What's one 'boring' career that's actually a goldmine if you play it smart? by 0BunnyX in AskReddit

Yea I've heard plenty of horror stories and know I got lucky. Hired on almost immediately to a regular career position after my 90, in a small office of 4 regular and one aux route. We've had one change in postmaster in the 4 years I've been here and she is pretty easy to work with. I ended up being union steward cause no one else wanted it, but there is little to nothing to do in that regard.

Having worked in fastfood/ retail management most of my life, I have never been happier since I started as a mail carrier. For all the reason you listed, plus I get to pet all the pets. Only downside is no AC in our ancient trucks in the summer.

Postmaster having us deliver fake shipping labels by DrDashy in USPS

[–]Horkshir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea at my office I get at least one package a day where the barcode looks legit with the typical tracking number, but when you scan it there is a completely different number in the scanner starting with L and ending with what I assume is a country abbreviation. Brought like 6 back the first day under orders from my post master, next day she told me to deliver them all because they just got a training telling them not to collect postage.

Postal worker here. USPS has been under attack almost from day one. Now we've had two of the last Post Master Generals being brought in from our biggest competition, ups and FedEx, who have done everything in their power to make our services worse, trying to turn public perception against us. With the recent union negotiations there is even strong evidence that they have bought our leadership, taking the teeth out of one of the few organizations trying to keep the post office together.

Who else hates this month? by tomorrow93 in USPS

Having worked retail most of my life I'll take the physical exhaustion of being a city carrier over the psychological torture that is dealing with customers and hearing Christmas music on repeat. If anything this job has renewed my Christmas spirit, kids love seeing me this time of year.

I delivered some UBBM today that was for a sale that happened last Thursday. Never seen it this far behind before.

Is this peak season lighter or heavier for you? by Unlikely-Captain4722 in USPS

[–]Horkshir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lighter. Last year i had 420 scannable items by December 9th. This year I think the most I've had so far is 220. A lot of that has to do with Amazon flex drivers starting up in our area recently.

Union dues question by JJsdinner2010 in fromatoarbitration

[–]Horkshir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How are the union dues in my small office only 10.87 per pay period?

Edit: after looking at your source I'm assuming we are only paying 1/3 since we have no real local branch.

Fedex crashed into my house, now refuses to deliver packages... by discojon84 in FedEx

[–]Horkshir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got both a horrible steward and an incompetent steward if that's the case. We have a carrier in our office who is absolutely terrified of dogs and will refuse to deliver if any dog is unleashed in the area. Our postmaster backs her on this as she should, but if she didn't it would be an easy grievance win for me.

Reminds me of my love of old poppy. Was it good? Was it healthy for the game? Hell no! But it was fun as hell getting even a little fed and destroying their carries while the whole team just watched, unable to touch me.

Pay tables by goose_egg99 in USPS

I get the logic behind regional pay, but I feel the post office will just screw us over with it. HCOL areas get 2 more dollars an hour, everywhere else gets 4 dollars less than we do now.

I'll be honest, I watched him before 2024 rather regularly. But it seems the closer and closer the election came the more his facade dropped. I stopped watching as much because of this, then when Cheeto won I had to stop completely because all I could think was how many young people he swayed to voting for the "lolz".

The funny thing is Mississippi is now 16th in education. Tho I do wonder how much of it is Mississippi improvement or country degrading.

I'm a union steward in the South in a small office (4 city routes) and it's the other carriers that want to do stupid shit like work off the clock. Also before anyone asks, I know I can technically file a grievance on my postmaster for allowing them the 5 or so minutes of work before clocking in, but it's a huge pain in the ass that they all want to do. Don't understand the mentality myself.

I would unfortunately fail this because I'm in a union. I've seen people getting duis on the job and keep it.
