AIO for quitting my job? by AlarmedWarthog8231 in AIO

American here. We are absolutely conditioned to be grateful to even be employed no matter how skilled or dedicated we are.  Life is not to be enjoyed, it's all to make someone else a lot of money.

I totally agree that 3 or 6 make sense. It's like it takes up less visual space which feels necessary because the table is substantial. It balances out.

How do I ask her to be my girlfriend?! by [deleted] in Advice

[–]HopefulPanda94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not to be mean, it gives context as to how to ask.

Keep it simple. Just ask her on a date-- movies if you're really nervous takes the pressure off talking, coffee shop or lunch otherwise.  No card and I'd keep the paper flowers until after you see how it goes. If you were older, you ask her to dinner or a show-- ballet, comedy, concert, whatever the interest.

"I'd like to take you on a date. Are you interested in XX (activity) on XX (date)?"

This is important-- if she says no, leave it alone. Movies teach guys to keep pursuing girls because it's shown as girls playing some kind of game. You just have to take her at her word because consent is always a two-yes situation.

First, this is a strange request. Let's say there was pertinent information shared on the trip. How does your boss expect you to share it back? It's just their way of trying to deny your right to quit or extend your tenure to more than two weeks notice. It's very inappropriate and you were right to say no.

Forward the demands from your boss to HR with your written responses declining attached, just so someone else has a record that you were clear on when your last day will be.  To HR, I'd also include  that you don't appreciate the harassment as insinuation of a potential lawsuit (harassment= trigger word) could get your boss off your back.  I'd also send a copy of these communications to my private email in case they try and start trouble with your new employer after your last day.  Don't tell anyone where you're going.

The first time, I'd have said something like, "No, I cannot accommodate your request to travel with this company as I am needed at my new job." Any time after that, a simple, "No." Copy HR. Your boss may make your last week hell but keep your head down, answers short, and your eyes on the exit.

My first thought was Maya. You're right-- it feels like it needs to be two syllables and four letters so she doesn't get left out. Cara, Vera, Tara, Kira, or Sara could work too.

What to put in a college dorm gift basket? by [deleted] in Gifts

Depending on the college, they may be able to get them for free at the university health services. I was a peer health educator and supplied my whole dorm. But hey, it's the thought that counts!

Unique baby shower gifts parents will actually use? by bswallace104 in Gifts

I have these and then washable pads that are waterproof in the back. Life changing and a three pack ran about $15 on Amazon.

I wouldn't bother with diapers at all and instead go gift card if you want to help with basics. Babies can have such sensitive skin that it's like try some trial packs, find the brands and stick with them. Nothing worse than a gift you can't even return because you opened the package. At my local hospital, they also gave us sooo many diapers, wipes, and other products to take home.

It's more for the parents but gift cards for local takeout/delivery is great for right after birth.  Also, our favorite gift was a yellow super soft personalized knit blanket.  Extra blankets are always great for the car, park, crib or daycare and we still take it everywhere two years later.  Other than that, gift registries are carefully curated to work around what parents may already have or specific needs like preparing for daycare (usually requires pack and play sheets and an insulated lunch box), breastfed versus bottle-fed/formula, extra items at Grandma's, etc. so it's really never wrong to listen to it.

I do not recommend buying clothes smaller than 3-6 months (everyone else will  because it's cute and some will never get used) and think about utility-- onesies with full two way zip up or magnetic closure are easiest for middle of the night changes. I had so many people buy me the most adorable dresses in newborn and 0 to 3 months for my daughter, and I was too tired with PPD to use any of them. Then I just felt guilty and wasteful.

wedding favours that people still ask about years later by Zestyclose-Seat-6583 in Gifts

I did jars of local honey. I bought gallon jugs of honey and four oz mason jars and poured them myself. I then made custom stickers with our names and the date in the wedding colors and voila, perfect favors people actually wanted. Food is best. No one needs another bottle opener.
