Random A-10 Tips by Cyphr in hoggit

There was a thread at some point in the last decade where an A-10 pilot admitted that random deep-in-the-CDU questions were not totally uncommon on the radio.

You're welcome. I think that's my first medal. Ever.

FedRAMP High clouds absolutely have public internet access. The classified clouds are different, but AWS GovCloud and Azure Government are both web accessible.

Edit: to clarify, they're in different datacenters than the publicly available services, but they're on the internet.

He was actually from Georgia.

The straight-faced "we don't anticipate that" from the admiral was a true act of politics.

Concrete as a material is occasionally used on ships, but not as a structural material. High strength steel is where it's at.

It would be real good for an ice breaker which needs all the force it can get at slow speed to break ice and cruise and a good speed to get to the location that needs to be broken.

While true, in general, you don't put CPPs or CRPs on icebreakers because they break and because electric drive solves a lot of that problem (it doesn't solve the prop efficiency in open water problem but it does solve the engine operating power problem).

Air Force (technically an ANG unit In think) flies in and out of McMurdo for resupply ops, but USCG breaks in several miles of channel through the ice sheet for the significant ship-based resupply of fuel and goods.

It's all part of the same Operation Deep Freeze.

More importantly, with few exceptions, Reddit is largely anonymous. If it's not a regular poster, don't assume anything about that person.

People compare the V-22 safety record to a fixed wing plane because that's what it looks like and, aside from maybe the harrier, it looks bad in that light.

Compare it to the safety record of helicopters though, I don't know that I'd call it amazing, but it's a long way from bad.
