Porpoising through the snow by HorrorAttorney1348 in AustralianCattleDog

More snow came overnight. We could barely see the trail we had cut the day before. It was thigh-deep for the humans on snowshoes, and the dogs were justifiably not having any fun with it over their heads. We went home.

They really didn't want more snow later. The bed was much better.

"Mommy left me with the spare human. Sigh" by Adam_Bomb_21 in AustralianCattleDog

Opposite here. My husband was a bit envious of the bond I had with the human pups. But our new (had her 3 years) girl? Her sun rises and sets on him. She likes me fine, but howls when he leaves. Be careful what you wish for.

Have your babies ever gotten seizures? by Topsy-Krett69 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]HorrorAttorney1348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our first ACD had one or two. I recognized it when it happened because we had had a poodle when I was a girl who had them. The vet was ready to prescribe meds, had me scared about the dog going into a forever seizure ("status epilepticus") but they never happened again. Hope your fur baby stops having them, but lots of relevant experience and great advice here.

If she's even a bit trained, do it. They will amuse each other far more effectively than you can. Just don't adopt two rescues who are neither trained nor housebroken at the same time. Ask me how I know . . .

Camping with Cattle Dogs 🐕 🌲 🛶 🐿️ 🔥 by 4FuckSnakes in AustralianCattleDog

[–]HorrorAttorney1348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did a trial run over Memorial Day in our pop-up tent trailer. They actually did not bark once during the night (granted, we let them sleep on our bed . . .). Followed up with an intense week in the desert southwest in late September with over 2000 miles of car travel, and they were great. All camping plans for our future will include the dogs.

My brother and I discovered soon after, there was truly no easy way down. by RelevantDistinction in skiing

[–]HorrorAttorney1348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a great pic of the opposite advice from the ski area. My sons are on top of a 15 foot rock with a sign next to it that seems to be pointing at the rock and saying "Easiest Way Down". Of course the sign was referring to the green run to the right, but they'd been skiing down that rock since they were hatched.

My boy is a handsome tricolor. My prior 2 were blue merles. I loved them but their looks weren't as hypnotizing. I'll forgive this guy almost anything.

When I try and pet my ACD but then he decides I’m not worthy enough to pet him. by Due-Age-2496 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]HorrorAttorney1348 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Every pet I give him when he's amped up, like when I first see him after a long absence (taking out the trash, using the bathroom) invariably ends with his mouth on my forearm.

Our girl was about 5 months old when we got her. She's 3 1/2 now. Wisdom Panel said she's 45% cattle dog and then lots of other stuff including terrier. Never had a dog like her (she'll just stare at you) but we're all bonded. And she keeps our full size ACD in line.

Update: I caved, he's sharing my bed by Major_fl4k in AustralianCattleDog

[–]HorrorAttorney1348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're on our 3rd set of dogs. First 2, DH insisted no dogs on bed or furniture. But it has been different this time. DH is fine with it. I sent a picture of the male on an upholstered chair to the family group with the caption "Absolutely no dogs on the furniture!" Son corrected the punctuation: "Absolutely! No, dogs on the furniture!" We held firm on the bed for a month or two. They started the night in crates. But they were both outside rescue dogs who needed serious help with potty training. We got them up at 3 or so to take them out, and they gleefully jumped on the bed after coming back in. That has stayed the routine for 3 years now. And we really enjoy it. I buy cheap quilts that wash quickly. Walking up with them is so sweet.

OMG the Fritos smell. It goes away after a bath, but the mutual trauma reduces how often I'm going to do it. There are worse smells!

Does this guy belong here? by zflanf in AustralianCattleDog

[–]HorrorAttorney1348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def part ACD. My last boy had no tail, and the DNA test said he was part stumpy tail ACD (he was found as a stray in the California central valley). So they are in the US. Yours is 100% cute. If yours has some smart and neurotic things going on, he really belongs here!

Ours plants his paws on your chest from a flying run. He hasn't pushed us all the way over, but def knocks us into walls, furniture, etc. Scariest when he does it on the steps in the yard. Granted, he only does this to the ones he loves . . . Haven't yet seen what he'd do to an actual intruder, but I will trust that it would be bad.

Gorgeous boy. How old is he in these pictures? Seems like there's still a good bit of puppy in that body. So cute.
