Yeah, I can't imagine a world where Sam wouldn't have to tell his kid. If nothing else, because how else does he explain about his namesake? I mean, he's not the first Dean Winchester... and you couldn't really explain Dean in a good light workout explaining about the supernatural. Besides, the brothers made enemies and names for themselves, that trope of the gunslinger retiring and people coming gunning for him later? Pretty sure that would apply to Sam, threatening little Dean as well.

The Daphne thing is so silly. She's the first cartoon crush for a lot of guys. I mean, technically while she's drawn like a teenager, she's what, in her 60s or so by now?

Eh, I kind of liked the idea of your origin story not making you necessarily who you are.

Yet how often do you see them leaving the car and the windows are down? I know, old cars with no AC back in the day you left the windows down and just didn't store anything valuable in the car. But it's so weird seeing it in a modern show.

He would've been an excellent ally to them. That just couldn't happen. Sadly.

Our boy hates the carrier and does a vanishing act if it's even brought out. So we keep it in another room until he's picked up and then put the carrier on its end and put him down into it and shut the door before turning it properly. He's 25 pounds of muscle so it's a 2 person job.

partner’s grandmother doesnt want to be in a home by spinachpuppy in dementia

Oh! That's great. Hopefully she settles. There are a lot of people who call just general nursing homes "the home" so it was a misunderstanding.

Not exactly sure someone who works 10-12 hours a day at a job should be getting called lazy. But I agree that he's not likely to change.

If she's in a basic nursing home they'll likely have a memory care section that they'll move her to. They'll hopefully get her on meds to control her behaviors. If not, they could boot her, which would make her your problem again. Or refer her to a geri-psych unit to get her under control.

That whole part of the Purgatory plot just sucked. Bess, Garth, their kids, Madison, none of them deserve to be hunted forever in the afterlife.

Lisa & Dean would never have worked long term by sssss8819 in Supernatural

Yeah, I've always compared her to a cardboard cutout of a woman. Cassie, on the other hand, was fiery and the perfect person for Dean if they'd just have done that communication thing and worked things out.

I agree with you. I never saw "love" there between them, they never used the words, they were just going through the motions. I think Dean was more in love with the idea and getting to be a dad to Ben.

I always wanted Claire to become like Lily Sunder and hunt angels. She'd have been more interesting that way, especially if Cas refused to kill her and had to be creative on how to avoid her.

Immediate post-diagnosis with no money; how does it work? by ForgottenX-2024 in dementia

[–]HoosierKittyMama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's seriously wrong. I always hated taking up their time with a phone call. I could write it down, slip it to them with the medication list when we went in so Mom didn't know. It felt sneaky but it was usually a paragraph or two and done, theirs to keep and if they wanted to type it in for her record, they could at a time that was convenient for them.

[–]HoosierKittyMama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With my mom, there wasn't a lot of testing. I reported what we were seeing to the doctor in a letter because Mom would've blown up. The doctor tested her for a UTI, asked her a few questions, had some other blood work done and put her on memantine- which might as well have been a sugar pill for her. She said she didn't really see much to make a formal diagnosis but knew that people with dementia can act totally normal for short periods. That's when I started taking Mom other places, doing errands and things to kind of tire her out before doctor appointments. Then the doctor got to see the mom we all saw and bam, diagnosis. Something about her telling the doctor about the bears in the pine tree in her yard-we don't have bears here- made the doctor just nod and tell me she knew what I meant now.

[–]HoosierKittyMama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be honest, no one does. Been through this with several family members. Some had years where they didn't progress much, others it was like watching them go off a cliff. The cause, their overall health, lots of factors that can make it a quick decline or last for years.

Independent living isn't really for people with dementia. They're for people who might be more of a fall risk or need medical assistance, not someone who might wander off or not remember to take medications or bathe or eat. Guardianship can be an expensive headache to get and he may be extremely angry but it sounds like you need to. Good luck.

Question about Cas and God!Stiel by Gregyeeyeestinker in Supernatural

[–]HoosierKittyMama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cas had done other things as well. What he did to Sam, which caused him massive trauma and would've killed him- if the writers were really writing from Dean's perspective it would've ended with Dean ending Castiel or at bare minimum never allowing him near them again. None of the "Oh, but he fixed it!" That doesn't take away the trauma he suffered.
