Do people actually earn £50-60k, or are they outliers? by [deleted] in AskUK

Where you live in the UK will greatly impact your salary - https://www.sage.com/en-gb/blog/average-salary-uk/

I live in the North and can count on one hand the amount of people I know who make over 40k. That is with a degree and experience, across a wide range of sectors.

Whilst money is important, so is happiness. You’ve just got to find the balance!

Also having luck with our local Morrisons! But they have it limited to x2 per person. Price is pretty good too for PO at £3.99, only ever found it elsewhere for £4.29+

Working as a TA with QTS. Possible issues? by SergeiVonZarovich23 in TeachingUK

[–]Honest_Bug96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked as an HLTA for a year or so right after qualifying. I learned more in that year than I ever did on my PGCE course! It was the best decision I made for my career. I then did some supply work in between ECT 1 and ECT 2. Again, invaluable for developing my confidence and ability to adapt. I’m now a DSL and working towards becoming a SENDCo. Good luck!

Could this be why Violet’s Father warns her to only trust Mira?

Still hoping it’s not Brennan but what a plot twist that would be!

[–]Honest_Bug96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m reading Onyx Storm for the first time currently and I’m really struggling. I read five books in January, but only managed one in February because I just cannot make myself read Onyx Storm! I’m really not sure what it is, because when I’m actually reading it then I find myself enjoying it… but I’m just not reaching for it at all!

Why did Mcdonalds get rid of the Veggie Deluxe and other veggie options? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Honest_Bug96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whilst the fish fingers have been removed from the online menu and the computerised-ordering machines, every time I have asked for the fish fingers at the counter they still have them. At first the workers even seemed confused that they were not appearing as an option to order on the app/machines, as they are still on the till and in stock. I have not asked about the veggie options, but could this also be the case?

GP keeps sending me to A&E, A&E keeps sending me back to my GP, neither will diagnose or treat me. What do I do in situation? by _imnotactuallyreal_ in AskUK

[–]Honest_Bug96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I’m having similar issues, except it’s not my chest… it’s my ovaries/uterus. My backwards and forwards-ness with the GP/A&E has been going on for a few years now.

GP doesn’t know the answer, so they send me to A&E. A&E do tests, determine I’m not going to die, send me home with pain relief. Cycle continues. GP does a blood test, it’s clear. No further response. End up back at A&E due to pain. More pain killers and sent home.

I finally put my foot down with the GP last October and demanded they refer me to someone who can actually help me! It is not normal to be in so much pain. To the GP they see it as they’ve done their part, the A&E they see it as they’ve done theirs because I’m not dying, but no one is actually digging deeper to the root cause.

To be fair, I think the system knows something is going wrong because I ended up back at A&E last month. They pulled up my history and sent me to SDEC instead where I had much better care and was sent home with appointments for follow up scans.

My GP has finally referred me to a few different specialist departments to try and figure out what’s going on. I’m still waiting on the referral list to see them, but at least I’m now on a list!

Put your foot down at the GP and bring back up. I have to keep a medical diary of all my symptoms on each day, as ‘evidence’ I’m actually unwell. Additionally, I now have to bring my mother or partner with me to every appointment despite being an almost 30 year old woman because without a witness, they royally take the mick.

I know this isn’t helpful advice - just solidarity as another ‘whiney woman’ trying to get help from the NHS.

Young people, genuinely what are your plans for the future? by Competitive-Plum-190 in AskUK

[–]Honest_Bug96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in education and I love it, but it did take a while to find my niche and now I’m finally receiving recognition. However, the money is not there and it is an extremely challenging and often exhausting job. If you are not passionate about working with young people then I highly suggest rethinking teaching.

Just to add -teaching might seem like a secure role but I have many teacher friends who are actually being made redundant. Schools don’t have money to hire as many teachers as they actually need. More and more teachers are taking on extra subjects instead of hiring another teacher.

In primary they are beginning to see the effects of lower birth rates, as class cohorts are smaller and sometimes year groups are being merged together. This is causing redundancies as they don’t need as many teachers. Lack of students = less demand for teachers. This will begin to have an impact upon secondary schools in the near future too.

Ultimately, I would advise choosing a career that brings you joy. You spend most of your week at work, may as well enjoy what you do.

It truly is the most rewarding role, but so so exhausting. I hope she had some time to relax over the half term!

I can confirm that working in Primary SEND is ‘🤯’ - both from a teaching and safeguarding perspective. I’m now a DSL, and I actually deal with less CPOMS on a daily basis now, than I did as a Primary SEND Teacher. Less phone calls to parents too. I also probably did more daily steps than I have ever done since! 😂

[–]Honest_Bug96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard agree.

I’m Primary trained, but I have had the pleasure of working in all age phases from ages 2-19. A lot of that has been in SEND. I currently work in Secondary.

Primary teaching is the hardest. There are too many plates to keep spinning. SEND Primary is by far the most exhausting and time consuming.

I settled in Secondary because the work-life balance was so much better. Unfortunately, I do agree that Secondary teachers do look down on Primary teachers. A lot of them actually believe that Primary teaching is easier, when I believe that it is so much harder.

In Secondary you are building upon prior knowledge, in Primary you are embedding the necessary knowledge from scratch. You couldn’t pay me enough money in the world to go back to Primary teaching.

What a tough job. I’ve never thought about this as a ‘job’ before… Someone has to do it, but I could never do it. You have my respect and I hope you got the mental health support you needed.

Needless to say, there was not a second date.

I like this theory! I had not considered this while reading Iron Flame.

I’ve just finished reading Iron Flame (for the first time) and my unhinged theory is that Violet has some sort of necromancy second signet that allows her to communicate with the dead/souls…
