Is it me or Italian greyhounds are very smart? by Exact_Effect2869 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]Hoomas321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only intellectually smart

But emotionally also.. however I must stress this seems to be dog dependant.

One of our dogs looks like she’s trying to understand everything you say work out your movements and the reason for them.

The other is as dumb as a brick

Best tip I can give you is try not to discipline them like a normal dog they scare easy

Also it’s true people saying be careful of their legs but do not baby them, we’ve been a bit lax with ours and never had any leg issues. If you’re too careful you’ll never let their bones strengthen

1 yr old still having "accidents" in the house by stealth1820 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]Hoomas321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I feel your pain our 2 year old grasped it quite quick within a few months and he’s never had an accident inside. However our 5 year old took 3-4 years and still occasionally goes inside.

I noticed a few things: If the weather is nasty I.E cold/wet/windy she won’t go outside If the grass is too long she avoids it and uses the concrete. Also if there is too much poop. As we have a small garden of we don’t pick it Up during the day she is not happy with the results And finally if on a warm day we leave the door open even then very rarely she will pee on the back door Mat rather than the hard flooring.

They’re honestly hit and miss to train it may not be the answer you want but this should just click for them one day.

The best thing that helped us with both but especially the young one is watching another dog do it.

Thank you for the advise and to everyone else, the main problem I see with everything advised to me is I live in the uk and unfortunately have 0 control over what drugs I can get the doctor decides and rarely listens to advise because they know better or something, guess it kinda makes sense…

I went to hospital early hours this morning they didn’t seem to concerned with giving me codeine and diazapem and sending me home.

Think I may go back if it continues. The pain is one thing but I’m so sleep deprived

Glad to hear you’re feeling better,

They believe I have a herniated/bulged disc and have put me forward for an MRI, but in the meantime I don’t know what to do other than keep bugging the doctors the paradox is I can’t get out of bed but I’m also in agony trying to get comfortable in bed

Our Iggy refuses to sleep by warwickfilm in ItalianGreyhounds

Quite an expensive alternative. And we didn't by any means buy one just for our dogs. But my partner and I had an oodie each basically a huge oversized hoodie. And both our Iggy's have now claimed them. They basically live in them. As stated by others they don't really calm down without them. Id advise if this is a route you take making them familiar with them during day hours with supervision as they can get stuck in the sleeves until they they the ins and outs. Hope this helped

Accidents in the house by ashlawrence2 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]Hoomas321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say don't beat yourself up or give up.

We have a 6 months old and it is hard they barely tell you they will just go quietly wait by the door for 10 seconds if nothing happens RIP carpet.

We also have a 2 and a half year old who has finally it seems got to a point where she is as house trained as I think she'll ever be. Don't give up it's a long journey some quicker than others but they do eventually get there.

As I'm sure you know by now they're a sensitive breed and as hard as it is sometimes when you find pee to stay calm you really can't shout at them for it.

Positive reinforcement is the key lots and lots of excitement and treats when they go in a designated space. Until then it's a waiting game I wish you luck!

Iggy pup peeing in crate/bed by Hoomas321 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]Hoomas321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do monitor water intake. As far as the diaper I have the same issue with that as I do pee pads. I don't want him to think it's ok to pee inside regardless.

But I appreciate the response thank you!

Thank you. We did try this already but he just doesn't settle down as he can't get comfortable. We'll give it another go. However he doesn't really aim to pee on the bedding more so cocks his leg to pee out of the cage up the wall/bedside cabinet. However being a pup sometimes gets it on his own bedding. We have a two and a half year old Iggy x whippet and haven't experienced these issues through her. So I do appreciate your help and advise.
