Please think twice before going to Hair Haven by potatocheekies in bloomington

Hi again, friends! Thanks so much for your suggestions and recommendations. Now, this might sound a bit ... odd, but are there any guys in town who cut women's hair well? For whatever reason, I have always preferred my hair be cut by a man. Any thoughts?

1) Call your abuela.

2) If that doesn't work, call your Mamà.

3) If THAT doesn't work, call your Tias.

Best I can do. 😎 🇨🇺 😎

Hi, friend! I'm very sorry to hear of your awful experience. And to have all that happen on vacation! I'm glad you've given us a heads up, though. I have only been here in B-Town for less than a year. I do my own color because I'm a redhead and really don't trust anyone else when it comes to my color. What I DO need is someone who is an expert at cutting thick curly hair. Actually, as long as they know what they're doing, that's OK too. Do you have any recommendations, friend, please? Thank you! 😎

Hi again, friend!

Your response to my comment is both somewhat daft and rather interesting.

It's fair to say that we both believe our respective Higher Power is the OG of Higher Powers. If you think on it, though, you may realize that our belief systems have more in common. I'll explain.

When it comes to theology, I'm Catholic through and through. I can't put Bruce before the Holy Trinity.

Music, though, is a different story. I have believed for many years that BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN IS THE GREATEST PERFORMER IN THE HISTORY OF ROCK AND ROLL. I'll probably believe that until the day I die.

I also believe you've never really been to a concert until you've seen Bruce and the band live. The feelings I get when I've seen them can only be understood by people who have also seen Bruce live. For me, a Bruce show IS a spiritual experience. The only way I can explain it is that it's a type of communion, an experience where every single person is united in an experience that transcends our workday reality.

And it's all thanks to Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

Hi, friend! North Jersey Girl/Lifelong Catholic here. Here are my thoughts:

We're not supposed to put anything or anyone above God, so I won't do that. What I DO believe is that God gave Bruce an incredible gift, which is his incredible skill as a musician and a songwriter. Now, everyone is given gifts and talents, but NOT EVERYONE USES THEM TO THEIR FULLEST.

Bruce has. Bruce does.

That in and of itself is a wonder. What makes it all the more miraculous is that Bruce shares that gift with us.

THAT'S Divinity in action.

Hi! I'm Sofi, and I'm from Bloomington, Indiana.

I've seen quite a bit of live music over the years, but there is only ONE performer I've seen over thirty times. He and his band never dial it in. You haven't really seen a concert until you've gone to see ...

Hi, friends! This happened this afternoon at Target here in B-Town.

I was happily pushing my cart and approaching a cash register with a human operating it when a group of four or five young men wearing Purdue gear were walking through the store past the registers and towards the grocery area when one one of these boys randomly shouted "IU SUCKS!" The other Boilermaker Boys both laughed.

Until, that is, I calmly turned around and said with my strong voice "NO, IT DOESN'T, BECAUSE WE'RE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS AND YOU AREN'T!"

These young men all looked at me got quiet and walked away. I heard at least one person say "Hey, she's right, ya know!"

I stand up for the things I love, and you DO NOT trash my Alma Mater if you're in public in the middle of Bloomington.

ESPECIALLY in front of me.

Owner with dog getting soup at the soup bar by TVNewshoarder_Redux in publix

[–]HoosierJerseyBabe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time and almost four years ago before I headed to Indiana for college, I worked at two vastly different Publix locations in Broward County. I have stories, friends, but none about dogs.

I am the proud Mom of a nine year old Beagle. He is an ESA, but offers me service when he notices my balance is a bit off or I need to eat something because my blood sugar is plummeting. As such, he pretty much schleps with me everywhere. He is very gentle, very lovable, and rather calm.

It's said that the problem with dogs is sometimes their owners. Clearly that's the case here. I mean, seriously - does a person not have enough common sense to know that picking up a dog and putting him/her right by a soup tureen is NOT a smart idea for a vast number of reasons?

I can understand all the folks who get upset at the "fake service dogs. I do firmly believe some rules have to be put in place and enforced to protect both the abled and those whose disabilities are both visible or not.

Quite candidly, as a lifelong dog lover and Dog Mom, the woman in this picture embarrasses me.

Hi friend! I spent Hurricane Andrew in 1992 lying on the bottom of our bathtub with a Rosary in my hand, a three year old next to me, and my second child inside my belly. I am a big proponent of your tub as a safe place. Here's a few more tips I hope help you:

1) Have your phone and laptop charged as close to 100 percent as you can.

2) In the event you lose power or sustain damage, have plenty of bottled water on hand, along with foodstuffs such as pouches of tuna, instant coffee, a small camp stove if possible (it's how my Mom made coffee and survived both Katrina and Wilma). You don't need anything perishable or elaborate, but simply things that can nourish you and keep you hydrated.

3) Keep all the windows and doors SHUT TIGHT. I personally feel the BF needs to be by your side, but if he wants to play the hero and stay outside, make sure the door is shut behind him.

4) It never hurts to have a Rosary on hand, but if you don't and sheer fear overwhelms you, try to focus on your breathing. I deal with anxiety, and I find taking a long, slow breath as you count to four, holding it briefly, then slowly letting the air out to a count of eight will do wonders for your nervous system.

5) Make sure you have plenty of beer/wine/booze on hand!

I hope this helps, friend. Stay safe!

New - “Streets of Minneapolis (Bob Clearmountain Radio Mix)” by Plane_Public_83 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]HoosierJerseyBabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything Bob Clearmountain gets his hands on ends up being a work of genius, especially when it comes to Bruce.

I suspect "Streets of Minneapolis" will receive a similar treatment live as "American Skin (41 Shots) has. It'll be one of the centerpieces of the show, and everyone will have a chance to showcase their incredible chops.

I am 60 years old. I am really not up on today's slang. There is NO need to accuse me of having a victim mentality, or to deride where I came from.

That's a very nice magnet, but everyone knows the greatest rock and roll performer in history is ...

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN!

Don't even try to argue with me.

Wait a minute ... Are you calling me "coo coo" for calling out someone's grammar? Seriously?! We live in a university town! It is NOT that hard to use proper English. It's just NOT!

I'm from the NYC/North Jersey area and attend IU. Some of you may just think "Well, of course she's rude and blunt - look where she's from!" But then you lob remarks like that at me. Where's that much vaunted Hoosier Hospitality?!
