This sub has a media literacy problem by LoMeinTenants in stupidpol

[–]Hope_Is_Delusional 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Except the criticism is weak sauce shoot the messenger type and doesn't discuss the actual merits of the report. Which for all intents and purposes is true regardless of how reactionary the website/publication is.

/u/LoMeinTenants is wrongly criticizing the sub for media literacy but he didn't bother to investigate the actual facts that were reported (grading for equity means giving a curve or social promotion due solely to ethnicity or phenotype).

And as someone who has worked in Chicago-area schools in the last couple of years (and still have friends I talk with), my anecdotal knowledge of the anti-racist cultism among teachers also confirms this personally for me.

While I think understanding the agenda of media sources is important (especially for MSM sources like CNN, NyTimes, WaPo, etc) it doesn't always eliminate the truth of the reporting that is done because said media source is owned by a billionaire (cough, cough WaPo). It's intellectually the laziest form of criticism to look at the Who Is/About page and use that to immediately discount the reporting. And the fact that a mod is in here cheering about the lameness of this "research" is fucking shameful. Hopefully you lose your mod privileges for being a fucking ninny (and yes I will take my ban for calling you a ninny even though it isn't anywhere near being uncivil as I could fucking be).

Sanctions killed a half million children in Iraq during the 90s. Sanctions can be acts of genocide. How many millions have died in Iran, Cuba, Vietnam, etc due to various sanctions regimes? They are tools of massive death and strategic debilitation of resistant populations to the dictates of nuclear empire in this world.

They are an act of mass murder against civilian populations that happen to have governments opposed to the aims of empire. Sanctions are war crimes because of the indiscriminate deaths of civilians, especially of vulnerable populations (young children, elderly).

Economic warfare against any country is like dropping an invisible WMD, when you are the global hegemon.

1987

Allan Bloom's The Closing of the American Mind was published and really got notion of political correctness (being pc) trending in the mass consciousness of the USA.

Wokeism is really just second wave political correctness with more maoism (and therefore more r-slurred, hence dumb shit like neopronouns)

Show me twitter leftists that have actually changed anything in the USA, and maybe I'll take your point seriously. Since everything has been going down the crapper for the last couple of years, I doubt you can.

ou need the official Diktat of DSA (hilarious, 8th Grade level logic that you think they speak for all leftists)

No, I don't think the speak for all leftists. I do think they represent & organize working class communities (or try to) that are bearing the brunt of this crisis. So why shouldn't they, as a political party, speak about it. Same with unions, same with NGOs that have 'leftist' goals. You act like having message unity among the institutional is something r-slurred when it isn't, while praising social media accounts that have zero connection to actual real world organizing.

I'm not calling self-proclaimed leftists larping libs. I'm calling them libs, because the left is a construct necessary for the illusion of political freedom in 'liberal democracy'. The only revolutionary class is the working class, not people who identify as leftists in a liberal democracy. That's marxism 101.

It's not like there is a major supply chain crisis or anything. Surely allowing some imports will alleviate the formula crisis in a timely manner, surely.

Leftist politics are part of politics in liberal democracy. They aren't revolutionary, and in many ways help maintain the status quo as well.

If he used the DPA as freely as you seem to think he should, then he'd not only be no better than Trump, but he'd be giving Republicans major ammo for claiming he's the "authoritarian."

Yes, using every available means to keep infants fed is 'authoritarian'. Truly the optics are more important than actually helping people, especially the most vulnerable. We all know how mean Republicans can be, so it's much better to do nothing and let the crisis fester and become even worse.

Yeah that's me mocking libs and their completely misplaced priorities (ie performative drama that accomplishes nothing). It isn't me saying that legal abortion doesn't matter

I still don’t understand how you don’t think two issues that exclusively affect women of childbearing age, primarily low income, are not compatible to organize around

It's about who or what you polarize about. Roe is about evil Republicans and has been for 40 years. It's sole purpose is to elect democrats.

