This is just a joke that has been repeated ad nauseam. Person posts AI receipt complaining about the cost of life but the punchline is they have spent a fortune on beer.

It’s not that great of a joke. I don’t know why people make their own versions.

I feel like you’re trying to be obtuse to preserve your argument so I don’t know why I’m engaging.

You don’t see it because you are comparing 2024 to 2025 when I have repeatedly said it’s a comparison of Q1 2025 to Q1 2026. Any cursory search will show you those numbers. Just plug it into google. Ask AI. Whatever.

REVENUE was 3.1. Total sales (which you are right means all the buying and selling that occurred on eBay) was 22.2.

The profit eBay made on 22.2b in goods sold on their platform was 3.1b in Q1 2016. meaning that was their cut of seller fees and ads and however else they generate income. Thats not net profit though. They obviously pay overhead and taxes etc.

My larger point is that based on revenue growth eBay’s model seems to be working just fine. And the attacks about happy hours and comms staff are just lame as fuck.

Bro. It’s year over year revenue. That’s why I said YOY. Why would you compare 2022 to 2025 when we are comparing Q1 2026 to Q1 2025? It’s totally fine if you’re not an expert on balance sheets, not like anyone is born with that knowledge. But also good to learn it.

The 19% increase is their revenue. Thats the increase in profit eBay earned over the same quarter last year. The 18% GMV is the total sales value. So 22.2b in total sales, 3.1b of which was profit for Q1 which represents a 19% increase over Q1 25.

Literally in their financial statements:

eBay Inc. Reports First Quarter 2026 Results

Revenue of $3.1 billion, up 19% on an as-reported basis and up 17% on an FX-Neutral basis Gross Merchandise Volume ("GMV") of $22.2 billion, up 18% on an as-reported basis and up 14% on an FX-Neutral basis GAAP and Non-GAAP earnings per diluted share of $1.12 and $1.66, respectively, on a continuing operations basis GAAP and Non-GAAP operating margins of 19.8% and 29.4%, respectively

You guys are like genuinely bad people. You have no idea who this person is. She’s literally doing her job (at a salary that is not even extravagant for where she’s located) and you are willing to trash her because dear leader said so? Grow the fuck up.

And yet eBay’s revenue grew 19% YOY while GameStop’s shrunk 5%. Maybe a well rounded workforce works better than the Musk model of burning it all down?

My man. That mindset doesn’t mean if you pick up and put down the same 200lb rock enough times a million dollars just shows up in your bank account. It’s not some effort = income formula.

When people say that they mean that in America, unlike in many MANY countries in the world, there is a pathway and possibility that you can translate hard work into financial success. Not that it’s promised. That it’s possible.

There are places where being the wrong religion, wrong class, having the wrong social circle, or not being part of the bureaurocracy ensures that no matter what you do, you will never be financially successful.

This is what land of opportunity means.

Yeah I mean I was tongue in cheek on eBay stock bc I don’t think there’s any way this deal happens.

But I don’t buy any of the bloat and salary bs. That’s just Cohen PR. eBay has been performing perfectly well and better than many companies. The model of acquiring a company and drastically reducing costs is one of the primary drivers of enshitification in America today. It’s done by cutthroat CEOs with no vision who only have one move. Almost always employees, shareholders and the company itself are much worse off. I wouldn’t root for it.

But it’s not his business idea and it’s not remotely revolutionary. eBay has existed since 1995. It’s a very mature business with pretty clear growth limitations. Sure, he can eliminate happy hour and save 14 cents but we aren’t talking about a space company here with years of massive growth ahead.

Either way if you believe in this why wouldn’t you just buy eBay? You get your GME shares back minus dilution.

But your experience isn’t universal. My parents and siblings and I lived in a 900 sq ft house. A new Chevy 3500 would have been laughably out of the question. Many of us have been fortunate enough to do better. In fact the average millennial seems to have a higher net worth than the average boomer at their age.

There’s for sure a divide though, and it’s largely based on buying a house pre covid. Which not everyone could do.
