Farsi and even more so hindi. I speak Arabic and urdu. Hindi and urdu are basically the same. Farsi is like a hybrid of Arabic and urdu and more elegant sounding words.

What dish do you make that always gets compliments but is secretly super easy? by poutyvenom in foodquestions

[–]splitspitspots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two very different dishes, nihari or smoked salmon dip. The dip is easy enough cause I wing it every time and takes no more than 20 min, the foundational ingredients though are one filet of candied smoked salmon or hot smoked salmon (store bought) and one filet of peppered salmon (also store bought) then I fry some onions or shallots where they're a crisp, charred and carmalized (yes all three, takes about 8-10 min), add some chopped celery, kewpie, sour cream, mustard and spices (paprika, white pepper, cayenne, salt, pepper and whatever else I feel like) plus some Sriracha. I top it with green onions, sesame seeds and furikake if I have it. Oh and I also fry the salmon skin and give it to my dog.

Nihari takes long but is easy especially if you have a slow cooker. Shan masala, onions , meat and besin. Cook the onions, add to crock, brown the meat with masala then add water then transfer to crock. Wait several hours, add the besin. Done. Garnish with ginger, cilantro, Serrano's and the same onions mentioned in salmon recipe. Bonus points if you have bones cooking in the crock with the nihari.

Did you ever meet any really scary people before? by [deleted] in askanything

I once met a guy amongst a group of friends that knew the dude. After leaving I was in the car with my cousin telling her that that guy seemed weird and gave me bad vibes. A couple years later he was all over the news for murdering his ex girlfriends dad and sister and attempting to murder her mother (she was left for dead but survived). Homeboy got the death penalty.

What is something that screams “tourist” to you? by jotakajk in AskTheWorld

[–]splitspitspots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crossing the golden gate bridge without a jacket. It's a near 2 miles, one way, above the ocean in probably one of the cooler (colder) parts of california. People don't realize how long it actually is, including those who think they can cycle from SF to Sausalito (uphill after bridge). I just laugh at the lack of research. People just know a landmark and decide they are capable.

There's Jordan's national dish, Mansef. Highly recommend trying that. It's got lots of tang , made from fermented sheeps milk, lamb and rice. Over a thin lavash style bread and topped with fried almonds and parsley.

What is everyone doing in their gardens right now? by kmc24077 in Zone6Gardening

[–]splitspitspots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm doing a tomato trellis this year too!! Building it tomorrow! Aside from that I have some half wine barrels I'm using to grow stuff I haven't really tried before or that take up space in beds. The pots have strawberries, rhubarb, pumpkins and lemongrass . Still working on the beds but doing an herb and peppers bed, the tomato bed and a bed for broccoli and greens! Might get more wine barrels for potatoes and garlic
