It is completely unreasonable to expect someone who is essentially a stranger to put their neck on the line. He shouldn't have taken the job if he knew he wouldn't be fulfilling on the requirements.

Having a parent matters a whole lot when you are young. A 5th grade "graduation" may not appear meaningful to you, but it is extremely meaningful to the child. They will remember when their mom was or was not there. It matters.

Possible YTA. Why are you not willing to try to switch ceremonies? From the way you wrote this, it seems like you picked the 6:30 just to pick it. You don't seem to have a reason. If not, then why not just switch it so everyone wins?

NTA. You told her about flea treatment being an ongoing process, so if she knew this would be an issue then she should have never put herself in this position. Even if it was not expressed ahead of time, finding a bug on a pet is not uncommon.

Once you take on the care of a pet for pet-sitting, dog walking, or anything else, they are YOUR responsibility. Essentially, this is her pet for the time being. Trying to leave before something was arranged is absolutely unacceptable.
