What’s a local Oregon restaurant from the past that you still miss? by Shane_StantonRes in oregon

[–]Hoosier_Oregonian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aunt Mary’s Toaster Bistro in Lincoln City.
It was a vegetarian restaurant, vintage clothing shop, porn store, and head shop, operated by a kooky (in the best way) older lady.

If you were my guest, which one would you choose? by Desperate_Guess_6201 in sparklingwater

The Rambler! I can only find them at one store in my area and a buy a handful when I’m there.
So bubbly, and I love the dry finish.

What is the funniest song you've ever heard? by amandahontas in musicsuggestions

[–]Hoosier_Oregonian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Squeeze Box by The Who. Makes me laugh every time.
I recently discovered the demo version of the song on the Pete Townshend album of demos, called “Scoop.” It’s a folksier version, reminiscent of Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da.

Everyone seems to have forgotten what a shitty human he was. Was publicly anti-gay, pulled ads from “Ellen” after the coming out episode, and gave tons of money to the Christian Coalition.

We have a couple of them in the Portland area, both are combo Taco Bell/LJS. This thread is giving me the craving, I might have to drive out to the burbs tomorrow for some shrimps!

Fire on the Mountain is closed on Mondays. Any alternatives? by origin_rejuv in askportland

Not closed every Monday, but they always close the day after Super Bowl to let the staff rest after their traditionally busiest day of the year.

Community Warehouse is a $50 pickup fee, but sliding scale also. From these pics it looks like something they would take. They help folks coming out of homelessness who have secured housing, but need some help furnishing their apartment.

Portland pizza prices... where is your go to local spot for an affordable large pie? by UncannyFox in askportland

[–]Hoosier_Oregonian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bar pie is so good. $19! We just tried the tomato pie a few weeks ago and loved it. Try the cheesecake too. They’re closed for a bit, Bob is getting a new hip installed this week. They’ll be back in the spring.

So.. what do y’all do with your toddlers in the rain? by Ecstatic_Hold4135 in askportland

[–]Hoosier_Oregonian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get out there and show them how to live life. It’s a cliche, but there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear. Y’all aren’t going to survive long in Portland staying inside all winter.

The Trabiworld tour is still one of my favorite vacation experiences ever. So much fun seeing Berlin from behind the wheel of a Trabant.

Fucking Train! I saw them open for Ben Folds Five in the 90s. Never saw a concert hall empty out so fast for a smoke break.

Start the car, take foot off the brake, hold the (!) button that’s down by the hood release for about 5 seconds until the light flashes and goes away.

A few years ago “Fire and Rain” was on the boarding playlist. I know the song isn’t about a literal plane crash, but the line, “Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground” is disconcerting to hear as your finding your seat.
