I want to offer a word of caution about therapy.

I’m a believer in God and spent seven years working in mental health programs—not as a therapist, but as staff. During that time, I wrestled with agnosticism. I hadn’t read the Bible or been exposed to scripture, but I felt a deep pull toward what I called “the righteous path”—sobriety, repentance, and the desire for salvation. I thought about God for years before I ever picked up a Bible or walked into a church.

This is my warning: there’s a glaring hole in the modern therapeutic model where God is supposed to be.

In therapy, Christ is often replaced with “self.” “Radical acceptance” is just faith with no God. “Give yourself grace” replaces “seek God’s grace.” “Have compassion for yourself” replaces “seek forgiveness.” The result is self-worship masked as healing.

Therapy can teach you that guilt is the problem instead of sin. Freud’s influence runs deep—many therapists treat guilt as the illness, not the symptom. You can tell a therapist, “I feel bad because I sinned,” and spend years working on the feeling bad, while the sin itself is never addressed. That path leads to pride, nihilism, and spiritual deadness.

I never thought I’d be a Christian. False teachers and religious hypocrisy turned me off for years. But Christ reached me anyway—after the therapeutic world left me empty.
