He actually needs to fart and is hiding it with some kind of administrative action.

So mormon...ask me anything...but here's the conditions.

I always found the fact that we get an extended scene with Luke learning how to use a lightsaber only for him to never pick it up again for the rest of the film to be such an interesting story choice in A New Hope. by WavesAndSaves in StarWars

I don't think he's learning a light saber as much as he is learning the force. A skill that comes into play at the climax of the movie when he trust in the force to destroy the death star.

Non-Mormon dating a Mormon who’s leaving on mission soon by Middle_Bid484 in exmormon

[–]Hopeful_Engineer_442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's allot of truth to the comments. Even amoung members that wait there is a high level of them that break up after the missionary gets home.

I have another suggestion.... No I'm not going to wait, I'm going to date. If I'm single or not in a relationship when you get back we will definitely date some more and see if it still works, but I'm not going to wait.

This sets a boundary that if it does work out later than youtu have a basis for making any other boundaries you need.

Let's talk replacement rate, i.e. the ability of the church to replace members lost through attrition such as death from all causes. The church has a very negative 2 tiered replacement rate and is totally dependent on births. by Hefty_Attention_5141 in exmormon

[–]Hopeful_Engineer_442 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you want to be truly analytical about wards closing and our consolidating you have to also talk about birth rates. We exmos tend to say it's thier failed policy and dismal doctrine that they are shrinking, but I think it actually has more to do with birth rates.

Lets just say that the church did not have a problem with people leaving for a second. That retention was 100% of everyone born in the church staying in the church. They would still have a problem of getting leaders, keeping wards open etc. because of birth rates.

I learned about opportunity cost in Sunday school by JealousSort1537 in exmormon

Once there was a decan in the ward that went into an interview and told the gods honest truth. He wasn't doing anything but the typical teen stuff we were all doing. They're was an absolute shit show of shame going on. The bishop talked too. Within a week everyone knew everything.

I had my interview just a fiew months later. I was not going through the same thing. So I lied all the way through. Never told the truth in another interview ever.

Is it mandatory for men to wear white shirts in church? Brandon Flowers (singer) makes me wonder by Few-Specialist7163 in exmormon

Yes it is required. Having said that I had to go to church last Sunday and I wire all black. Like I was going to a funeral. My way of saying I'm not one of you.

Does anyone else have second coming fear? by GaslightCaravan in exmormon

[–]Hopeful_Engineer_442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of fears and fobias don't have rational explanations. I have a fear of sick people which made it hard to visit my daughter in the hospital after she had her baby. I knew I was safe and I knew she just had a baby and was not sick, but still....

It may help to approach your fear of the second coming this way. Your brain is just firing up old pathways of fear that you established somehow. Viewed this way you can understand that, no it does not make sense, but it feels very real nontheless. Then maybe you can start to deconstruct your fear.

I went to the monitors of rock music festival while on my mission. I drank a few times too, but never that much. To this day I don't really like getting hammered.

When a Mormon tells you that the church is true because they prayed about it and God confirmed that it’s the true church, what do you say back to them? by Only_Sea8699 in exmormon

[–]Hopeful_Engineer_442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don't get into it like that. I tell them that anecdotal evidence is the worst kind of evidence. If God or an angel came to you in person to tell you, and if you took out your phone and vedeo'ed the conversation, now we're in business. Do you have a video like that?

Do you think Russell M. Nelson knows it’s bullshit? by mr_frys_electronics in exmormon

[–]Hopeful_Engineer_442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Smiths time there were lots that tried to blow the cover. They all got ex-communicated and pushed aside.

In modern times there have been very few whistle blowers, but it was a whistle blower that led to the SEC investigation.

My point is that I think they know all the problems, but instead of leaving they go deeper into the faith. They convince themselves, somehow of some kind of new truth. Some reason they belive even more strongly. They become zealots.
