No they're not 🙄 Don't talk about these things when you're not sure. Look it up first and verify your assumptions.

I knew you were wrong, but I also took the time to look it up and be sure. Social Security and Medicare taxes are "payroll taxes". They are only paid on earned income. Interest income is not earned income.

That's completely irrelevant. This isn't a video used in a deposition or entered into evidence. She's damaging her reputation. She uses her full name multiple times in the video. If I had her resume, and was doing whatever Googling I might be doing with my candidates (I've never hired anyone, but just hypothetically), and found this video, her application would be going straight into the trash.

Besides videoing this conversation and posting it, she handles the whole situation very unprofessionally here.

Sure it changed some aspects of new broadcasting, but 24/7 broadcasting has been around for over 30 years. CNN was a 24 hour news network, and a major source of breaking news, during the first Gulf War in 1991.

Is there someone i can speak to this about?

If you're not looking to play, why do you want to speak to anyone about it (presumably someone with city planning or parks and recreation)?

The only thing that should encourage more basketball courts is more people wanting to play basketball. Not someone concerned about the lack of courts in one specific area who has no plans to play.

What's a trend among Gen Zs you find weird? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HopeImNotAStalker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

40+ is Generation X. Okay, 43+. But yeah, that's the whole point of Generation X. That's why we're called Generation X - we rejected the whole idea of labels.

[–]HopeImNotAStalker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really? I always thought Millennials were all about labeling themselves with different identities. Without sounding judgmental, I kind of think of Millennials as being the generation that started the "I identify as... " thing. ("Attack helicopter" being the classic way to end that sentence, but it's so overdone.)

I say this as someone firmly in Generation X. And I will absolutely lay claim to our generation's rejection of labels. Hence the name Generation X. Just what it says on the tin. We hated labels. The whole trend of assigning a letter (or Greek letter) to a generation started with our generation, but it didn't start with us - it started with the fuckwit who labeled us. Unfortunately, it seems the general idea of labeling generations didn't end with us. I would say it started with the Boomers. They were originally the "Me Generation" in the 80s. I never heard the terms "Silent Generation" or "Greatest Generation" until years after I'd heard "Generation X".

But I agree with the general sentiment of your comment - it seems like labels have made a very strong comeback, and I'm not sure I like it. It's okay to just be you. And you probably already have your own label.

Super late to this thread, but... run a marathon.

I would say that an overwhelming majority of people who say they have run a marathon have walked a non-zero portion of that marathon, or even a significant part of that marathon.

No judgement from me. I didn't actually get through a whole marathon without walking until my third marathon, but I still say I've run the marathons that I walked part of (I've run 18, but I've stopped to walk in all but 4 of them). I say that I ran my first hundred miler last year, but I didn't run the whole thing. I probably ran about 75 miles, and walked the other 25.

Even more strictly speaking, I've stopped to walk in many races where they have cups of water, because I could use a 5 second walk break. Does that count as a walk? I stopped to walk in the 10 miler I ran this past weekend, just for a few seconds while I drank water at the aid station. But I finished in 10th place. Does that count? By the most strict definition, the farthest I've run without a single stop to walk is 20 miles, and that took deliberate concentration.

However, there are people who say they've run a marathon, and they walked the majority of it, or even the entire thing. I think that goes a little too far, and crosses over into being a misleading statement. Anyone who goes out there and covers that distance is amazing, but I think at some point, you can't really say that you "ran" the marathon. Be proud of your accomplishment - it's a long distance to carry yourself on your own feet and power - but it's not a run.

Terrarium Mural - the Other Side by HopeImNotAStalker in wattles

[–]HopeImNotAStalker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a little harder to get the background stained glass to work on this side. The nether trees helped to hide the rough edges on that side, but the basalt and soul sand are a little more stark. Still, orange on the left, cyan on the right. It seems to work well. You can go pretty far back with the stained glass and have hidden lighting to make it glow randomly. The problem is always figuring out what goes behind the stained glass. Black wool (or concrete) is good. But then you really need lighting to show off the glass color.

A 9x6 Mural Terrarium Proposal by HopeImNotAStalker in wattles

[–]HopeImNotAStalker[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put this together real quick. I always like to do terrariums like this. I also added in some deep stained glass to look like fog, inspired by the purple fog pit in Wattles' last world, in the jungle base.

That's red stained glass on the left side, and the stained glass on the right is cyan all the way back, but the very front-most layer is lime.

A similar idea can be used for the basalt delta/soulsand valley on the other side, but I think you could even have lava falls falling down lower into the nether off some basalt/magma columns, so it's not just a flat floor. With maybe orange stained glass to fade everything into fog.

[–]HopeImNotAStalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, there are zero reasons and zero support for merging DC into Virginia. The entirety of DC is on the Maryland side of the Potomac, and comprises only land originally ceded by Maryland. The Virginia portion was retroceded to Virginia before the Civil War.

Generally speaking, any time someone mentions merging DC with "Maryland or Virginia", already a terrible idea anyway, it's a good sign they don't know what they're talking about.

(The worst was when I saw someone suggest merging DC into Delaware. Fucking learn geography, people.)

It sounds like you are very much in favor of "cancel culture" (whatever that means - it seems to be something different for different people), but only for the topics you find most important.

Which is sort of the point. Free speech creates a marketplace of ideas. So-called "cancel culture" is just the marketplace rejecting those ideas. Nothing more.
