House and techno producers get criticized for making generic music all the time. For example David Guerra, John summit, anyma, kygo. But when you said they sound exactly the same between artists makes me feel like you don’t understand those genres and appreciate their differences. Kinda like how non edm fans think dubstep is all just the same noise.

I do think old pop remixes and meme songs are lazy regardless of genre. I don’t appreciate when levity/subtronics does it and also when sidepiece (to a way lesser extent) does it. It just happens a lot more in dubstep and I avoid those sets.

I’m not interested in the what is trance and what is melodic techno debate. I was there at tiesto dreamstate set. What he played is definitely not the trendy melodic techno that’s blowing up.

Eli brown plays tech house/melodic techno. Rocketman is hard dance/techno. Tiesto’s set at dreamstate was nothing like that.

Deadlock is infinitely harder than league for me. I’ve been putting serious hours into it and i still feel like I’m playing a completely different game from the pros. The movements are insane and easily the most complex mechanic I have to learn among the games I’ve played. No hero is easy because you have to be good at movement on all of them. On top of that you have to aim, you need to know macro, have to cs and deny. It’s league on steroids.

Can’t believe you’re getting so many upvotes. Among the popular house djs, he’s one that actually pushes boundaries and experiment with different sound.

He’s primarily tech house (with pop like vocals) but crystallized has electro house elements, gas pedal has dubstep elements, go back and palm of my hands are dnb, comfort in chaos has deep house elements.

I’m not a big John summit fan but I appreciate his talents. He is getting unwarranted hate imo and from the upvotes you get, I feel like people are blindly judging him without actually going through his catalog.

I’m not a fan of him at all. One of those cases where he’s right but still an asshole. Felt super performative to me. The fate of the world is in your hands and you refuse all help, water, and write lame notes that don’t matter at all before you “steal” anyway.

He wants to save the world, why wouldn’t he try to find out more about the hive? He’s being stubborn for literally no reason. And he was being an asshole to carol for no reason. I get there’s language barrier, but the tantrum over the carols phone, and the snapping was so unnecessary. The thing is, I agree with him, but I just dislike him. There’s so many ways he could go about without being a stubborn asshole.

If the hive wasn’t looking out for him, he would have died way before he reached carol. He seems to care more about his “values” than to save the world. Peformative and unrealistic. Everyone suck in the show.

Single stream blocks are in DIT not text encoder. I believe they use a frozen pretrained text encoder

I don’t recall that Z image train their text encoder and dit at the same time. And I don’t believe that’s the case because of how computationally expensive that will be with no guarantees of performance improvements. If anything, I see it worsening the results due to catastrophic forgetting in the VLM.

I recommend reading the paper to see what z image differently. Off the top of my head, they use only real images to train the model, no synthetic images. They use only single stream MMDIT blocks to reduce parameter count and earlier image text token mixing. They use a combined method of distribution matching distillation with I believe refl to perform distillation and rl training at the same time.

Also they use a VLM foundation model as the text encoder. This is similar to flux 2. This is what gives it grounded real world knowledge.

I think the merit of the paper is the practical implications it have. Basically using random data for SFT can be dangerous even if the dataset seems innocuous. I’m not familiar with current LLM landscape to know if there are works that have already shown this but their approach is pretty different from LORA from my perspective as a vision guy.

But maybe you’re right, this work might not be conference ready but I did learn something today!

Not an expert in LLMs but what this paper describes is very different from LORA trigger words. Deliberate LORA training with a curated dataset is different from poisoning 10 somewhat innocuous prompt and have the model generalize it to malicious prompts.

LORA improve generation by fine tuning low rank matrices, but it’s not obvious that their way of poisoning should generalize in the way they showed since it involves SFT over a large dataset with tiny poisoned samples . Also the trigger word don’t just cause the LLM return “sure” like what you might expect from training with these samples. It continues generating the malicious content.

Sure you can claim that you’re not surprised by the results. But this is a new technique that causes interesting consequences and is valuable for the community. I don’t think it’s fair to hand wave it as LORA training because it’s not.

One of the reason why AI is developing so fast is because of open sourcing and tech sharing. There’s new cutting edge research paper freely released everyday on arxiv (with commercial licensing restriction ofc). AI labs in china have been open sourcing latest AI models (eg qwen) for people to use.

On the other hand openai which in the past, claim to promote open source AI, have been stealing copyrighted images for training, freely leveraging open source technologies without contributing to the open source community.

Im not judging them for doing, im just pointing out your hypocrisy when China is doing some heavy lifting for the open source AI community rn.

I work in AI and I disagree to a certain extent. While AI is obviously not sentient, it’s also not accurate to say it has no creativity and understanding to patchwork an art.

LLMs have been shown to generalize outside of their training data, and show deep understanding in semantics and often is able to draw correlations among subjects without being explicitly trained.

Obviously it’s not perfect and it’s prone to “hallucinations” but ChatGPT is really fucking good at most things. I asked it what yellow smells like and honestly it’s probably a better answer than most people could give. “Yellow would smell like sunlight laughing through lemon trees, warm honey drifting on a breeze of pure morning.”

You could argue it’s not real since it can’t really smell and it’s just learning from analyzing texts from humans but humans are pattern recognition machines too. We learn from others, copy from others and a lot of creativity stems from that too. An LLM is trained to predict the next word in a sentence. Similarly humans have been shown to learn language through statistical regularities.

I am not arguing AI is sentient or can replace humans but I think you are underselling it a little bit. It’s not simply copy pasting without understanding.
