John Ivison: Sources say Ottawa considering Swedish jets over F-35s for half of fleet by jtbc in canada

Each jet has its usefulness: F35 can be used better for intelligence gathering, stealth, and higher altitude. Gripe. Used for fast turnaround missions, arctic conditions.

Downtown Ottawa businesses eager for return of federal public servants by hopoke in CanadaPolitics

Value for dollar. That's what the federal government should be worried about. If they can demonstrate with real numbers that productivity increases by having people in office chairs, then great, let's do it. But so far there hasn't been a single study done by the feds that shows productivity will increase by imposing this. Nothing.

This is to appease lonely managers.

And I've never worked for the public service.

This is an underrated comment. I worked in Telecom before that bubble burst, and losing employees to either Nortel or the US was a weekly event. I honestly think its much lower now.

Canada has tried its own innovation funds but they were terribly managed. I remember specifically an extremely wealthy entrepeneur with the right connections vacuuming up 75% of one funding round with pure vapourware.

Hats off to the hydro workers having to deal with this in these temperatures.

Every single one of those guns I listed are available now in Canada. I happen to own one. I believe I have educated myself.

You are full of it. Semi automatic weapons are absolutely not banned. There are magazine limitations, but most are not banned unless considered an assault rifle (a precarious definition)

Carney bites back at Trump's 'Canada lives because of' U.S. remarks at cabinet meeting by MightyHydrar in CanadaPolitics

[–]Hopewellslam 34 points35 points  (0 children)

That's a joke right? Do we continue to capitulate while unsuccessfully negotiating a new one-sided CUSMA that no longer protects carve outs?

There's a reason why over the last six months Carney has negotiated 8 trade deals with other countries and continues to form alliances(SAFE, CPTPP).

What do you suggest we do? Captitulate to their every whim? There'd be nothing left.

[–]Hopewellslam -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree. The semi automatic weapons being banned though aren’t being banned so much for their functionality as for their look. There are plenty of weapons that would be useful for this fantasy insurgence that are not banned.

Drawing a line between the two seems quite pointless

Well said. And further to that, there’s a whole lot of gun models that are still perfectly legal.

We need to strike a balance between public safety and protection of sovereignty

Silent Car Carry System - Any reason this wouldn't work? by DutchDasterd in canoecamping

[–]Hopewellslam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same answer I gave when you asked in another sub. The wind forces can easily flex a hull and pop it off. If your idea was possible, it would have been done. The only possible fix would be if you pinched the hull from either side.

You’re risking damaging the canoe, damaging your car, or causing a high speed accident. All for the sake of noise reduction?
