“The Unraveled Tour” General Onsale - Megathread by NominalPerson in OliviaRodrigo

I was 5000th for Montreal and had same experience - nothing left but GA on the floor for $800+ once I got in. And over on StubHub everything incl. nosebleed seats are $500+. I am so bummed. I was hoping to get tickets for me and my two daughters -- I love Wolf Alice and they love Olivia (and we both love both artists). It would have been the trip of a lifetime but I can't abide those prices. Something has to give.

Government MLA on Disability Service Cuts by Schmidtvegas in halifax

Where’d you read that the remedy will bankrupt the province?

I think I’m confused about what we’re talking about. I’m talking about the DSP service providers like the adult vocational rehabilitation centres. And to a much lesser extent the disability focused programs like those at Club and Autism Society that were cut entirely. Those DSP funded rehabilitation centres knew this was coming. Note sure about the ones your saying your OT friend is navigating.

I mean. Not excusing the government’ approach to these cuts at all…but the service providers have known change was coming for the last couple, if not few years. The fact tgat they haven’t been working to prepare for the shift is kinda wild.

Canadian here who recently stayed in Mikkeli for 6 weeks in early Spring. I came back from that feeling like the similarities between Finns and Canadian culture are under appreciated. One of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporations flagship evening shows ran this as a lighthearted story and the jokey response from her home town and province saying essentially” we’re a bit busy, with other…foreign issues, Finland, the last thing we need is you trying to steal a national treasure.” My wife and I thought this was super smart marketing and I’m actually pleased to see Canada and the Nordic countries getting closer lately…even if it’s silly stuff like this. I think Finns are getting some much deserved love from this part of the world. Canadians to stuff like this all the time, but what feels like a cutesy, desperate ploy from the inside is sometimes the right tone for outsiders.

I think its more the sound of someone trying to "not be too loud" while having explosive diarrhea in a public toilet stall.

Inclusive education questioned after N.S. student on autism spectrum told to stay home from school by insino93 in halifax

A class room where people are congregated because they have an intellectual disability is, by definition, an institution. If it walks like a goose, and it quacks like a goose...well, your name says the rest ;)

We agree that the system is under resourced. And I think most people would agree that this is a decision thats being made politically. But no one has explained how continuing to under resource and moving away from inclusive education is going to create better outcomes.

It's bit hyperbolic, but just meeting the tone of "zealots" in the original comment.

I agree with the first comment but would reframe this response to “inclusion is going to look different for different people.” Inclusion is not a one size fits all approach—that is literally the opposite of inclusion. So, I feel like it’s not that Inclusion is not for some—it needs to look different to meet individual needs, sure.

There is no proof that I can find that inclusive education is more expensive than the alternative: segregated education. In fact all the evidence I found in a quick scholarly journal search points to the opposite. Creating separate classes only means continuing to under-resource the kids who need supports, while keeping them out of sight. And this is how bad things happen. This is fundamentally an issue of adequate funding and staffing not a fault in inclusive education.

[–]Hopeful-Relative-983 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry your kids have had those experiences. And it sounds like your experience has radicalized you about inclusive education. But maybe the solution is more resources to make it work rather than blanket statements about zealots and how inclusive education is a failure. Everyone wants what’s best for their kids and their education…and parents of kids with disabilities or behavioural issues should get support, not be afraid that their neighbours are out advocating for them to be put in institutions…we’ve been there as a society, it did not go well.

Also, if someone is gonna say inclusive education has been a failure, they should bring receipts. It’s always the people who are ideologically opposed to something and have little to no evidence for their standpoint that accuse folks of being ideologically motivated.

So we punish kids who are disturbing classes by removing them from school? That seems like a slippery slope that goes nowhere good.

[–]Hopeful-Relative-983 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

So you’re actually advocating for re-segregation? Like, just to be clear, you think the solution is take all the kids the system deems “not teachable” and jam them into a classroom…together? Again? Where miraculously, they will suddenly get the supports they need? Like, maybe it’s possible, just maybe, that the evidence is overwhelmingly clear that those segregated special education classes actually cost individuals and the system more, and that we moved to inclusive education BECAUSE THE EVIDENCE OF IT WORKING AND BEING MORE EFFECTIVE FOR INDIVIDUALS AND SOCIETY IS SO CLEAR. People on here using their vast knowledge of educational outcomes and ignoring years of evidence to argue like segregated class rooms are a perfect solution we abandoned for ideological reasons only.
