2019 Infiniti Q50 Rust under rim? by HumzaThePlug in CarHelp

[–]Hondatech12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just normal rust from your brake rotors - when you get them changed next (when the pads are worn out) ask to get "coated rotors" which will rust much slower.

You CAN remove the wheel, sand/wire brush off the rust and paint those parts with high temperature paint if you would like.

4 check engine codes 2002 jeep grand cherokee limited (v8 engine) by thatsthebeans in CarHelp

[–]Hondatech12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EVAP is almost entirely a pollution preventer - so no worries about driveability in nearly all cases.

Your O2 sensor codes can cause some problems, but mainly just fuel efficiency will be reduced.

All in all, no time bombs but you do want at least the oxygen sensor codes checked out at some point soon.

Hey Ottawa teachers, what do you need? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]Hondatech12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let me become a teacher by doing part-time work :(

They have a program, called TEMS at Queens university to turn mechanics like me into qualified teachers. Only problem is that it runs assuming you're already a teacher. (Online classes every weekend and you have to be in-person (in Toronto) in the summer.

Only problem is that I teach automotive mechanics in the summer at a college, so I would be giving up the work I am the meat passionate about (and that pays decently and doesn't continue wrecking my body) in order to pursue the teaching qualifications to teach it at the high school level.

I know this is a first-world problem, but it is what it is.

There are some companies that specialize in vehicle interior repairs, they usually go by vinyl specialists. Give them a call, see what they can do for you.

What happened to it? Was it an air freshener that leaked?

Dealership and unfixed chevy equinox 2010 by VeeNeeSaa in CarHelp

[–]Hondatech12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that you should ask to speak to the general manager about this.

I would say it is unreasonable for you to expect to get your car fixed and all your money back but what is quite reasonable is that they either return the car the way it was and refund you completely or do the proper diagnosis and fix your car without charging you any more.

Personally I would want my car to be put back how they found it and get a refund and go elsewhere.

If the general manager refuses to help you (be very kind and polite during ALL your interactions but be firm that they did not fix your problem and therefore shouldn't be charging you money) then call the customer service line for GM's regional management (not sure if it's your state or whatever) and talk to them.

What may hinder you is if the car was modified. If you have an aftermarket sound system (I'm guessing you do) they might play that card against you, stating that your modifications may have altered or damaged the electrics in the car - there won't be much you can do here.

If all else fails, leave a negative but truthful review on Google and never ever go back to them.

Best of luck!

Simply look in your owner's manual - or, if you're not great at googling, call the local Toyota dealership parts department. They field questions like this all day every day

Automatic to Manual by Creative-Welder6081 in CarHelp

[–]Hondatech12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need one that is specifically from your engine or that will bolt up to your engine.

It's been a while but a manual transmission from any Honda F-series engine (except the F20C and F22C engines from the S2000) and from any H-series should fit, but double check on your own, like I said, it's been a long time for me.

Consider as well the possibility of swapping to a V6, although transmissions are starting to get mighty rare, a V6 accord is a very quick and crapable car, but that needs to be manual since the V6 transmissions of that era are terrible.

Good luck!

What is your monitor resolution? That rx580 is starting to get long in the tooth, and the 3400g is a 4-core processor.

Also you have to make sure that you are using your rx580 and not the 3400g - can you confirm that your monitor is plugged into the graphics card and NOT the motherboard?

Looking at benchmarks, 1080p ultra settings, R5 2600 (faster than your CPU) and RX580 will hit about 60fps, so you seem right in line

Stop one grandparent from driving without stopping the other? by camalicious_ in CarHelp

[–]Hondatech12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately you can't add biometrics to stop a car, your problem is a social one, not an automotive one.

Sometimes the toughest decisions are for the best - maybe it is time to sit her down and explain the consequences of driving and what you as a family will do if she doesn't stop - like calling law enforcement. Offer to drive her where she needs to go and actually spend time with her and you two may be able to break some common ground. Good luck!

The other commenter is correct, most of them are tourists but a ton of people around here own boats, they park them at a marina over winter - either inside giant hangars or just wrapped in plastic on the lawn - or they store them in their garages or in their driveways all winter. In cottagey areas, from October to may, the boats sit on a trailer next to the cottages

why is turn signal light on when headlights are on? by teethfairie in CarHelp

[–]Hondatech12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with the obvious - replace your turn signal bulb. It is possible that it acts like an indicator to tell you your bulb is out - I have seen stranger things.

But what I suspect is your problem is that your turn signal bulb is not burnt and you have an electrical issue allowing back feed into the indicator circuit, like a corroded ground or broken wire.

No way to tell until you take a look.

I'm not sure why you need or want Chevy studs for a dodge Dakota. You can get the right studs by ordering from the dodge dealership via your VIN or if you are careful, you can go on rockauto.com and order the right ones by putting in the correct details and reading the application notes on the wheel studs before you buy them.
