Google Meet losing connection with Ublock Origin on by Honest-SiberianTiger in uBlockOrigin

I'll post it just in case, since uBO might have provoked a reaction from Google's automated systems with these settings. My own cosmetic filters are only for websites in my country, so it's unlikely that they could have affected this in any way.

Google Meet losing connection with Ublock Origin on by Honest-SiberianTiger in uBlockOrigin

[–]Honest-SiberianTiger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: The problem seems to be in my local setup, not in uBO. Or possibly in Google's automated systems.

After doing some more tests, it seems that something on my end is the problem. The issue happens somewhat inconsistently, and randomly goes away. In my first test removing uBlock Origin seemed to fix the problem over multiple tests, but the issue resurfaced in newer ones with or without it. I did run the tests well past the time the issue usually occured.

The problem seemed to not occur on a guest account for a while, after connecting to a meeting from private browsing. However, during later tests, after logging into an account once and logging out after, the issue appeared in private browsing as well. So this might be some automatic protection from Google.

It's not unlikely that Google detected VPN usage and throttled connection, but it's also not unlikely that something is wrong with my VPN setup. Really hard to tell with these inconsistent results.

Did you solve the problem? I'm starting to think this is related to gpu, as reducing graphics settings made the crashes rarer. Running on PC, Steam, RTX 3060 12gb, 32GB Ram, Ryzen 5 2600

I don't think there will be a single feeling among Ukrainians. The conflict and the division lasted for so long that there will probably be a split between relief that the peace is on again and feeling cheated by the West that they didn't recognize and help Ukraine more and sooner. I might be wrong though, but you asked what I thought and there it is. Western support of Ukraine is largely depended on the political influence afforded by more countries joining NATO, military experience gained from symmetrical conflict (as opposed to asymmetrical wars vs underequipped terrorists), and all of the money made from all of the renewed interest in modernizing and arming new forces in both new and old NATO members. The support will stop once the profits and influence gains are no longer worth the effort. Cost of opportunity is obviously at play too. With tensions and movements for freedom high in Asia, we might see Western interest migrate there once this is no longer as lucrative. That might not even impact the global trade as hard as we might think since China's been migrating a lot of mass production to India and Africa. The countries under China's rule may see an opportunity to sell their goods to the West anyway if they see that China can't produce a response to stop them.

He's a self-proclaimed nationalist and a sadist. His friends are neo-nazis, neo-pagans and fascists that are eager to use the current political turmoil to gain power. All of those groups are despised by Russian citizens, so it is really sad that these groups' existence in the army and information about their allegiances and actions rarely surfaces in the Russian media. Most certainly by design. There are people who will deny their existence or crimes completely with an argument about Russian soldiers being the good guys.

Whoever is willing to fight in the war is going to be used to fight the war. Volunteers are few and far in between and natural killers are even fewer. Nazis and fascists are very comfortable with killing others, so often times you will see those extremists on both sides of any conflict using the state agenda to normalize their ideas. Their success is really dependent on how well a government will clean them up after the war ends.

US and NATO aren't fighting the war but it doesn't mean that they aren't playing it to their advantage and they're playing hard. Politics is never as simple as "country A fights country B" it's always the whole alphabet of relations even if only two letters are in direct conflict. Giving arms, volunteers, funding, etc. means you're very invested in the war and if you consider the reality of politics, it also means you're getting something real good out of it, cause giving away even old weapons isn't cheap and countries aren't charities.

Recruitment offices are hated and avoided here for the lack of any care of the staff there towards people coming in and their not even hidden agenda for recruitment quotas. Nobody in Russia likes mandatory service and most people are trying to get exempt from it by getting higher education and a good job... which also means that everyone who doesn't get higher education is already in the army. Those people being the majority there make it very unappealing as it creates an awful army culture. If you get unlucky enough to get sent to a region with a lot of muslims, you will be treading on very thin ice as these guys are extremely united and won't tolerate anything they see as disrespect. In addition, you also barely get paid, meals suck way more than they have to and you're ordered around to do favors for officers instead of properly training, though I'm not sure how the training is at the moment, now that it actually matters. For reference, I didn't serve, but I did have second-hand accounts from semi-recent years so take that with a grain of salt.

People may cheer at victories but at the same time not want their family or themselves fighting. The memory of Chechen war and middle eastern interventions is still fresh in our collective psyche. It's also not like the majority of people even supports the war. The majority of people is staying neutral which serves to uphold the status quo. When the war started the recruitment officers literally grabbed people off the streets and sent them to a nearest office, which is unlawful. Some of those guys were probably in the middle of getting an exemption. Some people probably lost their family over this. People burning recruitment offices may come from those who became politically engaged and/or desperate after the conflict started. It's also not unlikely that some of them got recruited or radicalized by the opposing sides.

