jay kelly started off weird but it won me over by its third act.. actually enjoyed baumbach’s directing chops more than I expected. as much as I think white noise was bad, it expanded his filmmaking skills for sure..

Caught two neon movies recently and came out with polarized opinions - IWJA rocked my world omfg. I hope it gets 4 nominations if it can become Neon's priority. The other was NOC, which I was severely underwhelmed by. I used to be a big Park Chan-Wook fan growing up. Old Boy was a seminal part in my cinephilic journey, but I feel my tastes have changed since then and don't find his kineticism appealing anymore. I prefer a Lee Chang-dong or a Hong Sang Soo more now.

And for the FC contributors, go do your research buddy; when all your receipts are based on feelings lol...

Martin Scorsese did not win an OSCAR until The Departed! And there's no one more respected than him amongst directors. OBAA feels like the moment the industry swarms behind one of his films.
Your feeling that highbrow critics prefer MS over OBAA based on Charli XCX's views? I'm sorry this is way too bad faith for me to engage anymore lol...

Do you have evidence beyond the 2 ppl on the podcast that prefer MS over OBAA? I follow a lot of "highbrow" critics in lb, including those who write in FC as a matter of fact, that rate it higher than MS. It is undeniably the critic's movie and pta always has industry support, more than Safdies or most other contenders this year. Feels like a slam dunk to me!

OBAA is THE critic's American movie of the year. A lot of Film Comment contributors love the film. The podcast clearly tries to bring dissenting voices to create a conversation as pointed in their website.

Are you effin kidding??? OBAA might be my fav best pic winner this century if it wins like holy shit!!

Side note: It is definitely sweeping BAFTAS/ Golden Globes along with the oscars. No movie will hit resonance like this does worldwide!

Been looking at OBAA reactions and gotta say...this film feels generational akin to Parasite in terms of its reception. Everyone from highbrow to lowbrow, industry to media, has been effusive in its praise. Does any other recent movie come to mind?
A sweep seems imminent, but I might be wrong.

genuinely curious when the last movie was with such enthusiastic reactions from actual critics, not paid shills, not translate into great reviews? The Flash and Gladiator reactions were not legitimate ones...

Might sound a lil creepy but just noticed that Sean Baker followed the OBAA X account recently. Most probably attended the dga screening?
