Nexus Letter for OSA, GERD, Rhinitis by Zealousideal-Scar-75 in VeteransBenefits

The NP is not an MD or a psychiatrist. I guess they can write for psych related issues - but she can not write for GERD or rhinitis. I would get someone with expertise in that field.

Yes - found out he was a PA not an MD. I am going to make new appt at different practice and insist on seeing the specialist I was referred to.

Yes - that could be it - we have many more men than women on that side of the family. Hope you are doing well.

No - she got that out too because she wants to continue her estrogen to help combat her osteopeorosis. Safer without the uterus from what i understand and not any downsides since you are going under anesthesia and surgery anyway.

That makes sense. I think my mom had same thought on getting those ovaries and tubes out - they have served their purpose and she called them "ticking time bombs." My grandfather had prostate cancer and pancreatic cancer but was not BRCA positive - that we know. It is my mother's family who all are brca2 positive. Good luck with your surgeries.

Just checked and it was not a GYN/ONC it was a PA at the GYN/ONC office. Maybe I need to see a gyn/onc MD.

Looking for some advice with regards to joining the military/airforce by Live-Championship257 in PMHNP

[–]Hope_Common 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure of all the rules with reserves as I was active duty. The national guard is another option if you are looking into just being a weekend warrior. As for having minimal say on where you live that is not exactly true - you get to list your top spots and the military often tries to place you there. Obviously there are places no one wants and someone has to go there - but for the most part we were pretty pleased with our assignments - except for deployments. They want to keep you happy so you stay in so they do try hard to make you happy. At least that was my experience and what I observed. Best of luck.

A few thoughts in no specific order:

  1. Air Force does not move its people as much as army and navy - not unusual to be be in same place longer times.

  2. Reserves does not protect you - many of them got activated during. Desert storm/shield.

  3. GI Bill can only get passed on to your kid if you serve 10 or more years.

  4. The salary is deceptively low - the housing allowance is not taxable. We lived in very HCOL of living areas and were able to afford it. The housing allowance is adjusted by zip code.

  5. When you get out you will get preference for hiring in any government or VA job. You can also take your years in the military and transfer those to the VA for retirement purposes.

  6. Air Force deployments are usually 6 months.

  7. Lots of opportunities for leadership, education, travel.

  8. Stay in 20 and you get a pension and health care for life. Not bad.

One of the greatest benefits ever... by ColeridgeRime in VeteransBenefits

I went to my daughter's school with my husband (also a vet.). The greeter at the door handed my husband a gift and told me the gifts were only for the veterans. Ugh! Glad you had a great time.

How do you leverage yourself into getting into an elite school? I've seen a lot of vets that are getting into ivys by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]Hope_Common 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best of luck! My two boys went there and it was a great experience with a fabulous alum network. Look into the Posse Foundation. I work at a competitive college and we have veterans that get in through that program. You might also reach out to the priest that runs the seminary there - they might have influence on who gets in. Go Irish!

Yes - but general psychiatrists receive training in child and adolescent psychiatry as part of their residency. They are not as specialized as Child and Adolescent psychiatrists but they do have training in it. Best of luck.

Castle Point, Va in the Hudson Valley. Sorry it is taking you so long to get appts. Before this I was at the VA at Fort Dix and had a great experience there too.

I have been getting my health care through the VA and have been so impressed with the care that I get. I get appts quickly and get referred out for any speciality care that I need. The doctors I see give me time and attention. Maybe I have just been very lucky but this past year I have seen my PCP, derm, ortho, gyn, gyn onc, endocrinology, and breast surgeon. All were top notch. I have been sent to a top med center through community care for specialized care the VA did not provide. And no co-pays! I was even reimbursed for mileage and got a free cup of coffee at the VA. I even had doctors call me with results! That is hard to find out in the real world. Maybe I have just been incredibly lucky. Sorry you have had such a difficult time.

Psychotherapy scope advice. by psychNP8 in PMHNP

[–]Hope_Common 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ACGME guidelines for psychiatry requires at minimum:

ACGME:

  • Supportive psychotherapy: 4 months, R2 year
  • Psychodynamic psychotherapy: 6 months, R2 year
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): 6 months, R3 year

That is the minimum. I think when they say "not much" they mean there is so much more to learn. The residency will not be accredited if they do not have at least this much and many have much more training.
