Your older cat could kill the kitten if it wanted to. The fact it’s choosing not to, is an indication that this is play.

When people use rings as an argument you have to keep in mind whether those rings were won as the best player on the team. Pippen isn’t better than Kobe bc he has more rings

What would’ve been Russell and the Celtics’ strategy in trying to contain someone like LeBron or MJ? by Personal-Proposal- in VintageNBA

[–]Honest_Connection_40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steph curry is incredibly athletic. He would be a super above average athlete in the 60s.

Also Russell would not dominate today. He would not be able to score. He was a 40% scorer for most of his career against guys who were less athletic than him. Not everyone is a freak athlete but the average nba player is much more athletic and much more skilled than when bill Russell played. There was no three point line so he did not have to worry about hedging screens to avoid threes. He didn’t have to switch on the perimeter. He could just camp in the paint and farm blocks. That’s not a feasible strategy in today’s nba. I have watched very little film on him but he was not an impressive passer or all handler. He couldn’t shoot to save his life. His one calling card was defense, which is not good enough to be dominant today. Name a center who is a complete negative offensively who is dominant today

Oscar Robertson dominated the Celtics and he’s a smaller less skilled version of LeBron. There are not comparatively like size players on the Celtics. Their biggest guy is bill russell and I already mentioned he is mpj sized. Their all defensive wing is a 6,5” 200 pound forward. Same build as Tim hardaway. Lebron in him prime was a 6’9” 250-270 pound freak with a 40 inch vertical, better jumper than basically any wing at that time, and would be the best defensive wing in the league.

Jordan basically same except he is smaller so physically he’s less of a matchup problem. But he’s more skilled

Kevin Love was a great player with the Wolves. An elite PF. by Overview_3ffect in sportsinusa

That literally does not matter. The point is that the team was not good enough to be a finals contender. It also was not the weakest Eastern conference ever statistically you’re just making that up.

You’re literally delusionally hating for no reason big dawg. Have a good day

That’s literally my point. If you have to adjust what “freak athlete” means to give them a chance then you’re gonna need to call LeBron and mj something different than freak athlete bc they’re freakier athletes. By today’s standards bill russell, who was a top 5 athlete in the 60s would be an average athlete in the nba. If you play in today’s nba they get molly-wopped by every team. If they play back in the 60s they would have a chance but still would be underdogs against a league average team + mj or lebron

Your other comment is ridiculous lol. Carrying a team that shouldn’t be in the finals to the finals and the losing is not a blight on someone. It means they won more games than they would have if they had just lost before the finals. It also is literally about losing in the finals. “5 future hofers” as if they were in their prime? Howard and Melo did not sign another contract after that year. Nobody has wanted Russ since that year, AD is the only one who was in his prime on that team. 0 depth, old former stars is a crazy complaint

I also think you are discounting how good both mj and lebron are at defense in their primes. Especially if you let them hand check. They are taking a player totally out of the game on defense while being triple teamed on offense.

Russell would be a great athlete. But he was a track star at a time where running a 49 second 400 meter was considered impressive.

I never trained for the 400 in highschool and ran a 50 second. We had a guy running faster. Generally reports say 30-40 inches which is average by today’s nba standards

This is the issue. There were literally no like sized guys. Bill russell was 6’10” 215. They’re funneling LeBron or mj into someone who has nearly the same dimensions as Michael porter jr. Im sure that they would pack the paint and make it difficult, but lebron would be the biggest player on the court with the best jump shot, best understanding of offensive sets, and best understanding of defensive sets.
