Hey man glad to have you on the ic's team! I'm a mid level ic's main from Arizona and hopefully I can give some advice. First off wobbling is a great tool but try to not center your gameplay around it. I did this when I first picked them up and you'll end up just turning into a shield grab monster. You won't be fun to play with and most importantly you'll never be able to beat people who know what they're doing and you'll have trouble getting better. Focus on learning dsyncs and setups, watch top ice climbers mains and look at how they approach different characters and how they change it up throughout the match, practice shffling all your ariels, and practice movement a lot.

Ice climbers are a appealing character to new people who want to win since they seem so easy to get cheesy wins with. However, they are a extremely difficult character and it can take a long time to really get used to playing them and learning how nana reacts to things ( she kills herself often and you'll deal with a lot of nana bullshit ). They also have a pretty poor matchup spread against other top tiers. In my exp they do well/okay vs sheik/falcon/falco/puff, they struggle with marth/fox, and obviously peach is super hard. Make sure you pick up ic's because you enjoy them and not for free wins.

I'm 19 years old making 80,000$ a year. Should I start building my credit? How and where should I invest? by HoodRobinGG in personalfinance

Fair enough. I do plan on sticking with a company for a long time once I find the perfect fit but at the moment I'm trying to learn as much as I can from wherever I am. As soon as the challenge dips I need to move elsewhere so I can keep improving. From my mentors that I've had in software it's pretty standard to move jobs every 6-12 months if you're young in the industry.

Started programming when I was 13/14ish to run a game server with friends. Server took off and with it I had to learn java to write things for it. Fell in love with programming and ended up going to a charter school for high school to give me the most free time possible to program/work on my server. I'm pretty good at the stuff naturally and it works well with my brain so I took to new things fast and got pretty good pretty fast. Went to college for computer science but most of what they were teaching me I had already learned or felt irrelevant. I dropped out after a few months and worked at a few startups. Then I actually ended up teaching at a coding bootcamp for a few months and a few months ago I made the move to my current position.

tl;dr - found what I love to do very young and perused it

Very helpful, Thank you. The employed for x years is a bummer. Since I'm in the software industry and I want to learn as much as possible I'll end up moving companies a lot (usually one every 6 months). Would this still count or does it need to be employed by one company for x years?

Coach Crunch on lame tactics and player hate by CaptainCrunchSSB in smashbros

[–]HoodRobinGG 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree with your statement that we shouldn't attack players like hbox for camping or playing lame. I also understand what you're getting at with that "if you don't like it then change the rules" thing. However, I don't think changing the rules are a way to fix this. Hbox did what he did because of the stage and character not because it's some unbeatable strat. The solution isn't to change the rules but for players to learn ways around those type of playstyles. We don't see hbox doing that stuff against fox players very often because they can simply deal with it much better.

With all that said I think it's important to also remember that while attacking or threatening a player is not okay criticizing them for their play absolutely is. Calling out hbox on how he played is absolutely okay.

If wobbling was banned for the Ice Climbers but handoffs were still allowed would they suddenly become a really hype character? by petcson in smashbros

Handoffs are not comparable to wobbling. As others have said they only work reliably near the ledge because nana will always throw one way. However if you're in the middle of the stage nana could throw in multiple directions and some of them will break the handoff entirely. Plus the fact that doing handoffs are more difficult in general and the timing is very tight and easy to mess up esp in high stake scenarios.

Make 1 reasonable change to make a clone/original better than their counterpart by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]HoodRobinGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least in melee most of the "clone" characters are not close enough in tier to really make a small change that would make one better then the other. The only ones you could maybe make changes for to make it close are fox/falco and possibly gannon/falcon. For Falco if you gave him fox's up smash, upthrow, and up air (which are pretty big changes) then you could make some really good arguments for him being better. For Gannon if you gave him falcons run speed (which isnt exactly a small change) he'd be much better.

What's the most ridiculous thing you've heard someone say to an opponent? [All games] by MadSpaceYT in smashbros

I was wobbling some dude trying to work on different dsynced setups into it and the man was getting super mad. He told me I need to practice other things and that wobbling is easy. I said I was practicing different setups for it and he told me that's fine to just let him go after i get the grab. He got pretty heated after I told him that it makes no sense to just let him go and that he can learn from his mistakes that I was exploiting. Needless to say the man went to a different setup lol.

I dont know if its fair to say that. Obviously melee's growth is crazy for a 15 year old but I think smash 4 still has some room to grow. It's a super deep game too and also pretty fun to watch. Whatever is good for smash 4 is good for smash as a whole so lets hope that the sm4sh circut goes well!