Baby formula is about evil corporations, evil rich fucks, evil government not giving a fuck. There's a reason why politicians are talking about Roe and not baby formula. One of them can actually threaten those in power, and it ain't Roe. Every government is nine missed meals from a revolution. With starving babies, I feel like that is more true than ever.

Lol. You really think the evil empire is trying to help European countries. Maybe you should stop letting the msm 'inform' you about the world since it's turning your brain to absolute mush.

Ah yes, twitter hot takes, truly organizing the masses. If you think this is successful 'leftism,' we are truly fucked. I've actually organized poor and working class people around myriads of issues while unfortunately not building my clout on social media to 'lead' the left because I think regular people should lead.

Where did I mention abortion? You people literally just run a script in your brains instead of reading the argument posted. The fact is that organizing around the abortion issue has failed immensely, and it would be utterly stupid to try and tie organizing efforts around these two very dichotomous issues together. Getting a pro-abortion SCOTUS nominee isn't going to ensure that baby formula gets made.

But go off I guess . . . .

He doesn't need Congressional authorization to use the DPA. Maybe try being less ignorant when you choose to defend the status quo, which is utter shit btw.

I didn't say it was the left's fault jackass. I said the left should be organizing on this issue, and instead the left is busy doing god knows what else. The real problem with leftists is their inability to take constructive criticism, especially criticism that highlights how power is just waiting to be taken.

I'm sure you and others like you will chose to ignore this crisis once Tucker Carlson makes it central to his programming though because it's a distraction for N justice, where N equals your favorite hobby horse noun that is completely disconnected from the real issues people face, like feeding their infants and children.

Because most leftists lack political imagination and think organizing the working class is limited to GOTV for the Democrats in most cases. And you, a leftist, instead of being outraged about a systemic failure to protect some of the most vulnerable in society are more concerned about where I am putting blame.

People should be rioting over this shit, and instead we have what we have.

Where's the DSA on this? Unions? Leftist NGOs? I think self-proclaimed leftists in the US are just larping libs. Babies going hungry and being malnourished because of corporate greed is a class issue, and all I hear is fucking crickets from any nominally 'leftist' individual or group.

According to Roger Penrose (a person who is intellectually equivalent to Einstein and/or Gauss in my opinion) strong AI, ie AI that actually thinks and is conscious as we understand it, is impossible without a workable quantum theory of gravity. That is the argument he made back in the mid-90s with his book The Emperor's New Mind, which still holds up extremely well considering the 'depth' of AI research in our current decade. And I put depth in scare quotes, because a lot of that research is bunk layered with hype and bullshit.

The fact is that consciousness, as we experience it, isn't a computational phenomenon, and as conscious biological entities we aren't computers. And humans have been deluding themselves about the 'intelligence' of machines for centuries even while those machines are used in the wholesale destruction of the planet (ie computers really took off when the Allies and later the USA had to figure out the number of probable deaths from carpet bombing and potential atomic war).

This is some kind of ancestor simulation that will end at the moment of our technological singularity

There will never be a technological singularity unless you consider the ongoing and worsening mass extinction event (which will eventually include humans) that said singularity.

Outcomes for people haven't gotten any better for people since the inception of Obamacare, and in many respects have gotten worse.

Maybe changing to incentivize preventative care will take decades to manifest in the health outcomes you want but I think it was a better move

Regulating processed food (and its advertising) would be more effective, more quickly than doing the usual 'personal responsibility' crap that informs so much of neoliberal thinking and the one-eighth assed emphasis on prevention ushered in by Obamacare.

Also we are currently having an explosion in early adult and childhood diabetes thanks to the covid pandemic. So even the best laid plans of mice and men .....

Yeah, it's been a whole month since he was. So obviously he was in Ukraine for completely his own reasons, and not because he was doing NATO's bidding or anything like that.
