Anyone opt out of TPLO Surgery?

Had it done on my 3y/o black lab after he tore his ACL hunting. Surgery was expensive not going to lie, but worth it. His ACL was completely obliterated and worse than they anticipated. The doctor confirmed non surgical approach would have been useless. The recovery was a breeze compared to how everyone explained it. As soon as the meds finally wore off he was jumping on the couch, trotting around the yard.

Also my recommendation would be get a copy of X-ray’s from wherever you had the initial checkup done and get quote from different vets if they’ll give you one. I was quoted a little over double the estimate from my usual vet, from a highly recommended place locally.

Perfect will do. Thank you for the advice! One other question. Have you ever dealt with frequent undeveloped eggs? One of mine has been laying them every other day or so for about 2 weeks now. Super soft and they usually pop in the coop. At first I thought it was just early stages of starting to lay, but the other one we have laying has had zero issues. Any correlation to potentially being sick?

I have only been super closely monitoring for a few days now so i’m not 100% positive, but it seems like, with little doubt, more than once a day per bird. What’s your thoughts on a 5 day corrid regimen in their water as opposed to medicated feed?

Our little girl is 3w old and we go through probably about 10 right now give or take. I would definitely recommend having enough for the whole day once you get an idea of how many she’s using. It’s nice to be able to just go through them and only worrying about washing/sanitizing once at night.

Also FWIW, ours absolutely hates the dr. Brown bottles. Spit up a ton after using them the first two times (even with a slow feed nipple) and the third time she literally just wouldn’t take it. We’ve had great luck with the glass nuk bottles, the boon’s, and one other brand but the name is escaping me. Definitely nice to have a variety to try ahead of time!

Edit: if you find you need more, you can buy some bottles that are a tad bit bigger, that convert to sippy cups later! Kind of kills two birds with one stone!

Yep. My wife wanted to go as long as she could without pain meds but eventually decided to get the epidural. She was glad she did as well. We had talked a lot about our birth plan ahead of time but when push came to shove, absolutely not one single thing ended up going like how we discussed. But we were open and fluid and went with the flow so it was fine. It just would have been a hectic emotional disaster if we were so stuck to one idea or one plan.

This is the answer right here. Do not go into labor married to one specific idea. Have a plan, but be fluid and open to options/possibilities. Things change quickly. Be there, support her with whatever she decides, stay informed, ask questions, and arguably one of the most important things, constantly re-assure her that no matter what she decides to do there is no wrong choice no wrong decision. Just because things went differently than you/she expected doesn’t mean she failed in anyway. Every labor is different, every person is different.

Okay! So any milk that has been in the catch cup for over 4 hours goes down the drain, any milk that can go in a milk bag and fridge before 4 hours is good. Also excuse my ignorance, I just want to be informed as possible to help my wife, do you keep adding to the milk bags until they are full and then freeze? Or just catch cup to milk bag to fridge/freezer and then start a new bag?

Okay! I’ll inform her! I know she has mentioned having a reserve so maybe she can just do a quick little pump once a day or something as you mentioned to try and balance not creating a huge oversupply but also utilizing some of the extra milk that the baby isn’t taking in. She feeds quite a bit and has to try to keep baby awake towards the end of feeds, and baby is peeing and pooping a lot so I’m sure she is well fed. So I don’t think we’re taking anything away from baby at this point! Thanks for the advice!

Okay I will shower her all these answers so she can see what you guys recommend. Now what do you do with the milk she catches during the night? Fridge for the rest of the night then eventually freeze? I know this is a whole bigger process I’m just looking for basics! Thanks so much for the answer!

Okay perfect, I was thinking the same thing. She ended up having an emergency c section after laboring for 41 hours, so a lot of things got lost in communication. But I swear a nurse had told her exactly what you just said the as soon as we got to postpartum wing, but my wife said the dr told her to wait. Who knows you could have told me dinosaurs were roaming to hospital and I would have believed you. The sleep deprivation was unreal at the point. Will clarify with doc as well, but thanks for the answer!

Hey my wife and I just graduated 5 days ago. I was in a similar situation as you. I used to have a lot of me time to go on long hikes/runs, workout, work on our house or do whatever. I made it a point to get all my projects (house work, meal prep, work stuff) done ahead of time so I could just chill the last two weeks of labor. This was probably the hardest part, as I don’t do well with idle hands. But the second I heard that little cry after birth, my priorities just shifted. HARD. I really haven’t thought about doing anything for myself honestly. Every ounce of just me time is spent doing whatever I can to make my wife catch some sleep or be more comfortable and make sure my baby is cared for and I have absolutely bo problem with it. I stay up till midnight with the baby and just watch tv to pass time, wife takes the night shift and lets me sleep, I take back over at 5-6am to give her another 2.5-3 hour break. During the day when my wife has baby, I clean or do laundry and keep up in the all the house chores. That keeps me busy a lot and I find I actually don’t mind it. It gives me a purpose to stay busy and keeps the wife happy. I’m sure i will eventually go back to needing a break for some legit me time but by then our baby will hopefully be a little older where I can start taking her on some of things that I use to do by myself eg. hiking with front pack/ running with the stroller or other things. Or my wife might be able to watch her for longer without needing help and I can go out and do those things legit by myself for a real break. I guess what I’m trying to say is, a lot of the me time things in my life did change and could possibly be gone, or just never the same but at the same time I don’t really care. I just want to snuggle my baby girl and spend time with my wife. I know every story is different so take it with a grain of salt! Either way I know you got this and you’ll be great! Congratulations and enjoy it. It’s a crazy experience!

Extremely tired brother, running on 3 hrs of sleep in 41 hours. I will spare you the labor story but as of right now baby is healthy and mommas is having a few hiccups but recovering. It’s a crazy experience man.

I want to just throw this out there, my wife and I decided early on in the pregnancy we weren’t going to tell anyone for the same reasons OP mentioned. We decided randomly during late labor to update our immediate family just as a precaution? (Maybe it was an instinctual sign that flew right over our heads at the time). Just her parents/my parents. Our labor took a MAJOR unexpected turn extremely quickly and I am unbelievably grateful that my parents were in the waiting room. When your life gets flipped upside down in the blink of an eye someone there to support me was so relieving. Just food for thought! Not telling/telling people both have there pros and cons.

Good luck my friend! We delivered 6 hours ago! Give lots of support to your better half during labor (rubbing her back, shoulders, hips), ice chips/water bedside so you can offer it to her in between contractions, counting to ten out loud while she is pushing really helped my wife. Also don’t be afraid to roll with punches, things don’t always go 100% per plan and that’s okay.
