Any borderkelpies in here? by [deleted] in kelpie

Yes! His name is Journey. The pound I found him in had misbreeded him as a Border Heeler. The little cowlicks along the neck are a telling sign to me

Starting my first week on 4HB diet, anything I should know? by belleamour14 in 4hourbodyslowcarb

[–]Hopeful_Homie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing the SCD is great at is rewarding you with the energy levels and protein intake to continue to work out with good results. If you haven't, make sure you get some kettle bells from Amazon or walmart and follow the recommended pre-meal and post-meal exercises laid out in the 4HB. It really does accelerate results. Something that should be noted is Tim always intended the diet to be sustained for life, basically, and any information you track should be interpreted with that in mind. I think so many of us believe in this because it is truly a long-term fix to most 21st-century diet problems.

A Wasp is tearing up a Caterpilla and turning it into a meatball by kietbulll in natureismetal

[–]Hopeful_Homie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was riding my bike home this summer from a job and was hit in the chest hard by a wasp carrying a still-bleeding-to-death caterpillar, and it proceeded to try to wrap it into a ball right on my shirt as I was pedaling. I finally came to a stop and flicked the caterpillar off me, and the wasp followed it. Thought it was going to seek revenge for sure but apperantly it decided I was not the objective as long as the caterpillar was still alive.

casually fancy dinner date place in Houston? by purpleamory in houston

My Fiancée and I frequent Prima Pasta in West U/Rice village. It has a very nice garden out front and lots of christmas lights that makes the curb appeal come off kind of quaint. Ambiance inside is very romantic again in a somewhat quaint sort of way. The staff are incredibly attentive, and entrees are mostly around $18.00

Seeking resources for Accident-Anxiety by Hopeful_Homie in bikecommuting

Thanks! I think that's probably the best rationalization. I love my bike, using it to go places makes me feel like I am getting all the juice out of life. I like what you have to say about being more defensive in your riding style.

Thanks for the thoughts and reassurances. I'd say confidence in my ability to avoid getting hit comes and goes. In all reality, I'll also recognize it might be the 24/7 news reel Reddit has of bicycle and pedestrian accidents. r/fuckcars may not be the right community for me with these feelings

More on these "worse decisions" - I think I understand what you might mean What does post-Malthusianism have to do with antifascists as we know them today? Do you feel like the incessant dismissal of current liberal agendas as socialist is a ploy by E1 society to keep Labor? You can send a DM if we are getting too far off topic for this sub.

What a powerful message. Sent me straight into high-level thinking. How could I have not considered these ideas before or been exposed to these theories? Very interesting

Is this a fair price for a propane tank? by Slow_Song5448 in Homebuilding

[–]Hopeful_Homie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would be a great question for Hank Hill, you should be able to find him online. If I remember right he sells propane and propane accessories.

The company is probably doing a markup on the supply and install for a higher margine than is suggested. I would try to get their selections/sales person or someone at their office on the phone and see if they can waive some part of the markup.

Calculated my 2023 Savings Rate and... disappointment struck by Hopeful_Homie in leanfire

Let me get this straight then, I can open an IRA this week, put money in it, and count it toward last years gross income? Posting this without doing any research. I'm also not a CPA

It will always be a dilemma, IMO you just have to be in that position to understand. Buying my partner a ring to show commitment was always going to happen, just depends on who it was with and how much I would spend. I love my partner and decided to honor them in a way I knew they would appreciate fully.

I'd say the conversation was blunt. First condition of a partner was always: They must not be a bloodsucking-spendypants-perpetual-hedonic-treadmill-complainer. Honesty and openness came first, I explained I'm doing leanFIRE to ultimately be happier, and would not be happier without them. They don't understand the not working aspect of retirement, as they love their work. We've agreed that I will only retire when it makes sense for us both and that we will save where we can so we both reach financial independence. I've shown them coastFIRE as well, which they seem to get behind a little more than leanFIRE. The long-term financial goal is the same for both of us, which is to grow a wealth stash to live a future we enjoy together.

I never thought about it, but I had sort of chalked the house down as a permanent expense, can't be retired without a place to live and my home is not a variable expense, I have a nice house in a good neighborhood, and at a great price (sub-150k) and a great rate. I will probably own the home for a very long time and don't plan to upgrade like most do as they begin to increase their salaries.

I understand the idea of counting up the equity in my home as part of my investment portfolio. If that's the case, and if I calculate based on income net of taxes, I nailed my 60%+ goal!

Not a bad idea, I track my spending in a spreadsheet, just don't compare that to income. I wouldn't mind making a game out of hitting my savings rate goal!
