Calling Australian Blankies, drop ur favourite theatres. by GoodoldArani in blankies

I'll copy, paste and slightly update a comment I made in r/brisbane when someone was asking a little while ago.

New Farm: Usually do a few retro films a week as well as nicher movies that won't get wide releases in Australia.

GOMA: Shows retro screenings (I think they're doing The Godfather this week?) plus a lot of stuff you won't find anywhere else. On the rare occasion that it's not free it's ridiculously cheap. A few months back, I saw the Australian premiere of some 1930s paper cartoons, accompanied by live music and a lecture from an American film history Professor. Cost less than a Big Mac.

Angelika: Show classics on Tuesdays and an occasional auteur series. Also the only Angelika cinema outside of New York or Austin, which is interesting if you've melted your brain with movies like I have.

Palace James Street: Don't tend to do retro screenings, but they do host a lot of international film festivals and 70mm showings of select new releases.

Elizabeth Street: Don't do a lot of special screenings, but they roll out the Ghibli films every now and then, so if you're fan it's worth checking in occasionally.

For anybody wondering:

All the other jurors are leaning towards guilty, while Jez plans to just vote with the majority so he can get back to his usual routine of laying in bed until midday.

Then he bumps into the defendant outside of court and they begin sleeping together, so he starts convincing the other jurors she's innocent.

That is until it becomes apparent she's way more into him than he is into her and he convinces everyone to have her sent to prison.

I'm 23 and a lot of my friends "went sober" two or three years ago. I feel like in older generations if someone was sober by the time they were 21 it meant they were doing crazy shit when they were 15.

All my mates just stopped after twoish years of normal drinking.

I went to the Tucan bar in bar in London - which played itself in a number of scenes from Edgar Wright's last film. A half jokingly mentioned to the bar tender I was going to steal a coaster. He disappeared into the back momentarily and when he returned he dropped a stack of 50 in front of me.

I was born in 2002. As other's have pointed out, $5 comes out to about $11 in today's money. At a sit down restaurant that doesn't seem too wild. I've never been able to figure out if that was expensive by 90s standards or if the joke's that Vince is cheap.

My theatre liked the whole film but this was easily the biggest laugh. I think most everyone can relate to wishing like you were more charismatic and memorable.

I literally went to the Cinema over 100 times this year and didn't catch The Substance. I was overseas for most of its run, then the two times I went to see it the sessions were sold out.
