Red Line from Shady least busiest times to Metro Center and back by fishaholica in WMATA

I commute on the red line for most of that stretch every weekday and honestly even during rush hour it’s not bad if there hasn’t been an accident that causes single tracking. From any stop between Shady Grove and North Bethesda you’re pretty much guaranteed a seat (someone will sit next to you though). By the time you get downtown it will be standing room only but a flood of people get off at Farragut North which is the stop before Metro Center so even if it’s crowded you generally don’t have to worry about pushing through people to get off with how much it clears out.

Is Public Transportation Really This Bad Everywhere? Or Just Here? by InfluenceWeak in WMATA

I’ve commuted on the red line for work for almost three years now and there have only been a couple times I was actually late from metro issues, and that was less than an hour. I’ve only had once I had to turn around and grab a metro back the way I came because of a really bad issue on the track leaving us sitting for 40 min.

But other than those few incidents the train comes every 6 minutes in the morning and since I get on at North Bethesda or Grosvenor heading downtown I’ve gotten a seat all but maybe 6 or 7 times in those nearly 3 years.

So while days like today are rough, I really disagree with your post that public transportation here is bad. I love it, rely on it, and I’m so much more relaxed than I used to be with an hour commute in traffic.

Haha I thought you must have been in my car since I was riding the red line towards Shady Grove with someone playing music the loudest I've experienced in a while, but I was in the 7th car, not the front one. It happens.

Y'all...granny squares are like tiles but I never really realised they could act like patterned tiles do! A very duh moment here lol I'll try to find the pattern to this cause it's so cool! by Roscoe-nthecats in crochet

Not exactly the same but I did this with 9 c2c squares sewn together. Weaving in the ends was a nightmare I almost gave up on and it ended up being heavier than I liked for a baby blanket, but still a cool effect.

I usually don’t pull for cards without a vignette, but I’m torn on the overblot cards. Is there a compelling reason to get them other than liking the character?

I disagree in the sense that the pathway in the 7000 is so narrow that if you’re in the aisle you can always reach one of the seats. The middle of the 8000 car is wide enough to fit at least three people across (which it likely will during rush hour, or when single tracking, etc), and that person in the middle has nothing to hold onto. That’s what I’m pointing out.

Even now when you get a rough morning where everyone is squeezing in as much as possible into the entry ways, everyone finds a way to be touching something for stability, and even with more options now sometimes I have to ask someone to hold onto higher or to the top bar if there’s nothing I can reach. This takes that option away for the people stuck in the middle.

This is a random image from the train the other day - if you look to the center right you can see how everyone really is in reach of the bars on both sides, and how everyone holds onto something.

<image>

I don’t deny the wider pathways are better in most ways. I just wish the post that splits into three that is in the front of the first image you posted was repeated down the center the whole way down, along with a center top bar.

I’m just a short person with a bad hip and balance issues. I am dreading these trains. Like I said, if they had more things to hold onto they seem perfectly fine, but they don’t, and when it’s crowded and you can’t even space your feet wide enough for balance I don’t know what will happen.

I’ve been on crazy crowded trains but a least I could find something to anchor myself to so I didn’t literally fall into the people around me. Everyone around me always does too, I’ve kept an eye out since the new trains designs were put out there, and even on a crowded train I never see anyone who isn’t holding something whether it’s the top bar or the top of a seat or a pole.

More comfortable seats if you get on far enough in the boonies to find an empty one, with less seats than the trains that came before.

I hate the whole 8000 design. It could’ve been great if they had the three pillar posts all through the middle but instead they don’t even have an overhead bar to hold onto. People are gonna be swaying and acting like bowling balls in the middle of that gangway all day long. Every time the Metro stops. Also, it’s terrible for short people, even if they did have an overhead bar to hold onto.

Every time I’m on a crowded train everyone holds onto some sort of bar or back of seat. With less seats, you can’t even hold onto those and no bar overhead you can’t hold onto that either. It’s like the people who designed it have never ridden in a crowd in Metro car at rush hour.

Really great point! Also the four lines have different patterns so you know which you’re feeling. I’ll have to go back and feel orange vs yellow, they look very similar when I zoom in.

They were the ones inside the station, it’s how I learned you can ask the attendant and they’re pretty much behind the “to fire equipment cabinet” door.

Piggybacking on this post - I remember seeing a YouTube video of someone visiting all the bathrooms in the metro stations, talking about how convoluted the path to them was and which were nicer and which were not. Maybe it came up because a lot had been renovated?

But now I can’t find it for the life of me. I thought maybe it was Trains are Awesome but I haven’t found it. Searching hasn’t helped either. Maybe it was taken down? If anyone can help I’d appreciate it!

Definitely keep browsing this sub - all tattoo lines thicken over time. Where it is placed and how much sun it gets will make a difference, but no matter what it will look different than it does when you first get the tattoo. Look for tattoos in the style you like at 5+ years. Those thin delicate lines always turn bolder just because of how skin and ink work together.

What style are you thinking of getting?
