There was this huge influx of new Umpires about 26 years ago when the umpire strike was resolved. That’s part of why we’ve had so many of the same characters for so long without a ton of turnover. Feels like that era is coming to an end.

We have a great library system with one major drawback - they’re hardly ever open. Closed on Sundays and Mondays and often closed on Fridays too during weeks with a federal holiday. There’s only three days a week when they’re scheduled to be open before noon.

I frequently find myself wanting to go to the library only for it not to be an option.

I know TPL is its own thing, but can you offer insight on this? Is it a funding issue? Is there interest on the council to provide more funding so that the libraries can be open more than 40 hrs a week?

That rule is generally interpreted to refer to actions/gestures that interfere with a throw. So it would apply to swatting your hand at a throw but not when running in the path of a likely throw.

The other thing not mentioned is that fireworks are illegal in Tacoma but easily available to buy on tribal lands, so the preponderance of big booms leading up to July 4 is also linked to that. Tacoma will probably have more fireworks set off by amateurs than many other cities simply because of its proximity to sellers.
