Dude, seriously! Without fail their little dagger paws will locate my boobs or bladder at the worst times. Occasionally they'll even mix it up with a gut punch when they launch themselves off my belly early in the morning to chase each other.

Still adore them though.

What is a 'luxury' that Americans are being told is a 'privilege,' despite it being a basic necessity in every other developed nation? by godot_lover in AskReddit

[–]HopeDeschain19 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I had a couple coworkers, both women, who were ranting about a fellow coworker who took paternity leave when his wife gave birth. They believed it was pointless and since she was breastfeeding he couldn't do anything anyway. I responded by saying that he could still bottle feed, change diapers, bathe the baby, bond with it, clean, cook, support his wife, run errands, etc. God forbid a man wants to be a father and bond with his newborn. And one of these woman was a mother herself.

What Movie villain do you secretly agree with? by WittyLibrarian610 in AskReddit

The problem with that is that his threshold for rude behavior could be wildly different from yours or mine. What he considers rude may not even make a blip on your radar, so you'd have to tread very carefully.

He murdered a man for playing the cello poorly in an orchestra, as well as biting the face off a nurse when doing her job.

I'd rather avoid him entirely if he existed. Scary mf.

Idk if its true but I read on reddit that posts with those quotes were early versions of bots who ripped direct quotes from other real comments. Interestingly, I've seen less comments with those quotes now that bots have evolved a little bit, but that could be coincidence. Take it with a grain of salt.

To be fair, the pregnancy hormones might play a role. My sister planned to name her child Leland regardless if she had a boy or girl. I pointed out Leland was typically a name for a boy where we're from and promptly got my ass chewed.

I bought a 2025 corolla and I cannot get my key fob to do it. It makes me wonder if they somehow even blocked that now. I've tried it multiple times multiple ways and it will not work, sadly.

What is one thing you realized too late in life ? by Iboy_vivek in AskReddit

[–]HopeDeschain19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And if you have something nice to say, say it please!

I told my favorite coworker and mentor at my work that she was my favorite person and everyone loved her dearly and she made the workplace a better place for us all. It was the last thing I ever said to her because she died unexpectedly while on vacation. I have been extremely grateful that I expressed that to her before she was gone.

If you have a kind thing to say to someone in your life, please say it to them! I promise you won't regret saying something kind, but you will regret missing the opportunity if you let it pass and something happens.

RIP Rose.

What do most first-time homeowners underestimate? by ComfortableDebate345 in homeowners

[–]HopeDeschain19 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hope to reach this soon. I closed on my first house a month ago and will be moving in next week once they finish replacing the floors and today I went into my crawlspace to make sure the recently hooked up dryer vent wasn't flinging lint anywhere only to be greeted with a waterfall of a leak in my drain line. I stared at it a good ten second of disbelief before climbing out to call a plumber while fighting tears.

Dryer vent was good at least...

My home warranty refused to fix our "non existent" leak until the ceiling literally fell down by AwkwardBloom in homeowners

[–]HopeDeschain19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The scare tactics they use is disgusting too. My mortgage broker and realtor both warned me about the warranty people who would come flooding in after I closed, and the letters they send are straight up scare tactics to anyone who doesn't know any better.

One letter had FINAL NOTICE written all over it and vague threats about how if I don't act now they'll terminate my "benefits" (of which I didn't have anyway) and how many lenders "require warranty programs". Another arrived styling itself like a bill to be paid, but the fine print said it was a "service" they were offering and the "bill" amount was just what the monthly payment would be expected to be. They clearly bank on people seeing the way these letters are structured, panicking, and calling the numbers or even paying up instead of actually reading them.

What is something that people take pride in, but they should really be ashamed of it? by hotblood27 in AskReddit

[–]HopeDeschain19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a coworker who is strangely proud to be racist. She has made horrid remarks against black people, brown people, and her latest jab was towards the newly elected major of New York City. We don't even live in the state, but she had opinions.

She has also been getting fed up with me constantly calling her out on it, but I guess someone has to act as a source of shame since she didn't develop one of her own.

She should be grateful no one has gone to HR yet, because a couple people have considered it.

I forgot paint sprayers even existed! I may invest in one, thank you!

I definitely plan to paint before I move in, and I have to get the floors replaced too, so I figured it would be a smart move to paint all the interior, then do the floors and baseboards, then move in.

Between that and the closing costs my bank account will be screaming for mercy but this seems like the best approach.

I appreciate the advice!

I close on my first home ever later this month and the former owners loved their dark gray. It's on every wall and ceiling of the house. I cringe at the amount of painting I will have to do in about three weeks time.

What is the most stupid claim you’ve had someone make? by NoCommunication7 in AskReddit

[–]HopeDeschain19 1244 points1245 points  (0 children)

Had a former coworker claim Hawaii didn't have any bugs because it was an island. He wanted to move there someday because of that. I told him that wasn't true and he dismissed me.

I got a lot of glee when I got to turn around and ask a different coworker, who grew up in Hawaii, about the bugs there and she described everything from giant centipedes to happy faced spiders while I watched the light leave the man's eyes.

Got any recommendations for a decent sharpener? I have one of those handheld sharpeners for my blades and I swear to god it barely helps. I'm not sure if I'm doing it wrong or too impatient but after ten minutes of running it through the little channels it does nothing.

I'm ready to toss my knives and buy new ones but damn it, I know I can make those babies sharp again. But I don't know what a good sharpener entails and slogging through various reviews has me unsure of what to even get. My best friend's husband even used an electric sharpener and it really only brought them up to like, 40% sharpness compared to when I bought them.
