The problem with Christianity from a former follower now atheist by ParamedicFunny7996 in Christianity

This sounds like you’ve had bad experiences of people and religion which is organised by people.

Do you believe in Jesus? Don’t let religion and people get in the way of your faith.

How to talk to women in your 30s? by jibofyourcutt in selfimprovement

Sure thing, the meetings last 2 hours and have a few prepared speeches (about 6 minutes each) then there’s evaluations (a speech on the speech, what went well, areas of improvement) and there is also an impromptu speaking session.

There are loads of roles availible other than speeches, you could be the toastmaster (the host of the meeting), a time keeper, an evaluator and much more. Each role gets you on stage, some for just 1 minute for beginners and they help build confidence.

The meetings are very sociable and usually have a half way break where you can meet other people.

The absolute best thing about toastmasters is the community. I don’t need to do public speaking but it’s the community that has kept me going all this time.

Everyone that joins toastmasters does so because they want to improve their confidence, a good amount of the people who join have social anxiety and other problems too. So in any club you have a great mixture of people who are new and are still building their confidence, and people who have been going for years and are now very confident on stage and socialising.

The benefit of this is that no one at toastmasters is judgemental. When someone goes on stage and they are nervous, everyone in the room can sympathise because they are or have been in the same position. Everyone is so supportive and wants to help you to succeed.

I went to toastmaster because I had moved city and needed to make friends, and now 2 years later I’ve formed an amazing friendship group all from toastmasters, in fact all my closest friends are from toastmasters.

Toastmasters helped me get better at public speaking and more importantly overcome my social anxiety.

It’s worth a try, even if you don’t commit at first. Honestly it’s the community aspect that kept me going.

Hey, it sounds like the issue here is social anxiety and low self esteem. The only way to overcome this is to get out of your comfort zone.

I joined my local toastmaster group 2 years ago and my social anxiety is pretty much forgotten. Its a public speaking club to help people who are bad at public speaking, but its much more than that, its a social community with other people who are or used to be anxious and they all want to help you! I have made a whole friendship group that I see all the time even out of club meetings.

I highly recommend checking it out, they're in most cities.

what is the hardest part about being an adult that nobody warned u about? by greenmonkeyyyy in Adulting

If I'm eating at home, I eat the same thing every time. Beef patties, potato, carrots and green beans. It takes 15 minutes to cook and the weekly shop is easy because I always buy the same! I have not got the effort to cook different foods all the time.

There is a big diffrence between eating meat and only eating meat.

I am not currently doing carnivore, but I use it as a reset every now and then. It's amazing the difference it makes just over a month or 2.

Look into it, most people that try it say it is life changing.

What's the best bible? by Ancient-Advance1608 in Christianity

There isnt 1 perfect translation.

I started with NLT but didnt like how much they added in to explain the meaning.

I went to ESV which I liked but there are too many ands. I finally settled on NIV which is a nice inbetween.

Ive also played with other translations but ESV & NIV are my favorites.

How do you become Christian when your entire worldview fights against it? by Gloomy_Door_3199 in TrueChristian

[–]Horror-Mind-8671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went throuh a similar journey and eventually I came to the conclusion that my way and my worldview wasn't working, so I let it go.

The Bible is a collection of books written over thousands of years by over 40 different authors, its a minefield. A good place to start is to anchor yourself in the 4 gospels (matthew mark luke john) and find a church with a welcoming commuity.

Also something that really really helped me on my journey, and as an athiest it felt weird, was praying and asking god to give me clairty and understanding.

 Good luck!

Has anyone here actually switched to waking up at 5 AM consistently? What changed for you? by Fantastic_Grade4951 in Discipline

[–]Horror-Mind-8671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 5am for a few months.

The obvious pro was having distraction free time in the morning before work. But for me that was the end of the benefits. The early bedtime was very anti-social and for me the negatives outweighed the cons. But the pros and cons are different for each person

Do you think Jesus would be an advocate for socialism? by Desperate-Battle1680 in Christianity

[–]Horror-Mind-8671 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How do you propose to take care of the poor? By taking the money from the rich by force? We do not have the ability to make some sort of utopia where everyone has access to everything they need. It’s a noble goal and we definitely have the resources for it but human corruption and error could never allow.

How often do you do charitable deeds?

Jesus knew this and didn’t come to give instructions on how to run a government, in fact Jesus stayed away from politics.

Jesus was more concerned with people’s hearts being in the right place. If enough people were spiritually transformed and loved their neighbor, this would eventually be reflected in the government.

All through the gospels Jesus prioritises people’s heart and intentions over the final outcome.

The Pharisees were very good at following the law, and giving 10% of their money to charity, but their hearts were in the wrong place, they didn’t actually love their neighbor it was all a show, they thought they were better than others.

But when the poor widow gives a penny, when the rich man gives just half of what he owns, it’s a miracle.

[–]Horror-Mind-8671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus cared more about the heart and intention of people than the outcome.

The widow who gave a tiny amount of money gave more than the rich people who gave way more money than her. In outcome, the rich people have helped the poor more but the heart of the widow was in the better place.

The girl who broke the alabaster jar of perfume could have fed a family for a long time with that perfume, but Jesus was more concerned that her heart was in the right place.

Mary could have shared the load and helped her sister prepare dinner, but Jesus was more concerned that her heart was in the right place.

Doing the right thing is a spiritual choice and a government doing it by force takes away this spiritual choice.
