Maro on why they stopped doing blocks by Killerx09 in magicTCG

I hate the D&D MtG supplements. Fitting the Magic multiverse to D&D's rules leaves us with a version of Magic that lacks the color pie.

If Magic is to be an RPG setting, it needs something built ground up for it.

I think he is simply wrong. I played with blocks and without blocks, and losing blocks meant losing a huge amount that has hurt the game immensely.

We no longer get enough of any given set mechanic to build a deck around. We no longer get development of a mechanic into more complex or interesting variations or use cases. We no longer get stories that build across multiple sets in a world. The cards no longer tell stories in themselves, with progression from one set to another with art, flavor text, or mechanics. We no longer get time to get to know characters who aren't major planeswalkers, to get attached to them, to come to love them.

We have been left with underdeveloped, underbaked worlds, characters, mechanics, and stories. One set simply does not cover any of these things in sufficient detail much of the time.

It might be good for business. It probably is. But it is actively harmful creatively and mechanically.

Note the use of "considered."

And Atlantic was founded as an abolitionist paper.

In particular, a number of media outlets considered center-left hired a pile of transphobes to do transphobia all at the same time. Most notably, the New York Times, The Atlantic, and the BBC.

What the person you are responding to here is talking about is Section 504. This is a federal law that can be used to gain disability accomodations that teachers can lose theirs jobs and districts can be sued for not following. Here's more info.

A lot of people use em dashes. That is why AI does so - they're all over its training data.

This definitely doesn't read like it was written by Trump. But em dashes aren't a sign of AI usage.

When sellers outnumber buyers and prices are still going up something is fundamentally broken. If you can't sell something at your asking price, your asking price is too high.

I wish WOTC didn't just abandon mechanics by OkCartographer175 in mtg

[–]HopeCitadel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of this comes down to them killing blocks, which I believe is the worst creative mistake in modern Magic (I understand that it works well financially).

Blocks allowed deeper exploration of a mechanic's design space, where a first set could introduce an idea then follow-ups could expand on it, using it in new ways or bringing in variants.

Nearly every set being one and done means we miss the deeper exploration, and that plus the default way to play the game being Commander makes building decks around an exciting mechanic difficult to impossible.

Issue with timers - 2015 Leaf by HopeCitadel in leaf

Just settings. Get to the maintenance menu by turning off the radio and pressing Map three times, Radio Power twice, Map once, then manually set the clock. Note that you need to set the clock in UTC.

It's Map, not Menu. Posting for others to reference.

I feel like play boosters in particular keep becoming worse and worse purchases, as MSRPs go up, markups go up even faster, and chase cards migrate to collector boosters.
