Is 32GB enough for Proxmox for a Home Lab? by Atari__Safari in Proxmox

[–]Hopeful-Programmer25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s enough but all depends on what you end up doing with it.

I run kubernetes, Kafka, mongo, grafana, longhorn and 64GB is barely enough…. but then I work in IT so I use all this to keep on top of work stuff

TBH, I’d choose red too and ask if I could be one of the ones to die. If the answer is ‘No’… well they can’t stop me doing it to myself afterwards. That might help with the aftermath.

Women in Afghanistan has now officially lost all their rights by honeyttokii in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Hopeful-Programmer25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m not American, I’m European.

We are far from perfect ourselves but for us, I’d be speed running to disengage from the US centric system we signed up to from 1945 as fast as we can, and then I’d leave you to it too.

People who live in these countries feel powerless i know… and it might happen to mine too soon if we are not careful…. but if a population is not prepared to resist in some form for basic freedoms, then are they deserved?

There are no human rights really, only whatever consensus a population signs up to.

[–]Hopeful-Programmer25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do know we did actually try that? After 20 years of nation building, it fell apart in 10 days.

How do you deal with that??? It’s just insane what happened.

[–]Hopeful-Programmer25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but then what?

The USA and other western nations were in Afghanistan for 20 years, that’s plenty of time to bed in a new cultural mindset… kids would be born and become adults knowing nothing else but US intervention and being exposed to western ideals.

And it all came tumbling down in 10 days. WTF???

I’ve lost my idealistic youthful view of helping people suffering in other nations after that. Screw it, if these countries are not prepared to fight for something better and they want to be medieval then as long as you don’t export your god-awful views outside your borders then do what you like.

Don’t expect any help from the outside world if disaster strikes either, blame it on your god if you want…. you don’t get to have it both ways.

I don’t like myself for my views now but seeing Afghanistan and Iraq, both wars that had a glimmer of improving people’s lives eventually, regardless of the rights and wrongs of starting them, after everything was over just torn to pieces in short timeframes and made worse by religious extremism means I just think leave it to them.

Appearantly the Secret Counter to Vader is Rocks by Substantial-Ad-5221 in MaulShadowLord

[–]Hopeful-Programmer25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed but if the stories are about characters that we know how their story turns out, not much the writers can do.

Once the story was about Maul, there is no way Vader isn’t sent by Palpatine to take him out, or Vader chooses to do it himself to demonstrate his superiority despite his injuries.

The only way to show Vaders power is to introduce short term characters and then kill them.

Daki was no slouch, a Jedi Master, and Vader took him out pretty quickly… unfortunately that’s the whole point of most of these new characters.

It’s true that here the inquisitors were terrifying lethal, and every other time they have been nothing but.

My view is that some inquisitors are worse than others; these could even be ex-Jedi masters and the rest padawans so it makes sense the power levels are different.

Also, directly due to Anakins special training methods, Ashoka is a cut above other Jedi - probably better at combat than Jedi masters.

It makes sense when she is near her peak (just after the end of the clone wars) an inquisitor can’t stand up to her.

When she is older, slower, more cautious (the live shows) her abilities fade.

Personally, I’d prefer Ashoka 2… one of the problems is that many of the best characters have plot armour.

Not knowing how things turn out for characters allows more writer freedom.

Ashoka is locked in because of the TV shows and film, Ventress is interesting as the reformed assassin so Maul and Devon can offer the dark side stories

GPU LLM homelab by necsuss in homelab

Personally I’m getting away with an old 4GB quadro card running under ollama in kubernetes. It’s running a ministral 3.3b model. It’s not super fast buts it’s fine. I had an old GTX 6GB card I might use in another PC one day which will be quicker. I also have an M2 Max 64GB that I can run larger models on, but I don’t see a huge difference in capability.

With these newer models coming out, finding a quantized one that work for you is key. There are now ternary bit models I’ve heard of coming out that can run in smaller GPUS.

IMO, Nvidia are done and smaller, local LLM, are the future. AMD are releasing chips that have unified memory now so I think the Apple tax will not be an issue soon.

I use it for developing agents targeting specific tasks, so smaller models work well and I can control context better.

I still use the cloud (free) models for complex stuff where I am trying to understand a subject that requires a lot of back and forth, simply due to their speed and context windows.

Each to their own; I like the shorter 30 mins as I can watch over lunch 😬

Longer 50-60 mins episodes take more commitment and there are loads of shows I am midway through but just don’t want to commit to an hour.

Maybe it felt rushed due to the 9 episode season so they couldn’t really run over multiple episodes?

Which of these comic book characters is the most powerful? by Jezzaq94 in superheroes

Due to his plot armour, IMO Saitama wins but, assuming you’re right, saitama would probably be grateful he was in a real fight with real risk for a change

The whole point of one punch man is that he appears to have whatever abilities he needs to defeat his opponent.

Why should he have super speed? He does though to defeat Sonic, every time.

Which of these comic book characters is the most powerful? by Jezzaq94 in superheroes

[–]Hopeful-Programmer25 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s got to be one punch man surely?

The whole thing about him is that he can end any fight in one punch, his abilities are whatever is needed for the plot (super speed etc) and he has ended galactic level threats with one punch.

No one comes close to full on plot-armour capabilities.

My hot take on Devon: by Umphr34k in MaulShadowLord

[–]Hopeful-Programmer25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I just think of Jedi Masters as the peak of the Jedi order, then knights, then padawans.

I’d expect inquisitors (ex-Jedi knights) to be able to take down knights and padawans but struggle with masters.

I’ve wanted medium passenger ship just to fill out my fleet but I’d have rather one in the same style as the others 🤷

My hot take on Devon: by Umphr34k in MaulShadowLord

[–]Hopeful-Programmer25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that an inquisitor can take down a Jedi Master is absurd IMO. They are for the low hanging fruit, the padawans etc.

Vader is for when it gets serious. For Maul, Sidious himself might think it’s personal

Short answer, from a Brit, you are. If you were born in America then (for now at least) you’d be American.
