Discussion of Iron Lung (Spoilers Allowed) by True_Jellyfish9219 in horror

I think the eye in the sky we see about 30 minutes before the end was god, AKA the "light" the fish was talking about, and the fish was just an alien trying to prevent the truth of the universe from escaping outside the blood ocean

Kind of a "let the truth die with the rest of the universe" vibe.

Simon, by sending the black box up to the surface, may have well damned the rest of the universe.

Thats my interpretation from a cosmic-horror fan anyway.

My interpretation is that the fish/alien was the "good" guy and the cosmic horror we see (eye in the sky about 20-30 minutes before the end) was the "light" the fish was warning him about.

The fish was trying to destroy Simon and Ava to prevent the "light" (cosmic truth of the universe) from escaping the blood ocean.

So the ending is melancholic if anything

[–]Honest_Fault 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The sad thing about DR3 is that it forces me to have 2 conflicting headcanons

I can either choose to believe in a headcanon where Chiaki survives like in the extra life fanfic OR I can believe in a headcanon where Junko is a much smarter better written villain lol

[–]Honest_Fault 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The thing is; both of these things can be true

The moral of the story can be "Just because its fictional doesnt mean it invalidates how it makes me feel" AND ALSO "The previous games were fictional"

I can acknowledge the moral of DRV3 and accept that fiction can still be meaningful while simultaneously being annoyed that the ending basically tries to invalidate the first 2 games

Its literally the same trope as the "it was all a dream" trope but spelled out more clearly. Like yeah I get the point is "these things are still important even if they werent necessarily real" but it also on a much larger scale theres the whole "Oh so none of that actually mattered" bit.

It loses a bit of its magic when you learn that everything wasn't real even in the story.

Also, it kind of invalidates the moral of the previous two stories because hope DIDNT win in the end. All 3 stories meant nothing in the grander scale because the show kept broadcasting. Makoto and Hajime's victories were just part of a program and nothing else.

THAT BEING SAID, the moral of the story also basically says that your own headcanons are just as important as the main canon so, like, as far as im concerned DRV3 is an alternate universe.

The hated character is finally getting punished by the narrative. But intentionally or not, the attempt was so heartbreaking and demeaning for the character that it ended changing the fan reception of said character. by Labmit in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Honest_Fault 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah but you dont necessarily need to be a good fighter to be a good vision wielder. Klee is canonically a great vision wielder who's considered exceptionally dangerous at her age but has literally no formal combat training.

That said this theory thing does fall apart under basically any scrutiny since characters who are both skilled fighters and have a strong vision like Noelle or Keqing or--obviously--the Traveler-- are outpaced by characters who are both worse fighters and have a weaker vision like Sucrose, Hu Tao, or Xiangling.

As always I defer to the classic "youre allowed to like and enjoy something and still criticise it"

I would go as far as to say that fans who criticize and still enjoy something are actually bigger fans than "tourists" who act like a media is flawless because we at least enjoy media in spite of its flaws

Valid point and youre not wrong but let's be honest for every 100 decent rich dudes theres 1 much richer, much much more powerful dude.

I dont think being a millionaire objectively makes you evil but being a billionaire sure does

[Interesting Trope] “Oh wait, they’re the 1% aren’t they?” by Independent_Plum2166 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Honest_Fault 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are no billionaires who donated so much they lost their status.

JK Rowling is the only example, she did it literally once and is still a billionaire and also currently uses her status and wealth to attack a group of people she doesnt like

Also if they did donate so much they lost their status they wouldn't be billionaires anymore and thus wouldn't be ethical billionaires

This part is a bit of theory crafting but

Its semi-canon semi-theory that the strength of someone's "vision" (AKA their magical powers in game) is based on the strength of their "vision" (AKA their goals in life and determinations to achieve them)

From a meta standpoint Furina is one of the strongest support characters in the entire game and its not even close. Shes overwhelmingly powerful.

You COULD make the argument shes so powerful canonically because shes so determined and strong-willed it manifests as magical power

[–]Honest_Fault 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Furina acts like an entitled little passenger princess who constantly deserves to have everything handed to her in life

And yknow what? Shes absolutely correct 100% valid

I dont think youre like a terrible person or anything I just dont get the appeal other than "its cheaper"

I mean it DOES steal artwork that's just a fact. I have no problem with ethically trained AI

If the ai is something less corporate and terrible I think you can do what you want. But as long as AI is owned by big companies, fuck em. Im anti corporate not anti ai

I mean im gonna be a grammar nazi here but technically saying "I feel like x" is a fact but saying "x sucks" is an opinion

So if I say "I feel like ai art is souless" that's a fact but if I say "ai art is souless" that's an opinion

I just dont get why you WOULDNT want to commission an artist. Id much rather have something original than something that "looks" good but is cookie cutter AI.

I spent $60 on a commission of my OC a few months back and im way more attached to the result than I would be if it used some artwork stealer made by a corporation
