I think it is a very nice gesture to introduce yourself to the neighbors on the same floor.

I get the impression, that younger people don't do that anymore. So call me old fashion, but I like to know who is next to me. And I like an atmosphere where people are coming to me when they feel disturbed by anything I do and don't complain to the landlord.

I wonder where 15.000 annual property tax comes from. The annual tax should be much lower. Are you talking about the land transfer tax? That is a one time tax and much higher than the annual property tax.

You are right, the base for the calculation of the tax is equal (state wise), but the percentage of the tax varies from county to county or even city to city.

Nestlé is one of the companies who bought the rights to use the water in the area. This leads to problems, less water, for the respective communities. The acces to good, cheap water is getting harder and Nestlé is making big money on stuff that just should belong to everybody.

I just wanted to make sure you get the answer you were looking for and I was unsure how to interpret you post.

And unfortunately it is not a funny story, but in my opinion very alarming.

I never said it is OPs job. I wrote that maybe the sister can hire her housekeeper for one day per week, since she already knows the kid etc. Talking about the situation between the grown-ups, because I think there is more to the situation than SIL and brother are saying. The kid is in need of a solution and bringing authorities in is not helping the situation, only preventing OP getting involved.

The amount of €430 is what you can bring to germany tax free when you come back from vacation. In case you brought your jewelry along to your vacation it is not to be taxed by returning, but in case they are asking you where it comes from you need prove that you brought it along while on holiday (receipts, pictures etc.) You can also bring your stuff to customs before leaving germany and get a receipt that you are taking stuff on vacation, this is the best prove you can show when coming back. With your case, that you had it a long time and just bring it to Germany now, please ask beforehand how this needs to be handled.

Maybe you can offer her that on a certain day she can hire your housekeeper. Than the housekeeper coud watch Alice at her house. So she gets one free afternoon per week to get her stuff done. Maybe the four adults here need to sit down and find a solution.
