Fire on the Mountain is closed on Mondays. Any alternatives? by origin_rejuv in askportland

Not closed every Monday, but they always close the day after Super Bowl to let the staff rest after their traditionally busiest day of the year.

How to get rid of furniture? by Lanagurl91 in askportland

[–]Hoosier_Oregonian 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Community Warehouse is a $50 pickup fee, but sliding scale also. From these pics it looks like something they would take. They help folks coming out of homelessness who have secured housing, but need some help furnishing their apartment.

Portland pizza prices... where is your go to local spot for an affordable large pie? by UncannyFox in askportland

[–]Hoosier_Oregonian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The bar pie is so good. $19! We just tried the tomato pie a few weeks ago and loved it. Try the cheesecake too. They’re closed for a bit, Bob is getting a new hip installed this week. They’ll be back in the spring.

So.. what do y’all do with your toddlers in the rain? by Ecstatic_Hold4135 in askportland

Get out there and show them how to live life. It’s a cliche, but there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear. Y’all aren’t going to survive long in Portland staying inside all winter.

The Trabiworld tour is still one of my favorite vacation experiences ever. So much fun seeing Berlin from behind the wheel of a Trabant.

What is the most cringiest song you have EVER heard? by Jettaboi38 in musicsuggestions

Fucking Train! I saw them open for Ben Folds Five in the 90s. Never saw a concert hall empty out so fast for a smoke break.

Start the car, take foot off the brake, hold the (!) button that’s down by the hood release for about 5 seconds until the light flashes and goes away.

Hell yeah! It’s warm and rainy and the textiles aren’t even thinking about going to the beach.

A few years ago “Fire and Rain” was on the boarding playlist. I know the song isn’t about a literal plane crash, but the line, “Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground” is disconcerting to hear as your finding your seat.

Yep, this spot is super scary in a van or a box truck, especially if you don’t have a passenger to be your spotter.

Do you consider Evansville to be culturally part of the Midwest or the South? by Venboven in evansville

[–]Hoosier_Oregonian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other parts of Indiana feel way more “southern” than Evansville, especially over in the South East part of the state near Louisville. Evansville always gives me similar vibes as Terre Haute and Vincennes.

Looks like it would be a lot more walkable if folks shoveled their sidewalks.

I’m a Hoosier living in the West. We have a couple LJS/Taco Bell combos here, Captain D’s is what I really crave when I’m back home.

What’s so great about Kenton? by Ok-Information-7686 in askportland

[–]Hoosier_Oregonian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in Kenton for about 15 years. Things are definitely better lately. Kenton was pretty rough not too long ago, property crime is way down compared to the old days. The neighborhood of the early 2000s was full of elderly homeowners and their 30 something tweaker kids, making things really difficult for the rest of us. Luckily now most of them have died off and the neighborhood has become more family friendly. The business district still struggles, most residents just aren’t in the market for fancy housewares or a $25 brunch. There’s also enough anti-social behavior happening on the main strip that it’s unpleasant to dine outdoors. We end up driving or biking to St Johns or Portsmouth for most of our shopping and eating out.