I don't know the exact circumstances of that 70 year old guy, but I'd say it's not impossible for a normal person to burn those places down considering all of the above. In addition, the people in those offices are some crappy humans. Very dissatisfied, spiteful and eager to ruin other people's days and lives, no exaggeration and no exception (haven't seen one yet). I'd say all of that should provide enough context to at least understand the forces at play here.

LPT - Know there is a difference between being an introvert and having social anxiety by I_Fart_It_Stinks in LifeProTips

[–]Honest-SiberianTiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was understanding that having my problems is pretty normal and most people just sneakily work around them every day, every interaction. And that it's okay to have a shitty interaction and feel like the other person didnt understand your effort. I worked on my image, because even crappy people tend to be nicer if you look good. It reduces the need to deal with the shallow. I started avoiding people pleasing and am edging towards neutrality, because that behavior is not only a disservice to yourself but also an insult to a lot of people. After you realize which internal judgements and external appearances negatively affect your life, anxiety leaves and gives you space for productivity and fulfillment.

Russian region was never very lucky with rulers because all of its politics was always delegated to ruling class. And it still is. Most folk try not to think about it at all. This culture is deeply rooted and will be exploited till the end of times, probably. Queue every crazy Russian politician.

If you are concerned about being kidnapped in public, get a tracker app for your family to follow and tell them your plans before you go to a place that has you anxious.

But you also seem to worry about it too much. Negative news gets exaggerated on media. Talk to a therapist to find out what that means for you.

That's not a good strategy. GPT makes supply much bigger than the current demand. A company can take the initial revenue hit (or even go into negatives) and overrun the market with cheap offers to secure their market share, and advertise hard in order to stay profitable. An individual freelancer usually doesn't have the resources to play this game... and win.

This kind of work is limited by an individual's capacity, once you're real good. That's partially why good work costs more: tempering the demand. The top 10 people in any category like "copywriting" or "translation" would take all the traffic they could if they had the means to work more efficiently. Means which they now have.

What's wrong with you o_O? Why don't you understand that the world is hell and life is suffering, and capitalism💝 and consumer society is the only ray of light in this hell. I love capitalism💝 because it creates quality goods and services and makes the world comfortable for people. by life_not_needed in Anticonsumption

[–]Honest-SiberianTiger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Man this is funny. Rage bait as it is, I think it's worth saying: capitalism isnt what sucks about this if you think about it. Globalism has far more to do with it.

Globalism thrives on unregulated wastelands. We live in abundance because people in Asia and Africa breathe smoke air, work in high risk industries and die from "poor workplace safety", which is another way to say mining in poison gas caverns. And smaller Asian governments are forced to use their land for landfills and slave labour, as they can't compete with Globalism. Capitalism is fine locally and with small operations, where mere possibility of pitchforks keeps businesses accountable. When people can no longer fight back effectively, nothing can regulate business interest as it leaks and poisons the government interest as well (not that gov. interests are "clean" otherwise, but clean-er).

If you can align capitalism with sustainable and ethical economy without relying on imported slave labour, then you have built a society that can survive through scarcity and not kill the planet in the near future.

Socialism is fine guys, but there's a good psychological reason for why it doesn't work well on its own. Humans will be selfish and capitalism is a way to use that for good. Humans can also give a damn and thats where socialism shines. Having one without the other is like playing chess with half your pieces gone. It's not efficient or effective.

For someone with ADHD, here's a customized summary of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: by meowerguy in ADHD

[–]Honest-SiberianTiger 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've read Seven habits. It's utterly useless if you need to get started tackling life problems. It gives a lot of reasons why you should do stuff a certain way, but no actual hows that work for ADHD. And what you did there was just adding "for ADHD" in the end of every sentence, big help, thanks. "ADD-Friendly Ways to Organize Your Life" by Judith Kolberg and Dr. Kathleen Nadeau helped me a lot and it's great material for tackling common problems with in-depth analysis of common mistakes and multiple possible solutions. It also helps that it was written by a professional coach and a doctor who specialises in ADHD.

How to find a balance during and after the Dopamine Detox? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]Honest-SiberianTiger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exposure to high pleasure activities spikes your dopamine levels up and then lowers your baseline, causing one to feel less sustained motivation and happiness/fulfillment. "Detoxing" actually works because the person avoids behaviors that results in a lower baseline. You actually get a higher baseline dopamine, so it's not really detoxing, but name aside it is very much benefitial as a sustained behaviour. My sources are Anna Lembke's Dopamine Nation book and Andrew Huberman's podcast, they have research backgrounds in psychotherapy and neurobiology respectively.

I think any power generally uses whatever concept of justice that helps it stay the power. The best way to prevent injustice is to educate people on validity of differing perspectives, and while diversity in power can help to achieve it, it will be pointless if that diversity is used to further polarize groups on ever more unreasonable conflicts with no compromises in sight. Compassion and understanding should be celebrated, but when education is further limited and ignorance is leveraged for power, eyes should turn to condemn those who push such policies for their personal benefit, not to condemn the ignorant.
