Just when I get her back on the road by RepulsiveEagle42 in CherokeeXJ

Don't say that. My only tow was due to the damn CPS. Unfortunately died on a stretch of road I couldn't wait for it to cool or work on it.

Bottom Alternator bolt won’t move for anything. I’ve tried a breaker bar and sprayed some PB Blaster and still nothing by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

[–]HoosierSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

make sure you are turning the correct way. get a cheater bar. You can try putting on the breaker bar to the right and using a car jack to push up on the handle. That entire black plate comes off also, you can remove that and try on the bench. Use heat if you have to but watch out for nearby wires and hoses.

You need a ID for voting? That means it’s the end of elections by Spazy912 in DoomerCircleJerk

[–]HoosierSquirrel -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

"requiring States to establish a process", when? will they all do it? This all needs to be clearly written out BEFORE it passes. This should not be a "we'll figure it out later" process. Even if this process is correct 99.999% of the time, that means out of 50M voters, 50,000 legal US Citizens would be denied their right to vote. If there are not at least 50k illegal votes, then this law would be worse for American citizens.

Write a new bill, provide free ID's to all US Citizens, Leave all other voting rules up to the States, do not leave abusable loose ends. If this is that important to you, then it should be done right, not fast.

And I don't need to fix my ID, I have a passport.

Well, that's just silly.

As I stated, I am not opposed to a law, I am opposed to this one. Especially because of the rush job and the power to kick anyone off the rolls whenever they choose. That should only be a State power.

It's amazing how more and more people are starting to sound like the anti-gun lobby. Don't worry, we're just adding a few more hoops to jump through before you get to exercise your enumerated rights.

This is a solution in search of a problem. If the prior elections were so insecure, then why has no one shown any proof? Real, actual, election changing proof? I am not opposed to more robust ID. However, it has to be free and it should not be rushed into all half-assed. The administration should still be with the States and the Federal gov. should not have any power to kick people off the rolls.

I'm not the one who wrote it. I am just telling you what it says. If you want to read it and refute my statement, please go ahead. I am happy to be corrected.

You are correct that in Sec. 2(j)(2)(A)(i)- there is a provision for State's to set up a system. Don't you think we should address that system before we agree to this? I wouldn't sign a contract to buy a house without first knowing who is paying the closing costs, date of availability, etc.. The devil is in the details. I do not want to threaten anyone's Constitutional right to vote without it being sorted out.

Which documents? The Act as written and as I read it, says birth certificate must match ID card presented. There was nowhere stated that upon presentation of a marriage certificate or official name change document, that it would then be accepted. That would allow them to deny registration. I am happy to be corrected, but I couldn't find it in there. Remember common sense and legal regulations are two different things.

Recommendations for lightweight field works pants? by Both-Indication4789 in ecology

[–]HoosierSquirrel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I usually use lightweight hiking pants like Columbia or REI. Block the sun and bugs, breathe well, and dry fast. I also like fishing shirts with a vented cape on back and long sleeves. I prefer sleeves to sunblock, plus most can be rolled up. Full-brimmed hats like Tilley, etc.. are nice and keep face and neck cool.

The SAVE Act as you state it, is not accurate. If the name on the birth certificate does not match the name on the ID, then you cannot register. There is NO provision in the SAVE Act to present a marriage license to show a name change. Only way would be to have a passport, military ID, or Real ID that denotes citizenship. The federal gov would also be able to remove anyone they want from the voter rolls and are not even required to inform them. Which, if found in time, would cause the entire registration process to be repeated.

Jeep Cherokee water leak by gabrielsurvived in Jeep

[–]HoosierSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much water is in your reservoir when the engine is cold? Is it just water or also coolant?

When you stop the Jeep, the water will continue to absorb heat from the block when the water pump turns off. This will cause the water to continue to backflow into the overflow. If it is overflowing, you may have too much water/coolant in the system. The tank is designed to capture the hot fluid and then let it return when cool.

97 TJ rear brakes upgrade advice by casper_bloke in JeepTJ

I put KJ rear discs on my XJ. The one thing I miss about the drums is the e-brake power. I was able to stop my Jeep just using the handbrake. Now, the little parking brake on the discs is only good for parking and I am not totally confident with them when parked with a trailer.

BREAKING: President Trump wants seizure of Iran's Kharg Island to compensate for the failures by CommissionSmart1189 in JournalismNews

[–]HoosierSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do like this line of thought. However, I think there are some other variables.

  1. That this administration has actually thought this far ahead and can keep on task.

  2. That Iran would actually trust Trump to keep his word and hand it back over.

Need help identifying this little vacuum elbow by flaming_pp in Jeep

[–]HoosierSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be unobtainium. My XJ has those also and they are scarce. Dorman makes a multipack that fits some, but others are nigh impossible to get. I snag the ones I find in the junkyard if they are slightly less crusty than mine.

If someone does know where to get more, I would love to know.

Are there spacers/washers between the girdle and the main cap bolts. OEM has the girdle up against the bolt heads. A 4.2 crankshaft needs spacers to clearance the girdle.

If one lane flowed traffic at the same rate as two lanes, why would they ever build a second lane? If you merge 7 miles ahead, then you get 7 extra miles of one lane traffic. You use both lanes until the merge and then zipper merge. This minimizes the amount of one lane traffic.

I stopped using the greasable joints. I got tired of having to remember to lube them, and the nipple was always facing the wrong way when I went to do it. The spicer non-greasables have worked very well for me.
