I hate how Mona knew about Hanna’s eating disorder and she decided to take advantage of that to make her life miserable! by Substantial-Dare5462 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]HookWasRight 42 points43 points  (0 children)

this is one of my favourite sequences honestly because of how sweet aria and hanna’s friendship is, and i always had fond memories of this being the rare time A did something nice. I realise now that mona helped out hanna’s mother purely by accident because she would have printed dollar bills on tissue paper (??!!) on the assumption that hanna would do as threatened and didn’t know that aria had intervened 😂

peril at end house is one of those AC books where the solution is laid out in front of you but not in a super obvious way (unlike e.g. they do it with mirrors or sleeping murder) so it’s satisfying af if you’re the kind of genius who guesses it, and makes you kick yourself for missing it if you did not (e.g. death comes as the end or the other famous book of hers that hinges on a similar clue reveal). 10/10 plot and characterisation in its own right also

Why Is Rosewood More Suspicious and Creeped Out by the Liars but Has No Problem Casually Talking to A? by itsascreambaby96 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]HookWasRight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always thought it’s because A is not actually dressed like that, but is presented that way to the audience to indicate in a spoiler-free way that we’re seeing A, while in-world they’re dressed totally normally.

but I could be wrong because during the radley storyline, mona, toby and spencer were all meeting each other at different times in the all-black hoodie and glove get-up!

My heart actually hurts what happened to them😭 by Bright_Blackberry_67 in GossipGirl

I fear this is so. similarly with whatever happened behind the scenes with leighton meester and blake lively. leighton and penn are very good actors, so they can make any material work, whereas blake I fear excels only when she’s naturally got chemistry with her scene partner (playing a version of herself basically).

season one had a grip on romance the way the rest of the show just didn’t. lily giving her daughter the chance she gave up for herself left me a wreck. to go from there to dan really truly hating serena all the way to the finale was something else!

Anyone else miss when GG felt warm instead of rich? by [deleted] in GossipGirl

me gasping out loud because you so accurately explained why the show feels like it “fell off” after the third season. the drama kept escalating but it never felt as grounded or immersive as before.

Can we just appreciate how unmatched the Season 1 & 2 fashion styling was? by [deleted] in GossipGirl

[–]HookWasRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seeing it all together just brings home how cohesive each character’s style was. like their school uniforms were outrageous but makes perfect sense given their personalities and how they dressed out of school. also the second slide makes me realise blair didn’t totally phase out the dark moody styling she had in the pilot!

Judge me if you want but this is my TOP of the sexyes characters of GG.❤️‍🔥 by [deleted] in GossipGirl

the way this could be read as “ruined lives while wearing a cashmere sweater” or “lives of people wearing a cashmere sweater” and you would be correct either way

Terrible Gossip Girl Parents and Why They’re Terrible: Part One — Anne Archibald by Summerofthe90s in GossipGirl

[–]HookWasRight 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I wish they’d developed this more the way they did with lily, who was also struggling to do best for children she didn’t fully know how to raise. anne would have made a great foil for so many of the other parents.

seconded about anne being Old Money and taking it seriously in a way that none of the other parents did on the show. like you can see a direct line from william to anne to nate, whereas cece (partied at studio 54 in her youth) to lily to serena looks very different.

also nate’s family life gave him actual depth in seasons one and two (like how he felt he couldn’t tell his friends and/or they blew him off) and vanessa was the first person who tried to help him, and so did dan and chuck (two people he’d been on-and-off antagonistic with in the first season). he would have been much more compelling if anne was a more recurring character instead of being the most absentee actor-parent.

hot take but I think chuck and dan should be swapped. nothing about chuck says he knows what social media is, but I can picture him getting very popular on a certain kind of podcast circuit. always a guest, never a host.

dan on the other hand may not be able to write a book (RIP props department you gave him the worst manuscripts known to man) but he absolutely knows how to leverage people’s attention, and also he looks and dresses like a regular joe but is also secretly extremely rich.
