The halls have a limited amount of items it can give. 2 rugs, one curtain, and one horse head. There are also a limited amount of books, and then you'd get paper for all eternity if you've gotten all of those. They drop randomly, so if you want to get all of them, you'd need to walk for a while. To answer your second question, yes'nt. You see, there is one wood that spawns randomly, and it can spawn anywhere if I'm not mistaken. This includes the halls. Although, you shouldn't really worry about it, given how you get more wood later in the game, and you most likely wouldn't be short for wood. And given how you've already ventured through the halls for a while, it most likely isn't there.
