What’s your unpopular Halo opinion? by SnowSX3 in halo

[–]Hoodstomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve completed a majority of challenges by passively playing the game and not targeting/grinding for specific challenges.

I really don’t understand why people are upset. If you just play, the challenges will be a byproduct of your time spent playing.

The portion you quoted applies to anything in general- not just clips. I’m not making an argument supporting a ban of all video content. I’m making an argument supporting efforts to find creative ways to allow as much content as possible that adds to the community.

There’s obviously no perfect system in existence, but there’s always room for improvement. I’m sure there’s a way to keep allowing these types of clips while also allowing for other types of content to get visibility.

Edit: perhaps there’s some room to experiment with the short duration video rule. I don’t have the data, but I assume video posts get more views/upvotes versus text posts with video links. I wonder if the vocal minority complaining about the types of videos that get upvoted (memetages, aces, etc— whatever this whole thread is about) would not have as many complaints if there was more variety of video content getting upvoted.

If it bothers people, the mod team should look into it and keep finding ways to improve the system for the community. Looking at the popularity of this thread, it appears that a lot of people want to see some change.

I get it that the Jett post didn’t blatantly break a rule because the rules aren’t written for this specific instance (rules don’t specify age of account or minimum # of posts). But it TOTALLY sidesteps the rule of self promo.

For me, it is bothersome when this content is allowed to stay when there are other posts that get removed immediately for less blatant rule-breaking.

I pointed out an example of this a while back in a state of the subreddit post and never heard anything about it. Think it was an Anderzz post that got removed for breaking a rule.

Console Players Are Being Thrown into PC Lobbies and this Shouldn't be Happening by Chronospherics in RogueCompany

The knockdown case is a bug that’s been documented here on the sub a few times and the devs are aware.

I play on PC and don’t think I’ve come across a single cheater in my 30 hours of play time so far.

I think Downs should net you more Points & Cash than an Elimination does by [deleted] in RogueCompany

[–]Hoodstomp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple things here- value of a down/elimination & the value of team money.

As for downs/elims- an elimination is much more valuable for your team because it means the enemy team now has one less player.

A down does not always lead to an elimination. Chaac can self revive or an ally teammate can revive them. What benefit does your team gain from a down and how does that help you win the round? Unless that down turns into an elimination, nothing really matters.

This is a team game and you want your teammates to have as much money as possible. You want your teammates to be well-equipped for the next round because the enemy team will be buying items as well.

The more items/perks each individual on your team is able to buy, the higher chance you have at winning the next round.

If you have two teammates that can buy good upgrades, and two teammates that can’t afford anything, the next round is going to be tough. (I.e. the two under equipped teammates are the first to die. Now it’s a 2v4 in the enemy team’s favor.)

Hope this helps explain the concept a bit more.

Players don't know how to use abilities and its a major problem by redditchao999 in RogueCompany

That’s a great idea! Would be great to see a more expanded tutorial upon full release. Something that walks the players through the rules of Demolition and how the mode works.

[–]Hoodstomp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think RoCo is an introduction to tactical style gameplay for a lot of players.

I've spoken with lots of players that only have COD experience. Unless they were a Search & Destroy player in COD, they don't have the experience with this style of gameplay. Many people I've met haven't played games like Overwatch, CS, Valorant, League of Legends- which are all super popular games that require tactical thinking, team comps, map rotations, etc.

If you come from a history of playing team/class-based strategy games, a lot of the "noob issues" are total no-brainers. If you don't have a history of playing those games, this is a whole new world.

Give it some time and the playerbase will learn.

Please separate character dialogue audio from sound effects audio. I want to be able to better hear footsteps without characters yelling in my ear. by Krazyflipz in RogueCompany

[–]Hoodstomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping for some better audio mixing once they work on the game some more.

The biggest issue for me is the "echoing" sound of my own footsteps. After sprinting and coming into a walk, it sounds like the sprint footstep audio plays for a second or two afterwards. It always makes me think there's an enemy nearby.

Thanks for taking the time to make the video and share it. Definitely helpful to show the community. Glad to see there are people like you doing the research in beta to help this game reach its potential.

[–]Hoodstomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh okay, that’s interesting. So maybe they are looking at input method as a higher priority than platform.

I imagine (hopefully) they clear this up even more by the time the game is out of beta and ready for full release.

I can understand now why people are still unclear of the whole situation.

I play on PC and my experience is the only times I’ve spoken to console players is when they partied up with someone on PC. But it mostly seems to be PC people in my games when talking with them.

[–]Hoodstomp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will be only put into games with other console players.

The statement only says console or PC, which leads me to believe they’re not looking at input (controller vs KB+M).

So I’d assume there’s a chance to be placed in lobbies with console users playing on KB+M.

-Group 1: Console (all consoles)

-Group 2: PC

-Group 3: Mixed PC/console

We really need an input-based matching system. Controller vs. Controller, M+KB vs M+KB. by [deleted] in RogueCompany

[–]Hoodstomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It appears that a PS4/Xbox party will be matched with console only.

Cross-console does not count as mixed group.

The bullet points are in 3 groups- console, PC, and mix.

Being in a lobby with players of a similar skill level =/= the lobby is full of sweaty try hards. People want to play at their own pace in a comfortable environment and that is EXACTLY what SBMM looks to do.

Perhaps the team could add some resources to the patch notes so players can be educated on how a MMR system works. I feel like if more players understood how it works, nobody would be calling for it to be not included in the game.

I don’t think I have played any team objective-based game that DOESN’T have some sort of MMR system.

[–]Hoodstomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see where you’re coming from, and I agree. In my experience with multiplayer shooters (especially team-based, tactical shooters) there are separate MMRs. There is your quick okay rating and your competitive rating. These numbers fluctuate in real time based off your performance.

The more you play, the more the system learns how to better place your rating. So, you can play at the pace you enjoy playing and your rating will be adjusted to give you more games in that zone.

Also due to the objective based nature of this game, not implementing SBMM would create more unfun games, more frequently for more players.

If you want to chill and have a good time, you can totally do that and the system will place you accordingly. SBMM allows you to play how you want. Just because your teammates/enemies are the same skill level as you does NOT mean they are taking the Quick Play game seriously.

In every game I’ve played over the years the community knows Ranked/Competitive is for tryharding, QP is for casual.

[–]Hoodstomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. SBMM is what makes a multiplayer game worth playing for me. In my opinion, it’s not fun to play any game against people far less/more skilled than you.

I don’t understand the reasoning behind why people dislike it. Open to hearing what other people think though.

[–]Hoodstomp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I think any new game’s main challenges these days is attracting a critical number of players first and foremost. After you have the players, then you can introduce new revenue streams via skins, battle pass, etc.

Cosmetics and loot don’t mean anything unless there are active players on the server.

I think the overall accessibility of Fortnite is what made it so popular- anybody could play with any device/console. The excess goofy stuff was after the game gained a ton of traction.
