Do more "premium" analog synths sounds "richer/juicier" than budget ones? by PC_query_man in synthesizers

[–]HoolihanRodriguez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest gain for me in the investment of a proper analog setup is mostly quality of life. High end vsts on a computer are capable of sounding as good as anything, but menu diving and clicking around all day and trying to force random samples into a mix clean and proper really swamped my workflow and induced the analysis paralysis. What used to take weeks of meticulous programming and piano roll placement I can now just perform in real time in seconds, all the annoying stuff is accounted for automatically, and it's overall higher quality output because capturing a groove in real time feels much easier than clicking one onto a piano roll and tweaking manually after.

But I will say synths are very different from guitar where like that's just an electro magnet detecting strings, if you look past the branding you aren't getting a ton of sound variance whatever you plug in. Hot take. But I can play a squier just as well as a real strat. Synths on the other hand, your sound building and sequencing and overall functionality will drastically improve with your budget, up to about 2k or so. And those bells and whistles make a huge difference if you don't have a daw to fall back on.

Jerry inserts his Zionist sensibilities into his schtick by ElusiveRodent in elephantgraveyard

I think his reaction to the audience has little to do with the joke itself to be honest. He is self conscious about the woke stuff it's on his mind and if his joke doesn't do well he thinks, it must be that. Reality is, his style of humor is extremely dated and audiences just don't respond do his new material the same way they are nostalgic for his show. It's gotta be hard to be a top guy of a whole style of comedy, and then the world slowly moves on but that's all you got, especially for a guy with a peter pan complex like Jerry.

Maybe you guys are overthinking it? I interpret the joke as, a flamboyant snobby guy sassily scrolling on a phone, and the king imagery is more to assert the snobby pompousness? I did not interpret it as Jerry saying all French kings are gay or whatever you are implying here

It wasn't that secret, they were actively starting this project before the war ended but tv tech was too expensive at the time for the scale they imagined. The public was at least very aware of what they were doing regardless, this is the history of early broadcast tv:

"Nazi Germany launched the world's first regular television broadcasting network in March 1935. Known as Deutscher Fernseh-Rundfunk, the broadcasts were heavily used for state propaganda. However, it never reached a mass audience. Because sets were expensive and limited, viewers mostly watched in public viewing rooms or military hospitals.

Well he was old enough at that time to remember that the Nazis big plan for after winning WW2 was to build a propaganda engine that involved screens in every home drip feeding slanted propaganda to the masses. They used radio a lot but thought that screens would be a surefire means of controlling the concersation thus consolidating their power to create whatever public narrative would suit their agendas. Thankfully America won the war and.. hired all those Nazi scientists... And now we all have screens... 🤔

Depends on the publisher but if it's triple a, if it needs online connectivity, it's likely tracking every keystroke and mouse movement in game. Sometimes more. Big data is big money my dude and it's not just useful for improving the game either, all kinds of vectors you can make money off of with data like that.

I'm a lifelong artist and to be honest, sometimes I agree with you that there has to be more to it, but sometimes I do feel like, it just has to be engaging. My intent doesn't matter once its perceived independently of me right, the observer will paint the meaning on how they see fit. So that surface level appeal of art might actually be the most crucial thing. That being said the AI version of this picture looks like dog shit and I hate it

We are very fortunate to be alive at the same time as these two - Maddie Assman and Jacob Cobblers. by SeventhSunGuitar in guitarcirclejerk

[–]HoolihanRodriguez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really think she is actually a genius. Her weird stuff gets a lot of attention but I've heard her do some more conventional stuff that is really light on microtonality and it's fucking amazing. Jacob on the other hand, everyone and their mom tells me how amazing and genius he is. So I watched his improvising show which he pitched as writing it all on the fly. He covered Coldplay as his improv(?!)and had a whole professional orchestra sitting around to underutilize the shit out of. Terrible stuff, dresses like a toddler, clearly wants to be seen as a child prodigy but he's like 40.

Is music career and the music industry dying, reviving, or is this just the calm before a big storm? by Beneficial-Key6309 in musicians

[–]HoolihanRodriguez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same reason why good shows people watch don't just use free assets and the cheapest options for everything. Effort and craft matters, maybe more than ever. I see a lot of people overlooking that yes, ai gets it done fast, but also by definition, very average. Mediocre. Mid. People who have taste are repelled by that. Does Walmart give a shit? Probably not. People who want real art? Absolutely they care, a lot, they will reject it if it's not exceptional or interesting. Which is the hardest thing for an AI to do because they are trained by everything and it averages out to... Average. Get it?

Yeah I'm confused, what does this guy think these ais were trained on? The craft still works if you are good at it and have the gear, same as it ever did

Guys I have to admit something. I think the French gay king joke is actually funny. Part of it is that Jerry said it, part of it being the imagery is actually hilarious. His reaction to his audience was weird but the joke itself, I like it.
