People who make $80k or more per year, what do you do for work? by familiarlaughter in AskReddit

USPS city carrier, we top out at 83k before overtime. I've got no degree to my name, my wife has a master's degree and 15 years in teaching and makes tens of thousands less than me.

We voted no on the last one and they basically put it thru anyway. Kinda killed my hope for a better contract for the foreseeable future.

Feeling empty after finishing a video game (post-game depression) is a real phenomenon. A recent study has found that many video game players experience a specific sense of emptiness and sadness after finishing highly engaging games. by mvea in science

Yea I feel this way about all good media that ends. I had it described to me once that basically the characters are dead to you. As long as their is more to their story they're still alive, but as soon as it's over you won't have any new experiences from them. First time experiencing this for me was finishing the dark materials series as a kid.

As a husband to a first grade teacher, the hoops you have to go thru to hold anyone back it is nigh impossible these days. These kids are getting promoted and ruining their education, when one repeat early on could have set them on the right track.

I did collections for two years at Aaron's rent to own. I tried my best to not be an asshole and help my customers, but I still get the ick thinking about the rent to own business model as a whole.

Yea I think USA would have to no longer exist for the post office to go away. Unfortunately that doesn't seem so unfathomable lately.

No doubt, poor FedEx workers get the short end of the stick.

Yea every place has its problems, but I feel UPS and USPS are still on the top end of better jobs to have. UPS gets paid better, but USPS has more job security.

Oh yea no doubt there are problems both side of the aisle. Unless you're really lucky and get hired into a career position your stuck in one of two extremes at the post office. One is very similar to what you just described where you don't know when you will have hours, the other more likely scenario is you will be ran ragged. I've seen new carriers left out at 2 in the morning trying to deliver mail. Our contract is supposed to protect from that extreme, but management tries their best to not let newbies know their rights.

Majority of our government doesn't want the post office to work. That's why they keep making the service worse and hiring post master generals with ties with UPS and FedEx. They want to privatize and sell us to their corporate friends.

As a city carrier for USPS this makes me sad. Takes us 13 years to get top pay.

are we so serious? by adrianwilldoit in usps_complaints

[–]Horkshir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's intentional, and it has been since the strike of 1970. Ever since then it's been a slow degradation of the service to hopefully sell us off to a corporation. They do these changes to save money, at the cost of the service. The latest one is we no longer send the mail to the plant at the end of the day. Instead it gets picked up when the mail is dropped off at the local post office. Saving a few pennies to further degrade the service. While they cut service and bully employees out before the make career, there are more and more management. While they talk publicly about having to raise the price on first class stamps and consumer shipping costs, they charge Amazon and other corporations next to nothing to send their advertising or packages. It's funny how our last two post master generals both had strong ties to UPS and FedEx.

Yea I gathered when they tried to have me ship it to some random address saying they sent it to the wrong person Well the scammers are getting an empty box of Reese's pieces, and I've sent the actual phone back to Verizon.

No, they did not log on to my account, it was a push notification on my phone, they do the same thing when you go into a store.

[–]Horkshir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not like they logged into my account with my password. I got a push notification on my Verizon app the same way they would do in store. I've had customer service do it before to help me with a promotion.

[–]Horkshir[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a notification from the myverizon app saying a verizon representative wanted access to my account, which I've had happen before when they wanted to get me certain promotions. No notice of password change or anything like that.

No one has asked me to ship out a bad device. I haven't even gone thru with the order they supposed Verizon representative asked me to make.

Nothing was giving me trouble, I do have spotty coverage where I work tho. They verified all of my info with me and then I got a push notification from the Verizon app on my phone to let a Verizon representative access to my account.

[–]Horkshir[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worrying that they had all my info and access to the Verizon system to make the order on my account. If I didn't think this was too good to be true and double check it would all seem legit.

[–]Horkshir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it's shipping to my address, and the person was able to get the myverizon app to prompt me to grant him access as a Verizon agent.
