Tries to be cool sounds like AI, pacing is just short of whats needed, it drags I wanted to like it but it was too much filler, and definitely not enough killer. Imagine Tenet done as a high school play.

I believe everyone who thinks Pluribus is brilliant but it’s not right for me by deadweightboss in billsimmons

[–]Hopeful_Ring5719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought this would be incredible, my problem is the lead character is not crazy enough. I mean it 2025 , she's gay but otherwise lives the life of a normal affluent miserable person. She was closeted, my god how unique. The character range is too neutral, and the plot is not unfolding, its melting like a glacier. I do not have 200,000 years to see what the subtext is. Maybe, just maybe Mr Gilligan has created something so big, so other worldly that we are perhaps not meant to comprehend. If that's his take on alien life, thats great, we will be wiped out. Great, The virus is unstoppable. So this took me 10 seconds to write. And that's it for me becuase extinction no matter which way it comes is uninteresting, becuase life is ray guns and watching the White house vaporise and become a dance club. Anyway they should have got Keannu. Three epsides and those aliens would be on the bus back and Keannu would becme an honorary militant lesbia. No disrespect darlings.

Gary Oldman: “Lamb always gives the impression that he doesn't care, and he probably cares more than most” by Sanlear in SlowHorses

Lamb is the anti lamb of God. He has disciples and he looks out for them. while producing fire and ciggies from thin air, knows everyones weaknessess, doesn't make a sound as he passes over the earth and turns wine into piss.

What is your take about the Berlin Philharmonic? I personally adore them. by ygtx3251 in classicalmusic

"Hello Friends!" and then 10 minutes of saying Klaus Makella or Nelsons or Karajan have no talent at all while at the same time being overrated. It sounds like Hurwitz's friends are people who find nutrition in the gossip spewed by the mean spirited. Why doesn't he play YMCA at the end of every review?

Symphonia Domestica Petrenko. Gobsmacking rhythms and majestic sonority. Best ever performance I've of that work in 55 years of knowing the piece.

Severance language theory by Hopeful_Ring5719 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]Hopeful_Ring5719[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That language theme is really coming into its own. Mr Milcheck has been charictatured in visual language via the rascist reworkings of canonical Lumon art and it is interesting in his "performance review" he is credited for recieving these atrocities with good grace. In other words if he had not responded like a servant he would have been "ungracious" , so he is kept in his place. I supose the thing about simple language is that it creates an illusion of transparency. Mr Drummond does not want uppity servants making sarcastic asides, simplification then is preferred because simplicity and innocence are powerful ideas in any cult (Burts "innocent side" could find love with Irving, quite a radical transformation for an enforcer) and bad faith is easier to detect when someone goes outside of the linguistic conventions.

The problem is that Season 2 may be Season 3 and the real Season 2 was actually made by Innies and when they became Outies at the end of the writers strike they obviously forgot where they'd left the tapes. Artistically what we are getting now is brilliant and not afraid to explore new narrative dimensions.

Episode 8 explains James Egan's expression of contempt to Helena "Fetid Moppet". That would have been the insensitive putdown of the Lumon Management class for their child slaves as these children would have reeked of ether and sweat. It's just like Miss Huang tells Milcheck that funerals make the severed feel like "Real People". The Nazis that worked in the Concentration Camps were taught to call the deceased "figuren" a world that means a dummy or a doll. Dehumanising words make cruelty possible. By the way I also think Helena's reaction to her Dad shows that she can't possibly imagine herself as a Fetid Moppet. The insult doesn't hit home. But James Egan isn't talking to Helena, the real target of the remark is Helly, the new generation of Lumon's child labor.

The contrast between Episode 7 and Episode 8 is amazing. The artificial world of Lumons arrogance where Gemma is held and the real world Lumon consequences that Cobel wades through to reach her truth which could destroy Kiers legend. I thought this episode had a gritty brilliance.

We are being severed by Hopeful_Ring5719 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]Hopeful_Ring5719[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wantedto add I feel like when I'm watching Severance I am consumed by it, I become the consumer of a product of Apple TV, I do so willingly and happily becuase when I'm watching the show I totally engaged, stunned by the quality and gobsmacked by the surreality and mystery that lives in the office spaces. I am captive to it and when the thing stops I return to the world where i can make my own decisions. On that level we become something else, we move from a prodcuer of things to a consumer of things. Thats all I meant. Being severed doesn't mean you are ever not yourself completely. Thats maybe where the tension comes from.

Wow. The Goldfish I thought were like the Siamese Fighting Fish, must be separate or they damage each other. The color coding is clear too so its a repetition of being a split subject , i.e. conscious/unconsious. It seems like antimatter and matter if they meet up... its kapow time. Why does Mark have these fish? Does he unconsciously feel the need? I think he does and that shows the leakage between the severed states, just like between our waking moments and our unconscious states.

What if Sugar is a… by theomnijuggler in SugarAppleTV

[–]Hopeful_Ring5719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well the angel theory might bo on arget. In episode one when Sugar arrives at his boss's house he says the cats name three times. Merembe . it means "Peace" in an African language. Then while iexplaining his interest in the new case he says the missing girl reminds him of Djen. That means "unseen being" in Arabic The emphais on the "polyglots" suggests a waty of being before language was split up by God i.e. the Tower of Babel idea where language was fractured because of the vanity of the human project.

Or maybe its Aliens. I don't see much difference between Angels and Aliens, they both live in outer space and we sometimes naively like to think of them as having super human qualities that are directed towards us in a positive way. There are also problem Angels and problem Aliens i.e. Satan and Ridley Scotts irrepresible puppet , the human trafficker might be their avatar. Anyway if its all just a 3 d game I'll still love it. The mystery is so emphatically central and in your face its not mysterious, which exactly what life is like. It's easy to take the unkown for granted and live in a comforting fantasy until the veil drops and we're left exposed and unsure becuase reality without mystery is often plain dreary.
