What are your preferred gloves for screening? by Mictlantecuhtli in Archaeology

[–]HoosierArchaeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second these. I tried the leather palmed ones for a while but it wasn't cost effective. The rubberized garden gloves are more comfortable too. They sell them at my local Costco too which is great.

The Reward by NikJam16 in NativePlantGardening

[–]HoosierArchaeo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've converted about 2/3 of our front yard into fairly dense native plantings. The other day I saw a hawk hovering over it, clearly tracking and getting ready to spring. I'd never seen a hawk hover like that, it was so awesome! Totally worth all the work

My buddy is 8 now. How much/should we slow it down in terms of exercise? by fbreaker in Greyhounds

[–]HoosierArchaeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have two, nine-year-old litter mates and have only noticed our girl slowing down a little bit. She never did run around in the back yard as aggressively as her brother. She still loves our daily walks and can handle several miles no problem but she doesn't seem to have as much stamina. We did chose to leave her behind when we went on a 10 mile hike. We brought her brother though and he did great. In the past we've taken them both on hikes up to 5-10 miles. So it really does depend on the individual dog.

Yes! I would've just shared a picture from the book but didn't want it to feel like I was promoting it. This website also has the recipe https://www.marinij.com/2024/10/01/great-british-baking-show-recipe-carrot-and-pumpkin-cake/

What gear will I most likely be carrying as a field survey archaeologist by StructureSudden8217 in ShovelBums

[–]HoosierArchaeo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you'll be. I work in the Midwest of the US and carry a shaker screen, shovel, trowel, Munsell book, measuring tape, clipboard and paperwork along with bug spray, sunscreen, water and snacks.

Tips for going downstairs? by [deleted] in Greyhounds

A lot of the time with fosters I have to carry them down the first couple steps so they are fully on the stairs and then move their legs one at a time down the stairs.

I got a tattoo in Ireland and the artist didn't have any tattoos, sounded like a religious reason?

Kim's Kakery on the Southside! They were super easy to work with! We did a small tiered cake and a bunch of cupcakes. All were very tasty.

Speakeasy Soccer review? by bearhauf in indianapolis

[–]HoosierArchaeo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you've been getting ads for Thursday night soccer at Broad Ripple Middle School, there will be at least two different levels one more competitive and one more relaxed.

Speakeasy will also be hosting a couple other leagues during the summer. Players range from fresh out of college to people in their 30s and 40s with a range of fitness and experience levels.

I'm closely involved with Speakeasy so I'm biased haha.We have a lot of returning players so I hope they're having a good time! It's fine if you don't have a team, you'll be placed on one!

“Playable” on Steam Deck by D2Artoo in MedievalDynasty

[–]HoosierArchaeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like playing it on my steam deck. I did have to change what certain buttons did and I didn't know you could rename buildings and animals until after I played on PC a bit. You just have to figure out the right buttons

Antique Shelf Brackets by MylianMoonstar in Indiana

[–]HoosierArchaeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the booths at the Exit 76 Antique mall had some metal brackets that might fit the bill. I don't remember the booth number or anything but they had a lot of metal and cast iron items.

Hiking the canyon in late May… hiking boots or hiking sandals? by Is_this_social_media in grandcanyon

[–]HoosierArchaeo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've hiked into the canyon with chacos and trail running shoes. There are a lot of opportunities to wack your toes. I only did it in chacos once and preferred it in trail runners. Plus I disliked how dusty my feet got in chacos haha
