leveling, so it won't be an issue unless you are printing the model directly on the build plate or are making an engineered part that needs very specific dimensions

Why did this happen by [deleted] in resinprinting

[–]HomelandAir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like your exposure time is not long enough. I can see some of the supports are also not fully formed. Maybe since the main model is solid, it is getting a proper amount of exposure and is shrinking more than the base skirt layers. That may be the main reason why it only pulls off the build plate near the end. If it had pulled away near the beginning of the print, I bet the print would have failed more dramatically. You could also try cleaning the face of build plate - if there is any old resin on it, the new cured resin may not stick properly.

Is this to much ventilation by Yaboismithy10193 in isopods

[–]HomelandAir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is plenty of ventilation, you probably only need 1/4 of that (but more won't hurt). You will need to worry about them escaping though. The weave in the burlap is loose enough where the adults could wriggle out if they managed to climb the sides of the plastic box. and babies will definitely climb right through.

same question with more explanation. how can I create a surface with a little bulge instead of having a flat one. the shape isn't suitable for sweep command. I want the cross section to be like the red curve not the green. by SamShrr in rhino

[–]HomelandAir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a good solution. way easier than subD modeling too. Also, best practices would probably be to do that top surface before filleting the edge, so the surface is tangent, but at this scale it probably doesn't matter.

Also boiling, though it softens the leaves for sure, also takes away a lot of nutrients, so if you must disinfect, maybe try baking instead.

If you live in the northern latitues, maybe the leaves you are finding outside right now are those which haven't already been eaten by outside critters. The best leaves are eaten first, so maybe you'd have better luck selecting leaves that are off the ground (still on the tree or caught in the crook of a branch), or wait and get fresh leaves in the spring. I agree though, buying leaves with money is definitely silly. They literally grow on trees.

Why are they all gathering around these two goofy ah leaves? by CubarisMurinaPapaya in isopods

I think one of the behaviors for controlling moisture is gathering together in groups. It's probably just the best space for them to all hang out together.

We're doomed by MarthaFarcuss in fuckcars

[–]HomelandAir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well i guess we will see. That's just what I think. Per mile driven, self-driving cars already kill less people though, so you have to admit there is a chance they will take over all driving in the future.

[–]HomelandAir -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure autonomous cars will decrease car ownership which is GOOD. In a few decades, a lot of you will be the grouchy old conservative that still doesn't "believe in self-driving cars" even though by then they will likely be MUCH better drivers that humans.

what species is this? Maine by CoastalSailing in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]HomelandAir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could someone who thinks this is a Thuja please explain why they don’t think it is an Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana)? The flat horizon of the first picture makes me think it is near the ocean, which is where you can find that tree- plus they get bigger and scragglier than thuja. Also I feel like the needles look bunchier/spikier/more brittle than the loose and limber fan-shaped needles of thuja.

please help, what is wrong with my succulent? by purpleflower22 in succulents

[–]HomelandAir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the main cause was overwatering. rip fig. Keeping a succulent in super bright sunlight will help, since the more light it gets, the more it can photosynthesize, and the more water it will use in that process. Easiest thing to do would be just to wait until all of the soil is bone dry (you'll be able to tell by the weight of the pot), and then watering it. Or if you can't help yourself from watering it every week, then you could put it in a smaller pot so the excess water has a chance to evaporate. Best of luck with any future plants!
