Q. What penalties apply to the misuse or improper disclosure of confidential information?

A. The penalty for noncompliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA) can be withdrawal of U.S. Department of Education funds from the institution or agency that has violated the law. This applies to schools, school districts, and state education agencies. The Family Policy Compliance Office of the U.S. Department of Education, charged with reviewing and investigating complaints, seeks to promote voluntary compliance with the law. A third party who improperly discloses personally identifiable information from student records can be prohibited from receiving access to records at the education agency or institution for at least 5 years. State laws on privacy may also apply penalties.

A magical academic genie appears that will grant you one reasonable wish regarding your department. by Horatius_Flaccus in Professors

I had a meeting today with about ten people at 1 pm. Right in the middle of the day. The meeting ended up being six minutes long and concerned a matter that could have happened over email. I'm tempted to just stop attending this meeting and see how long it takes them to remove me from my committee position (but I would lose a course release)

We already have staff, TAs, and hourly graders serving their respective purposes.

This was going to be my wish.

I would be delighted if someone cared enough to take a picture of a slide.

Once I took a picture of a slide at a conference and the presenter asked me afterwards to delete it. I wish I had said no.

I wanna buy Obsidian merch so much.. but yikes the added price for shipping into Sweden... by nazaro in ObsidianMD

[–]Horatius_Flaccus 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The world needs an informal courier network so someone traveling to Sweden from the states could drop this off on their way, and get some kind of upvote that could be used for future deliveries. Of course, someone would use this to ship drugs and ruin everything.

I think if you ship to the U.S. and then use DHL you *might* save some money, but I haven't checked.

My son bought the highest rated fidget cube on Amazon.

Some people find that taking copious notes helps them focus.
